Along with support from Volleyball Nova Scotia and Volleyball Canada, he received support from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) out-service competition process. \/ Pour obtenir sa certification d&#8217;arbitre de volley-ball de niveau 4, le Ens 1 Alain Asafor Asafor Chi a arbitr\u00e9 trois comp\u00e9titions nationales de volley-ball l&#8217;\u00e9t\u00e9 dernier. En plus du soutien de Volleyball Nova Scotia et de Volleyball Canada, il a b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 du soutien du processus de comp\u00e9tition hors service des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI was too short,\u201d he said, with a chuckle. \u201cI was getting more time on the bench than playing and I drifted away from the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coming to Canada as an international engineering student at Concordia University in 2008, SLt Asafor Asafor Chi reconnected with the sport after discovering beach volleyball. His interest rekindled, a conversation with a friend he had played volleyball with back home in Cameroon convinced him that there may be other ways to get involved and keep volleyball in his life.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling motivated, SLt Asafor Asafor Chi took a refereeing course one weekend in October 2008 and began refereeing \u2014 starting first with a level 1 certification at the junior high school level, alongside a more experienced referee.<\/p>\n<p>Now, as a level 3 volleyball referee, SLt Asafor Asafor Chi is registered with Volleyball Nova Scotia (VNS) and Volleyball Canada (VC) and has been supported by both organizations to participate in a promotion program offered through Volleyball Canada to qualify for the next step \u2013 his level 4 volleyball referee certification.<\/p>\n<p>He also received support from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) out-service competition process. A separate component of the Conseil international du sport militaire (CISM) international sports program, the CAF out-service competition process provides support and assistance to help encourage high-level athletes that fall outside the parameters of the current CAF military sports structure.<\/p>\n<p>This past summer, as part of his training and development to attain his level 4 designation, SLt Asafor Asafor Chi refereed at three major national volleyball competitions \u2014 the Canada Youth Nationals, held in Edmonton, AB in May, the Canada Cup, at Tsuu\u2019ina Nation, AB in July, and the Canada Summer Games held August 15-21 in Niagara, ON.<\/p>\n<p>For the level 4 designation \u2013 \u201cThey only want the best, and you get to referee the best that Canada has to offer, sometimes at international games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The intensity at that level of competition is immense, SLt Asafor Asafor Chi added, reflecting on his time serving as second referee at the Canada Cup men\u2019s finals in high-stakes situations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pressure was huge on all sides,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pressure just builds and builds until the point when you start the game \u2014 that\u2019s when you\u2019re at the highest point \u2014 but as the game goes on, it goes down\u2026. When the pressure gets too high, it\u2019s very easy to lose focus and make a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A naval combat systems engineering officer, SLt Asafor Asafor Chi joined the CAF in February 2020 and is currently on course at Naval Fleet School (Atlantic) (NFS(A) and will be taking a posting with HMCS <i>Ville de Quebec<\/i> in October.<\/p>\n<p>Balancing the demands of his naval career with his sport can be difficult but SLt Asafor Asafor Chi said he has benefited enormously from the \u201cfull support\u201d of his chain of command and NFS(A), in terms of scheduling and accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>While still in process to get his level 4 certification, SLt Asafor Asafor Chi has level 5 \u2014 the highest level at an international level \u2014 in his sights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love it. My friend in Cameroon\u00a0 \u2014the one who encouraged me to do this all those years ago \u2014 he\u2019s at level 5 as a referee. Our dream would be to referee at a competition together. Who knows? Maybe. Son int\u00e9r\u00eat s&#8217;est raviv\u00e9 lorsqu&#8217;une conversation avec un ami avec qui il avait jou\u00e9 au volleyball au Cameroun l&#8217;a convaincu qu&#8217;il y avait peut-\u00eatre d&#8217;autres fa\u00e7ons de s&#8217;impliquer et de garder le volleyball dans sa vie.