L\u2019\u00e9quipage de l\u2019URN Asterix organise la marche Walk for Autism \u00e0 Norfolk<\/b><\/h3>\n

La vie dans la Marine n\u2019est pas de tout repos. Personne ne peut le nier. Mais si je suis dans la Marine alors que deux de mes trois enfants sont autistes, cela veut dire que je fais les choses diff\u00e9remment. Autrement dit, lorsque nous sommes \u00e0 quai \u00e0 Halifax, je passe la majeure partie de mon temps avec mes enfants ador\u00e9s, et lorsque je suis en mer, c\u2019est mon \u00e9pouse, ma vraie championne, qui fait tout ce qu\u2019il faut pour s\u2019occuper de la maison, ce qui, normalement, pourrait me demander beaucoup d\u2019efforts. Mais je suis pr\u00eat \u00e0 parier que je ne suis pas le seul dans cette situation. En fait, je peux le garantir.<\/span><\/p>\n

Je m\u2019appelle Chris Richard. Je suis membre de la Marine royale canadienne et p\u00e8re d\u2019enfants autistes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Depuis que mes deux gar\u00e7ons ont re\u00e7u leur diagnostic, j\u2019ai fait de mon mieux pour sensibiliser les gens \u00e0 la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 des personnes qui ont un trouble du spectre de l\u2019autisme. Je me suis personnellement engag\u00e9 \u00e0 faire conna\u00eetre des organismes, comme Autism Nova Scotia, qui ont tant \u00e0 offrir aux membres de la population atteints de ce trouble dans la province de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, mais aussi \u00e0 recueillir des fonds partout o\u00f9 je le peux, et de toutes les fa\u00e7ons possibles. L\u2019une des plus importantes collectes de fonds organis\u00e9es par Autism Nova Scotia est la marche annuelle Walk Your Way for Autism.<\/span><\/p>\n

C\u2019est ma quatri\u00e8me participation \u00e0 la marche Walk Your Way for Autism. Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 cette ann\u00e9e, j\u2019ai recueilli 7\u2009600 $ et, avec mes \u00e9quipes, j\u2019ai march\u00e9 au Canada et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger. Nous avons organis\u00e9 des marches \u00e0 Odessa, en Ukraine, \u00e0 Southampton, en Angleterre (sur le pont d\u2019envol, en raison de la r\u00e9glementation relative \u00e0 la COVID-19), et ici m\u00eame, \u00e0 Halifax.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cette ann\u00e9e, les membres de notre \u00e9quipe et leur famille se sont r\u00e9unis une fois de plus et, ensemble, nous avons r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 recueillir 2\u2009000 $ de plus. \u00c0 Halifax, la marche devait avoir lieu le 25 septembre pour la premi\u00e8re fois depuis que la COVID-19 s\u2019est abattue sur le monde, mais malheureusement, l\u2019ouragan Fiona arrivant, les organisateurs d\u2019Autism Nova Scotia ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d\u2019annuler la marche, pour assurer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de tous, et de maintenir la version virtuelle de la marche cette ann\u00e9e. Comme l\u2019URN Asterix \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 en mer et que nous devions quand m\u00eame organiser notre marche, nous avons d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de profiter d\u2019une de nos escales \u00e0 Norfolk, en Virginie, pour sensibiliser les gens \u00e0 notre cause.<\/span><\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00e9quipage de l\u2019URN Asterix s\u2019est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 devant le Nauticus Museum \u00e0 9 h 30, a march\u00e9 le long du Waterside District jusqu\u2019au centre-ville en passant par le MacArthur Memorial, et s\u2019est dirig\u00e9 vers le USS Wisconsin et la statue du Lone Sailor \u00e0 Wisconsin Square. Le temps \u00e9tait parfait, comme si M\u00e8re Nature voulait nous donner le meilleur jour pour cela, et c\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019une nouvelle \u00e9dition de la marche Walk for Autism est entr\u00e9e dans les annales.<\/span><\/p>\n

I would like to give a special mention to our ship\u2019s civilian master, Captain Tim Allard, who took the time away from his schedule to walk with us, and to our Commanding Officer, LCdr Kyle Hooper, and all those who weren\u2019t able to join us downtown but still participated through donations or walking on the ship. Every little bit helps more than you can know.<\/span><\/p>\n
