La flotte de navires de patrouille extrac\u00f4tiers et de l\u2019Arctique (NPEA) de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC) continue de prendre forme. Le Navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) <\/span>Margaret Brooke<\/span><\/i> a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement mis en service le 28 octobre au cours d\u2019une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie tenue \u00e0 l\u2019arsenal maritime d\u2019Halifax.\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Le NCSM<\/span> Margaret Brooke <\/span><\/i>, premier navire de guerre canadien \u00e0 porter le nom d\u2019une femme, est le deuxi\u00e8me NPEA de la MRC. En ao\u00fbt, le navire a effectu\u00e9 son premier d\u00e9ploiement dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration<\/span>Nanook<\/span><\/i> dans le Nord canadien.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c0 son retour de l\u2019op\u00e9ration<\/span>Nanook<\/span><\/i>, le navire a pr\u00eat\u00e9 son concours aux communaut\u00e9s de la c\u00f4te sud de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador ravag\u00e9es par l\u2019ouragan Fiona.\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u2009C\u2019est ce travail, qui montre la rapidit\u00e9 avec laquelle un navire de la Marine peut passer d\u2019une mission, soit la souverainet\u00e9 dans l\u2019Arctique, \u00e0 une autre, soit le secours \u00e0 la population canadienne, qui met en \u00e9vidence toute la valeur d\u2019un navire comme celui-ci\u2009\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le vice\u2011amiral Angus Topshee, commandant de la MRC, dans son discours, soulignant la capacit\u00e9 du navire \u00e0 passer directement des op\u00e9rations dans les eaux arctiques au soutien des communaut\u00e9s du Canada atlantique. Il a ajout\u00e9 que l\u2019agilit\u00e9 des NPEA en tant que plateforme permettra d\u2019assurer la protection et la sauvegarde des int\u00e9r\u00eats du Canada, au pays et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u2009Leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 briser la glace et \u00e0 mener des op\u00e9rations dans les r\u00e9gions septentrionales lointaines sans soutien est ce qui manquait \u00e0 la Marine depuis les ann\u00e9es 1950.\u2009\u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le NCSM <\/span>Margaret Brooke<\/span><\/i> a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 en novembre 2019, livr\u00e9 \u00e0 la Marine le 15 juillet 2021 et officiellement nomm\u00e9 le 29 mai 2021, lors d\u2019une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d\u2019attribution d\u2019un nom tenue en m\u00eame temps que celle du NCSM<\/span>Max Bernays<\/span><\/i>, le troisi\u00e8me des six NPEA construits pour la MRC aux termes de la Strat\u00e9gie nationale de construction navale.\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Le NCSM <\/span>Margaret Brooke<\/span><\/i>porte le nom de la capitaine de corvette (capc) Margaret Brooke, infirmi\u00e8re militaire de la MRC pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. La Capc Margaret Brooke (alors sous\u2011lieutenante [M]) a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9e membre (section militaire) de l\u2019Ordre de l\u2019Empire britannique pour la bravoure dont elle a fait preuve en tentant de sauver sa coll\u00e8gue, l\u2019infirmi\u00e8re militaire Agnes Wilkie, et d\u2019autres passagers, apr\u00e8s que le traversier SS Caribou avait \u00e9t\u00e9 torpill\u00e9 et coul\u00e9 dans le d\u00e9troit de Cabot par un sous-marin allemand le 14 octobre 1942.\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Ayant pris sa retraite de la Marine en 1962, la Capc Brooke a poursuivi une deuxi\u00e8me carri\u00e8re en pal\u00e9ontologie, apr\u00e8s avoir obtenu son doctorat de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Saskatchewan. Elle a appris que le NPEA porterait son nom le jour de son 100e anniversaire, le 10 avril 2015. Elle est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9e l\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante, le 9 janvier 2016.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u2009Le chemin qui nous a men\u00e9s jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de mise en service a \u00e9t\u00e9 long\u2009\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Allyson Brooke, jeune ni\u00e8ce de Margaret Brooke et co-marraine du navire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mme Brooke, qui a visit\u00e9 le NCSM <\/span>Margaret Brooke<\/span><\/i>au printemps, a fait l\u2019\u00e9loge du professionnalisme et des comp\u00e9tences de l\u2019\u00e9quipage, se disant impressionn\u00e9e par leur d\u00e9vouement et leur volont\u00e9 de s\u2019acquitter de leurs t\u00e2ches \u00ab\u2009avec la plus grande rigueur\u2009\u00bb, tout comme sa tante l\u2019avait fait au petit matin le 14 octobre 1942.\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u2009Vous avez laiss\u00e9 une marque durable sur moi. Vos proches, vos amis et votre commandant doivent \u00eatre tr\u00e8s fiers de vous \u00bb, a\u2011t\u2011elle ajout\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, il y a eu la remise symbolique des \u00ab\u2009cl\u00e9s du navire\u2009\u00bb au commandant, la capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Nicole Robichaud, ainsi que la lev\u00e9e de la flamme de mise en service du navire, le hissage du pavillon du navire et du pavillon de beaupr\u00e9, et trois hourras des membres de l\u2019\u00e9quipage du navire et des invit\u00e9s pr\u00e9sents, conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 une tradition de longue date de la Marine.<\/span><\/p>\n

La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie a commenc\u00e9 par une b\u00e9n\u00e9diction donn\u00e9e par la capitaine de vaisseau honoraire, l\u2019a\u00een\u00e9e Debbie Eisan, nomm\u00e9e capitaine de vaisseau honoraire du NCSM <\/span>Margaret Brooke<\/span><\/i> en juin 2021, suivie du chant d\u2019honneur mi\u2019kmaq interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Raymond Sewell.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le NCSM <\/span>Margaret Brooke<\/span><\/i> doit quitter Halifax au d\u00e9but de 2023 pour participer \u00e0 l\u2019op\u00e9ration Caribbe, o\u00f9 l\u2019\u00e9quipage du navire travaillera avec la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re des \u00c9tats-Unis pour lutter contre la contrebande de stup\u00e9fiants et d\u2019autres marchandises illicites dans la mer des Cara\u00efbes et dans l\u2019Est de l\u2019oc\u00e9an Pacifique.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
