Japanese, Canadian sailors hold joint commemorative ceremony

LA CPL ANNABELLE MARCOUX

As part of a recent visit to Halifax by Japan Training Squadron ships JS Kashima and JS Yamagiri, members of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force joined with Royal Canadian Navy counterparts for a wreath-laying ceremony at the Sailors’ Memorial in Point Pleasant Park in Halifax on August 10. The commemorative ceremony was meant to honour the longstanding friendship and maritime cooperation shared by Canada and Japan.

The two countries also established a new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership earlier this year, as they head toward the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2028. The Partnership Roadmap includes plans for further military cooperation and increased participation in bilateral/multilateral exercises and operations.
