Un changement important ouvrant la voie \u00e0 une exp\u00e9rience plus inclusive pour les donateurs<\/b><\/h3>\n

Le 24 octobre 2022, la BFC Halifax a organis\u00e9 une autre collecte de sang fructueuse de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne du sang sur la base, au hangar d\u2019exercice de l\u2019\u00c9cole navale (Atlantique), qui a attir\u00e9 67 donneurs de sang en tout. Cette fois-ci, cependant, un important changement est survenu. En effet, il s\u2019agissait de la premi\u00e8re collecte de sang, sur la base, depuis que Sant\u00e9 Canada et la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne du sang ont officiellement<\/span>modifi\u00e9 les crit\u00e8res d\u2019admissibilit\u00e9<\/span><\/a> \u00e0 titre de donneur, qui emp\u00eachaient par le pass\u00e9 de nombreux homosexuels, bisexuels et les hommes ayant des rapports sexuels avec d\u2019autres hommes de donner du sang. \n<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ce <\/span>changement<\/span><\/a> s\u2019appuie sur des donn\u00e9es scientifiques recueillies au cours de derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es et repr\u00e9sente une \u00e9tape importante en mati\u00e8re de droits de la personne, en particulier pour les personnes, les communaut\u00e9s 2SLGBTQI+ et les alli\u00e9s, car il favorise une s\u00e9lection non sexiste fond\u00e9e sur le comportement pour tous les donneurs, cr\u00e9ant ainsi un syst\u00e8me de don de sang plus accessible et plus \u00e9quitable \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle nationale. \n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le commandant et gestionnaire de la clinique du Centre des services de sant\u00e9 des Forces canadiennes (Atlantique), le lieutenant-colonel (Lcol) Justin Keddy, \u00e9tait sur place \u00e0 la BFC Halifax le 24 octobre pour faire son premier don de sang, libre de le faire compte tenu de ce r\u00e9cent changement dans l\u2019admissibilit\u00e9 des donneurs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Pour moi, il s\u2019agit d\u2019un changement majeur et important \u00bb, explique-t-il. \u00ab En tant qu\u2019homme gai, en tant que personne travaillant dans les services de sant\u00e9, c\u2019est un peu comme cette grande derni\u00e8re r\u00e9glementation gouvernementale qui nous permet enfin de participer \u00e0 ce processus (...) C'est un virage majeur et un grand pas vers la d\u00e9stigmatisation de notre communaut\u00e9. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Tout au long de ses 17 ann\u00e9es de carri\u00e8re dans les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC), le Lcol Keddy a vu plusieurs occasions de donner du sang perdues en raison des restrictions li\u00e9es aux crit\u00e8res d\u2019admissibilit\u00e9 des donneurs. Ce fut le cas notamment en 2018 lors d\u2019un d\u00e9ploiement dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration IMPACT en Iraq dans une installation de traitement m\u00e9dical. Travailler dans un environnement semi-aust\u00e8re avec une capacit\u00e9 limit\u00e9e en sang total signifiait que l\u2019\u00e9quipe m\u00e9dicale s\u2019appuyait fortement sur un \u00ab syst\u00e8me de banque de donneurs ambulants \u00bb qui faisait largement appel aux membres du personnel, et particuli\u00e8rement lors d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nements impliquant de nombreuses victimes. Malgr\u00e9 le fait qu\u2019il \u00e9tait un candidat de choix en raison de son statut de donneur universel et de ses activit\u00e9s quotidiennes (en tant qu\u2019administrateur, il ne traitait pas les patients et avait donc plus de latitude pour donner du sang), le Lcol Keddy s\u2019est vu interdire de contribuer aux collectes de sang qui allaient permettre de maintenir et de sauver des vies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab C\u2019\u00e9tait tr\u00e8s stigmatisant. C\u2019\u00e9tait vraiment malheureux parce que je voulais aider, \u00bb d\u00e9crit-il. \u00ab Je travaille dans les soins de sant\u00e9 et dans l\u2019arm\u00e9e pour aider les gens, et je ne pouvais pas donner l\u2019exemple de cette fa\u00e7on. \u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, Sant\u00e9 Canada a autoris\u00e9 plusieurs changements aux p\u00e9riodes d\u2019exclusion des donneurs chez les hommes ayant des rapports sexuels avec des hommes (passant d\u2019une exclusion \u00e0 vie \u00e0 une p\u00e9riode de cinq hands en 2013, puis d\u2019un an en 2016 et de trois mois en 2019). La lenteur des changements, bien que frustrant pour beaucoup, a n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 un travail de sensibilisation et de recherche essentiel qui a contribu\u00e9, et y contribue toujours, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration de crit\u00e8res d\u2019admissibilit\u00e9 plus inclusifs relatifs aux dons de sang (et de plasma).<\/p>\n

Ce changement r\u00e9cent a donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 de nombreuses r\u00e9flexions et \u00e0 la reconnaissance des progr\u00e8s r\u00e9alis\u00e9s en vue de favoriser une exp\u00e9rience plus accessible pour les donneurs et d\u2019accro\u00eetre le nombre de dons de sang permettant de sauver des vies. Pour le Lcol Keddy, la longue attente et l\u2019anticipation ont fait de son premier don un moment m\u00e9morable et significatif : \u00ab Aujourd\u2019hui, le fait de pouvoir donner du sang, sur la base, pour la premi\u00e8re fois et en uniforme, est tr\u00e8s sp\u00e9cial. Les anciennes barri\u00e8res ont disparu et je peux maintenant contribuer, \u00e0 nouveau si je suis en d\u00e9ploiement ou comme simple citoyen. \u00catre capable de donner du sang est tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cieux, et surtout s\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019un donneur universel. Comme l\u2019\u00e9quipe de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne du sang l\u2019a mentionn\u00e9 plus t\u00f4t, je sauve trois vies aujourd'hui. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n
