Alors qu'il tentait de r\u00e9sumer son exp\u00e9rience en tant que commandant, d'abord du NCSM Montr\u00e9al, puis du NCSM Charlottetown, le Capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Christopher Devita a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'il \u00e9tait plus logique de se concentrer sur les r\u00e9alisations de son \u00e9quipage.<\/p>\n

Cela s'explique \u00e0 la fois par la nature confidentielle d'une grande partie des exploits du navire dans le cadre de la flotte de l'OTAN en 2022 et par la grande quantit\u00e9 de travail qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 confi\u00e9e \u00e0 ses marins.<\/span><\/p>\n

Depuis les premiers jours des navigations d'endurance et des exercices qui n\u00e9cessitaient de r\u00e9parer l'\u00e9quipement, de former les marins et de r\u00e9soudre les d\u00e9ficiences, jusqu'aux difficult\u00e9s entourant la variante Omicron COVID-19, en passant par les exigences de mission en constante \u00e9volution, les attentes \u00e9taient \u00e9lev\u00e9es, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. Lorsque l'\u00e9quipage du navire est arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 Rota, en Espagne, en f\u00e9vrier 2022, pour commencer un d\u00e9ploiement dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration R\u00e9assurance, il l'a fait avec une immense fiert\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Je n'ai jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi fier d'un \u00e9quipage de navire et de l'esprit de combat dont a fait preuve l'\u00e9quipe \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Capf Devita lors d'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement \u00e0 bord du NCSM Charlottetown le 6 f\u00e9vrier.\n\n\u00ab Le d\u00e9ploiement a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 de nombreux d\u00e9fis. Il comprenait une situation COVID en \u00e9volution puis en diminution, la guerre en Ukraine, et un certain nombre de rencontres rapproch\u00e9es avec les forces russes, le tout se d\u00e9roulant loin de chez nous. Pourtant, l'\u00e9quipage a r\u00e9ussi, et bien r\u00e9ussi.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s son retour \u00e0 Halifax, l'\u00e9quipage a d\u00fb faire face \u00e0 la t\u00e2che suppl\u00e9mentaire d'effectuer un \u00e9change complet d'\u00e9quipage entre le NCSM Montr\u00e9al et le Charlottetown en septembre de l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re. Certains membres de l'\u00e9quipage ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mut\u00e9s et de nouveaux membres ont pris leur place, mais la nouvelle \u00e9quipe du Charlottetown est demeur\u00e9e une famille unie qui a travaill\u00e9 sans rel\u00e2che pour commencer \u00e0 mettre un deuxi\u00e8me navire en \u00e9tat de combat, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Capf Devita.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Le Charlottetown est maintenant capable de naviguer. Il progresse dans les nouvelles missions qui lui sont confi\u00e9es et devient plus fort chaque jour. \u00bb<\/p>\n

En tant qu'officier pr\u00e9sidant la passation de commandement, le Cmdre Trevor MacLean, commandant de la Flotte canadienne de l'Atlantique, a d\u00e9crit l'occasion comme \u00e9tant sp\u00e9ciale en raison de la quantit\u00e9 extraordinaire de travail que le Cdr Devita et son \u00e9quipe ont d\u00fb accomplir depuis l'\u00e9t\u00e9 2021.\n\n\u00ab L'\u00e9quipage a accompli tout ce que nous lui avons demand\u00e9 - la mission, l'\u00e9change d'\u00e9quipage et la remise en mouvement de Charlottetown. C'est un travail s\u00e9rieux, et un t\u00e9moignage du leadership du Cdr Devita \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Le Cmdre MacLean a ajout\u00e9 que le programme du nouveau commandant, le Capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Nicholas Buxton, comportera des d\u00e9fis similaires, car l'\u00e9quipage du navire s'efforce d'amener le Charlottetown \u00e0 un \u00e9tat de pr\u00e9paration complet en vue des exercices \u00e0 venir et d'un s\u00e9jour pr\u00e9vu comme navire amiral du 2e Groupe maritime permanent de l'OTAN en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e en 2024.<\/p>\n

Le Capf Buxton a occup\u00e9 le poste de commandant en second du NCSM Halifax en 2018 et 2019 et, plus r\u00e9cemment, celui de commandant du Centre de d\u00e9veloppement de l'instruction navale (Atlantique).<\/p>\n

Alors qu'il entrait dans son nouveau r\u00f4le et s'adressait pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 son nouvel \u00e9quipage, ainsi qu'\u00e0 un certain nombre de membres de sa famille pr\u00e9sents, le Capf Buxton s'est dit \u00ab tr\u00e8s humble \u00bb de se voir confier la responsabilit\u00e9 de commander une fr\u00e9gate de classe Halifax pour les deux prochaines ann\u00e9es.<\/span><\/p>\n