<\/p>\n<p>Motiv\u00e9, le Ens 1 Asafor Asafor Chi a suivi un cours d&#8217;arbitrage un week-end d&#8217;octobre 2008 et a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 arbitrer &#8211; en commen\u00e7ant par une certification de niveau 1 au niveau du coll\u00e8ge, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d&#8217;un arbitre plus exp\u00e9riment\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd&#8217;hui, en tant qu&#8217;arbitre de volley-ball de niveau 3, il est inscrit aupr\u00e8s de Volleyball Nova Scotia et de Volleyball Canada et a \u00e9t\u00e9 soutenu par les deux organisations pour participer \u00e0 un programme de promotion offert par Volleyball Canada afin de se qualifier pour la prochaine \u00e9tape &#8211; sa certification d&#8217;arbitre de volley-ball de niveau 4.<\/p>\n<p>Il a \u00e9galement re\u00e7u le soutien du processus de comp\u00e9tition hors service des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC). Composante distincte du programme sportif international du Conseil international du sport militaire (CISM), le processus de comp\u00e9tition hors service des FAC offre un soutien et une aide pour encourager les athl\u00e8tes de haut niveau qui ne font pas partie des param\u00e8tres de la structure sportive militaire actuelle des FAC.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;\u00e9t\u00e9 dernier, dans le cadre de sa formation et de son perfectionnement en vue de l&#8217;obtention de la d\u00e9signation de niveau 4, le Ens 1 Asafor Asafor Chi a arbitr\u00e9 trois grandes comp\u00e9titions nationales de volley-ball : les Championnats nationaux de la jeunesse du Canada, tenus \u00e0 Edmonton (Alberta) en mai, la Coupe Canada, \u00e0 la Nation Tsuu&#8217;ina (Alberta) en juillet, et les Jeux d&#8217;\u00e9t\u00e9 du Canada, tenus du 15 au 21 ao\u00fbt \u00e0 Niagara (Ontario).<\/p>\n<p>Pour la d\u00e9signation de niveau 4 &#8211; \u00ab Ils ne veulent que les meilleurs, et vous avez l&#8217;occasion d&#8217;arbitrer ce que le Canada a de mieux \u00e0 offrir, parfois lors de jeux internationaux. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;intensit\u00e9 \u00e0 ce niveau de comp\u00e9tition est immense, a ajout\u00e9 le Ens 1 Asafor Asafor Chi, en se rem\u00e9morant la p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 il a servi de second arbitre lors des finales masculines de la Coupe du Canada dans des situations \u00e0 fort enjeu.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab La pression \u00e9tait \u00e9norme de tous les c\u00f4t\u00e9s, \u00bb a-t-il dit.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab La pression ne fait que monter et monter jusqu&#8217;au moment o\u00f9 vous commencez le match &#8211; c&#8217;est l\u00e0 que vous \u00eates au plus haut niveau &#8211; mais au fur et \u00e0 mesure que le match avance, elle descend&#8230;.. Lorsque la pression devient trop forte, il est tr\u00e8s facile de perdre sa concentration et de faire une erreur. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Officier de g\u00e9nie des syst\u00e8mes de combat naval, le Ens 1 Asafor Asafor Chi s&#8217;est joint aux FAC en f\u00e9vrier 2020. Il suit actuellement des cours \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00c9cole navale Atlantique) (EN(A)) et sera affect\u00e9 au NCSM Ville de Qu\u00e9bec en octobre.<\/p>\n<p>Il peut \u00eatre difficile de concilier les exigences de sa carri\u00e8re navale et de son sport, mais le Ens 1 Asafor Asafor Chi dit avoir \u00e9norm\u00e9ment b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 du \u00ab\u00a0 soutien total \u00bb\u00a0 de sa cha\u00eene de commandement et de la EN(A), en termes d&#8217;horaires et d&#8217;h\u00e9bergement.<\/p>\n<p>Bien qu&#8217;il soit encore en train d&#8217;obtenir sa certification de niveau 4, le Ens 1 Asafor Asafor Chi a le niveau 5 &#8211; le plus haut niveau international &#8211; en ligne de mire.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab J&#8217;adorerais cela. Mon ami camerounais, celui qui m&#8217;a encourag\u00e9 \u00e0 faire cela il y a tant d&#8217;ann\u00e9es, a atteint le niveau 5 en tant qu&#8217;arbitre.
