Plus de 50 membres de l'\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale se sont r\u00e9unis au jardin de l'Amiraut\u00e9 le 29 septembre pour prendre part \u00e0 une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de purification avant les couleurs du matin \u00e0 la BFC Halifax.<\/p>\n

L'\u00e9v\u00e9nement \u00e9tait organis\u00e9 par le Groupe consultatif autochtone de la D\u00e9fense de l'Atlantique (GCADA), en collaboration avec le Centre d'amiti\u00e9 autochtone Mi'kmaw, en reconnaissance de la Journ\u00e9e nationale de v\u00e9rit\u00e9 et de r\u00e9conciliation du 30 septembre.<\/p>\n

L'a\u00een\u00e9e Capv h Debbie Eisan, membre de le GCADA et du Centre d'amiti\u00e9 autochtone Mi'kmaw, a donn\u00e9 une br\u00e8ve explication de la tradition de la purification et de l'importance des quatre rem\u00e8des sacr\u00e9s - tabac, foin d'odeur, sauge et c\u00e8dre - pour purifier le corps en \u00e9liminant les pens\u00e9es n\u00e9gatives et en favorisant la gu\u00e9rison.<\/p>\n

Elle a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'il \u00e9tait bon de voir un tel soutien, tant par le nombre de personnes qui sont venues participer \u00e0 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie que par le fait que beaucoup d'entre elles portaient des chemises orange en reconnaissance des survivants des pensionnats indiens et de ceux qui ne sont pas rentr\u00e9s chez eux.<\/p>\n

Aujourd'hui capitaine honoraire du NCSM Margaret Brooke, la Capv h Eisan a pris sa retraite au rang de premier ma\u00eetre de deuxi\u00e8me classe apr\u00e8s avoir pass\u00e9 36 ans dans la Marine royale canadienne. Margaret Brooke<\/i>, Hon Capt(N) Eisan retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer Second Class after spending 36 years in the Royal Canadian Navy.<\/p>\n

\u00ab C'est un jour tr\u00e8s sp\u00e9cial, non seulement pour nous, mais pour tout le monde. Il s'agit de v\u00e9rit\u00e9 et de r\u00e9conciliation. Plus je travaille avec la Marine ici sur la c\u00f4te Est, plus je vois la v\u00e9ritable signification de la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 et de la r\u00e9conciliation se concr\u00e9tiser. Ce n'est pas seulement quelque chose que l'on fait, cela vient du c\u0153ur \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de purification et la pri\u00e8re, le groupe de tambours Mothers of Nokomis a interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 le chant d'honneur avant que le drapeau Every Child Matters soit hiss\u00e9 pendant les couleurs du matin. Le drapeau a \u00e9t\u00e9 hiss\u00e9 une fois de plus pendant les couleurs du matin le 30 septembre.<\/p>\n

Le Contre-amiral Brian Santarpia, commandant des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique et de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique, et la Premier ma\u00eetre de premi\u00e8re classe Alena Mondelli, chef de la formation des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique, ont assist\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement.<\/p>\n

\u00ab C'est tellement important pour nous d'\u00eatre ici... de partager ce temps ensemble et de reconna\u00eetre l'importance de cette journ\u00e9e \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Cam Santarpia.<\/p>\n

La Pm 1 Mondelli a fait \u00e9cho \u00e0 ce sentiment, en disant que la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie offre une occasion de \u00ab r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 l'impact des pensionnats \u00bb \u00e0 travers le pays, y compris sur de nombreux membres des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes.<\/p>\n

La Ma\u00eetre de 1re classe (M 1) Cheyanne Delaronde, membre de le GCADA et administratrice des ressources humaines \u00e0 la BFC Halifax, \u00e9tait l'une des organisatrices de l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement. Ses deux grands-m\u00e8res ont fr\u00e9quent\u00e9 des pensionnats et sa m\u00e8re a \u00e9t\u00e9 enlev\u00e9e de son foyer familial lors du Sixties Scoop, p\u00e9riode allant du milieu des ann\u00e9es 1960 au milieu des ann\u00e9es 1980 au cours de laquelle des milliers d'enfants autochtones ont \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9s dans des familles d'accueil et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9s \u00e0 l'adoption en dehors de leur communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, la M 1 Delaronde a r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi aux changements qu'elle a constat\u00e9s dans l'attitude des gens et dans leur d\u00e9sir d'en savoir plus, surtout au cours de l'ann\u00e9e \u00e9coul\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

\u00ab La v\u00e9rit\u00e9 et la r\u00e9conciliation sont une question de sensibilisation. Je regarde autour de moi et je vois des gens ici aujourd'hui pour honorer et reconna\u00eetre que cela s'est produit, et que cela compte. Cela a beaucoup de sens pour moi \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n
