Royal Canadian Navy mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth II<\/b><\/h3>\n

After taking the throne on February 6, 1952 and reigning for 70 years and 127 days, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96. She was the longest reigning monarch in British and Commonwealth history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Queen\u2019s legacy runs deep within the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). Her passing is deeply felt by our members and we extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family as we honour Her Majesty\u2019s memory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her Majesty\u2019s long relationship with the RCN is fondly marked by several events including RCN attendance at Her Majesty\u2019s coronation, the presentation of the Queen\u2019s Colour and her participation in the International Fleet Review in 2010, and most recently as part of the Canadian Armed Forces contingent marching in Her Majesty\u2019s Platinum Jubilee Pageant this past June.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The RCN proudly participated at Her Majesty\u2019s coronation in 1953, sending ships, an aircraft carrier, cruisers and destroyers to represent Canada at the celebration. The RCN also honourably bears the Queen\u2019s Colour\u2014a flag that includes Canada\u2019s national flag, an \u201cE\u201d encircled by a chaplet of roses and the badge of the RCN. The flag replaced that of the Queen\u2019s father, whose own flag flew during the Second World War, representing the Navy\u2019s fight on behalf of the monarch.\u00a0<\/span>More recently, the Queen attended the International Fleet Review in 2010 where she sailed aboard Her Majesty\u2019s Canadian Ship (HMCS) <\/span>St John\u2019s<\/span><\/i>. Navies from across the world gathered in Halifax to welcome Her Majesty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s \u00eatre mont\u00e9e sur le tr\u00f4ne le 6 f\u00e9vrier 1952 et avoir r\u00e9gn\u00e9 pendant 70 ans et 127 jours, Sa Majest\u00e9 la reine Elizabeth II est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9e le 8 septembre 2022 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 96 ans. Elle est le monarque qui a connu le plus long r\u00e8gne de l\u2019histoire de la Grande-Bretagne et du Commonwealth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L\u2019h\u00e9ritage de la Reine occupe une place importante au sein de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC). Nos membres sont profond\u00e9ment touch\u00e9s par son d\u00e9c\u00e8s et nous pr\u00e9sentons nos plus sinc\u00e8res condol\u00e9ances \u00e0 la famille royale alors que nous rendons hommage \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire de Sa Majest\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

La longue relation entre Sa Majest\u00e9 et la MRC est marqu\u00e9e par plusieurs \u00e9v\u00e9nements, notamment la pr\u00e9sence de la MRC lors de son couronnement, la pr\u00e9sentation du drapeau royal et sa participation \u00e0 la Revue internationale de la Flotte en 2010 et, plus r\u00e9cemment, la participation du contingent des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes au d\u00e9fil\u00e9 du jubil\u00e9 de platine de Sa Majest\u00e9, en juin dernier.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La MRC a particip\u00e9 avec fiert\u00e9 au couronnement de Sa Majest\u00e9 en 1953, en envoyant des navires, un porte-avions, des croiseurs et des destroyers pour repr\u00e9senter le Canada lors de la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration. De plus, la MRC porte honorablement le drapeau consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 la Reine \u2013 lequel comporte le drapeau du Canada, un \u00ab\u00a0E\u00a0\u00bb encercl\u00e9 par un chapelet de roses et l\u2019insigne de la MRC. Ce drapeau a remplac\u00e9 celui du p\u00e8re de la Reine, dont le propre drapeau flottait pendant la Deuxi\u00e8me Guerre mondiale, pour symboliser le combat de la Marine au nom du monarque.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Plus r\u00e9cemment, la Reine a pris part \u00e0 la Revue internationale de la Flotte en 2010, au cours de laquelle elle a navigu\u00e9 \u00e0 bord du navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) <\/span>St John\u2019s<\/span><\/i>.
