Admiralty House celebrates 200th anniversary

MARGARET CONWAY, LES AFFAIRES PUBLIQUES DE LA BFC HALIFAX

The Naval Museum of Halifax hosted a Garden Party on July 28 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Admiralty House. Guests toured the museum, indulged in tea and desserts and were treated to a fun-filled afternoon of English Country and Scottish dance lessons. Admiralty House was originally constructed as the official residence of Commander in Chief, North American Station. Throughout the years, it has been used as a summer residence, a host location for grand balls, a hospital, a wardroom and even briefly as a morgue for military and naval dead after the Halifax Explosion. Today, Admiralty House is home to the Naval Museum of Halifax. The museum, located at 2729 Gottingen Street, is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free. The museum can be accessed by vehicle or on foot via the Stadacona main gate (Almon Street/Gottingen Street intersection). Valid government-issued photo ID is required.
