La Marine royale canadienne a une fois de plus envoy\u00e9 une fr\u00e9gate de classe Halifax rejoindre les alli\u00e9s de l'OTAN en Europe dans le cadre de la composante maritime de l'op\u00e9ration R\u00e9assurance, \u00e0 un moment o\u00f9 la mission est plus importante que jamais.<\/span>

\n<\/span>S'exprimant \u00e0 Halifax juste apr\u00e8s que le NCSM <\/span>Fredericton <\/span><\/i>a quitt\u00e9 la jet\u00e9e le 22 janvier, le contre-amiral Brian Santarpia, commandant des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique et de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique, a fait remarquer que l'invasion russe en cours en Ukraine, qui a commenc\u00e9 d\u00e9but 2022, a modifi\u00e9 la dynamique de l'Op R\u00e9assurance.\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Chaque navire qui part maintenant doit \u00eatre plus pr\u00eat qu'avant cette invasion, car la menace est plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e \u00bb, a-t-il dit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Fredericton<\/span><\/i> rejoindra le 2e Groupe maritime permanent de l'OTAN aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de ses homologues am\u00e9ricains, italiens et fran\u00e7ais et op\u00e9rera principalement en mer M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e au cours des six prochains mois.\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ils surveilleront l'activit\u00e9 russe au quotidien et feront \u00e9galement des exercices pour s'assurer que nous sommes interop\u00e9rables avec nos alli\u00e9s et que nous sommes pr\u00eats \u00e0 faire face \u00e0 toute crise ou urgence \u00bb, ajoute le Cam Santarpia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Fredericton<\/span><\/i> a quitt\u00e9 Halifax accompagn\u00e9 du NCSM <\/span>Montr\u00e9al<\/span><\/i>, qui se pr\u00e9pare actuellement \u00e0 un d\u00e9ploiement au printemps, ainsi que du MV Asterix. Les trois navires traverseront ensemble l'Atlantique avant que le <\/span>Montr\u00e9al<\/span><\/i> et l'Ast\u00e9rix ne rentrent chez eux, ainsi qu'une petite \u00e9quipe de personnel de la flotte qui accompagne le <\/span>Fredericton <\/span><\/i>pour la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape du voyage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pour les 256 marins qui composent l'\u00e9quipage du navire de <\/span>Fredericton\u2019s <\/span><\/i>, le d\u00e9part marque un moment excitant - le d\u00e9but d'une mission difficile au nom du Canada - mais s'accompagne aussi de la difficult\u00e9 de laisser derri\u00e8re eux les membres de leur famille.<\/span>

\u00ab Ils sont fiers du travail qu'ils vont faire, mais il ne fait aucun doute que les membres de leur famille vont leur manquer, c'est difficile de s'absenter pendant six mois \u00bb, explique le Cam Santarpia. Il a ajout\u00e9 qu'il y aura du travail suppl\u00e9mentaire pour s'assurer que le plus grand nombre possible de membres d'\u00e9quipage obtiennent des pauses \u00e0 mi-d\u00e9ploiement pour rentrer chez eux ou amener des membres de leur famille en Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

L'Op R\u00e9assurance a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en 2014 en r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 l'annexion de la Crim\u00e9e par la Russie. Comme son nom l'indique, les d\u00e9ploiements ont pour but de rassurer l'OTAN sur le fait que le Canada sera l\u00e0 pour soutenir ses partenaires internationaux en cas de besoin. La mission comprend \u00e9galement des composantes terrestres et a\u00e9riennes, le personnel des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes \u00e9tant d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 en Lettonie, en Pologne et en Roumanie.<\/span><\/p>\n
