Deuxi\u00e8me rang\u00e9e : Bonnie Russell, Marilyn Peers, Heather Jones, Barb Publicover et Sharon Butler.<br \/>JOANIE VEITCH<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><b>M\u00e9dailles du Course de 10 km de la Marine  pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es aux Wrens de Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse<\/b><\/h3>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><b>Par Joanie Veitch,<br>\n<\/b>\u00c9quipe du trident<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dix membres de la Nova Scotia Wrens Association ont re\u00e7u des m\u00e9dailles comm\u00e9moratives con\u00e7ues pour la course de 10 km de la Marine, en l'honneur du 80e anniversaire de la cr\u00e9ation du Service f\u00e9minin de la Marine royale du Canada (WRCNS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le premier ma\u00eetre de premi\u00e8re classe (retrait\u00e9) JoAnn Cunningham, secr\u00e9taire de la NS Wren Association, a re\u00e7u les m\u00e9dailles comm\u00e9moratives des PSP de Halifax pour les remettre aux Wrens lors de la r\u00e9union r\u00e9guli\u00e8re du groupe au Peregrine Club le 5 octobre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab Vous n'avez peut-\u00eatre pas couru le 10 km, mais vous m\u00e9ritez une m\u00e9daille \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9 en les remettant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La plupart des membres de l'association sont ce que l'on appelle des \u00ab Wrens d'apr\u00e8s-guerre \u00bb - des femmes de la force r\u00e9guli\u00e8re ou de la r\u00e9serve navale qui ont rev\u00eatu l'uniforme de la marine avant la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980 lorsque, apr\u00e8s la signature de la Loi canadienne sur les droits de la personne et de la Charte canadienne des droits et libert\u00e9s, les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 recruter des femmes dans les m\u00e9tiers et les unit\u00e9s de combat. Tous les m\u00e9tiers militaires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 ouverts aux femmes en 1989.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avant la r\u00e9union, le M 1 (retrait\u00e9) Cunningham avait envoy\u00e9 ou livr\u00e9 des m\u00e9dailles \u00e0 trois autres \u00ab Wrens du temps de la guerre \u00bb : Mary (Adamson) Owen, Alison (Andrews) Yoshioka et Marjorie (Burns) Williams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mary Owen s'est engag\u00e9e dans le WRCNS en juin 1944, \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge de 18 ans, et a servi jusqu'\u00e0 l'automne 1945. Elle a suivi une formation de t\u00e9l\u00e9graphiste sans fil (op\u00e9ratrice sp\u00e9ciale) au NCSM Ste. Hyacinthe, au Qu\u00e9bec, avant d'\u00eatre affect\u00e9e \u00e0 East Baccaro, en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, o\u00f9 elle \u00e9tait op\u00e9ratrice Loran. Elle vit \u00e0 Perth, en Ontario.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alison Yoshioka est n\u00e9e dans la vall\u00e9e de l'Annapolis et a d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 \u00e0 Pictou, en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, lorsqu'elle avait 12 ans. Elle a servi de janvier 1944 \u00e0 mai 1946. Pendant cette p\u00e9riode, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 affect\u00e9e au NCSM Shelburne, puis au NCSM Niobe en \u00c9cosse. Apr\u00e8s la guerre, elle a rencontr\u00e9 son mari \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 ; ensemble, ils ont voyag\u00e9 partout au Canada et \u00e0 Trinidad, faisant du travail missionnaire et \u00e9levant leur famille. Elle est maintenant \u00e2g\u00e9e de 101 ans et vit \u00e0 Pictou. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shelburne<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and then to HMCS Niobe in Scotland. She met her husband in university after the war; together they travelled throughout Canada, and in Trinidad, doing missionary work and raising their family. She is now 101 years old and lives in Pictou.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marjorie Williams s'est jointe au WRCNS en avril 1943 et a servi jusqu'en juin 1946. Elle a fait partie de l'un des premiers groupes de Wrens \u00e0 partir outre-mer, o\u00f9 elle a travaill\u00e9 \u00e0 la Canadian Naval Mission Overseas (CNMO) \u00e0 Londres. Elle \u00e9tait l\u00e0 pendant le Blitz et a \u00e9galement assist\u00e9 aux c\u00e9l\u00e9brations du Jour de la Victoire en Europe \u00e0 Londres. Le 21 septembre, Marjorie Williams est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9e \u00e0 l'h\u00f4pital, entour\u00e9e de sa famille.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quelques semaines auparavant, le M 1 (ret) Cunningham avait rendu visite \u00e0 Marjorie Williams au b\u00e2timent comm\u00e9moratif des v\u00e9t\u00e9rans de Camp Hill pour lui apporter le programme du th\u00e9 tenu le 4 ao\u00fbt au jardin de l'Amiraut\u00e9 \u00e0 la BFC Halifax, pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer le 80e anniversaire du WRCNS, et pour lui remettre la m\u00e9daille du WRCNS de la course de 10 km de la Marine. \u00ab Elle a c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 son 100e anniversaire le 26 mai et se rappelait des histoires de sa vie pendant et apr\u00e8s la guerre \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9
