Stalker 822 crew remembered at 2nd annual Memorial Golf Tournament<\/b><\/h3>\n

Families and friends came together for the second annual Stalker 822 Memorial Golf Tournament at Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club on August 22, held in memory of the six Canadian Armed Forces members who died on April 29, 2020, when a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter \u2014 Stalker 822 \u2014 crashed off the coast of Greece during Operation Reassurance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now in its second year, the tournament offers a way for people to support the friends and family of the six crew members, as well as giving everyone a chance to reconnect, said event organizer S1 Shane Cowbrough.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe want this to be something where we come together to talk and share some memories, and \u2014 most importantly \u2014 have fun,\u201d he said, in between sips of coffee and greeting people as they arrived at the golf club.<\/span><\/p>\n

S1 Cowbrough\u2019s daughter, Sub-Lieutenant Abbigail Cowbrough, a marine systems engineering officer, was one of the six on Stalker 822, along with Master Corporal Matthew Cousins, an airborne electronic sensor operator, Captain Kevin Hagen, a pilot, Captain Maxime Miron-Morin, an air combat systems officer, Captain Brenden MacDonald, a pilot, and Sub-Lieutenant Matthew Pyke, a naval warfare officer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although he\u2019s the main organizer of the event, S1 Cowbrough said mounting an annual golf tournament is a collective effort.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is year two and it\u2019s definitely been a big learning curve over the past two years. It takes a village like they say\u2026 there\u2019s no way I could do this without support from the amazing volunteers who come out and are so willing to help,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Expressing his thanks to Marc Jessome, manager of the Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club, for his assistance, S1 Cowbrough said several local veterans\u2019 organizations also provided significant support, such as the Eastern Region Veterans UN NATO and the Eastern Passage branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, who donated a wreath for the memorial hole, where photos of the crew are placed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Veteran Farm Project also provided fresh flowers from their memorial garden, planted in 2021 in honour of SLt Abbigail Cowbrough.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before the golfers headed out for the day, two members of 12 Wing Pipes and Drums played a solemn tribute to the crew. SLt Cowbrough had been a member of the band.<\/span><\/p>\n

As with its inaugural year, proceeds from donations, ticket sales, and other sponsorship money goes to Soldier On, a CAF program that supports the recovery and rehabilitation of military members and veterans struggling with physical and mental injuries through sport and recreational activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the main goal is to bring people together in memory of the crew members of Stalker 822, S1 Cowbrough said he hopes to continue to increase the amount of military and corporate support for the event in future years.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s good for us to get together, it\u2019s important that we do this,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les familles et les amis se sont r\u00e9unis pour le deuxi\u00e8me tournoi de golf annuel comm\u00e9moratif Stalker 822 au Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club le 22 ao\u00fbt, en m\u00e9moire des six membres des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes qui ont perdu la vie le 29 avril 2020, lorsqu’un h\u00e9licopt\u00e8re CH-148 Cyclone – Stalker 822 – s’est \u00e9cras\u00e9 au large des c\u00f4tes de la Gr\u00e8ce pendant l’op\u00e9ration R\u00e9assurance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le tournoi, qui en est \u00e0 sa deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9dition, permet aux gens de soutenir les amis et la famille des six membres de l’\u00e9quipage, tout en donnant \u00e0 chacun une chance de se retrouver, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 l’organisateur de l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement, le Mat 1 Shane Cowbrough.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous voulons que ce tournoi soit l’occasion de se r\u00e9unir pour parler, partager des souvenirs et, surtout, s’amuser <\/span>\u00bb<\/span>, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9, entre deux gorg\u00e9es de caf\u00e9 et en saluant les gens qui arrivaient au club de golf.<\/span><\/p>\n

La fille du Mat 1 Cowbrough, la Ma\u00eetre de 1re classe Abbigail Cowbrough, officier d’ing\u00e9nierie des syst\u00e8mes marins, \u00e9tait l’une des six personnes \u00e0 bord du Stalker 822, avec le Caporal-chef Matthew Cousins, op\u00e9rateur de capteurs \u00e9lectroniques a\u00e9roport\u00e9s, le Capitaine Kevin Hagen, pilote, le capitaine Maxime Miron-Morin, officier des syst\u00e8mes de combat a\u00e9rien, le Capitaine Brenden MacDonald, pilote, et le Ma\u00eetre de 1re classe Matthew Pyke, officier de guerre navale.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bien qu’il soit le principal organisateur de l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement, le Mat 1 Cowbrough a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que l’organisation d’un tournoi de golf annuel est un effort collectif.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab C’est la deuxi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e et nous avons beaucoup appris au cours des deux derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Il faut un village, comme on dit… Je ne pourrais jamais faire cela sans le soutien des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles extraordinaires qui viennent et sont si d\u00e9sireux d’aider <\/span>\u00bb<\/span> , a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remerciant Marc Jessome, g\u00e9rant du Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club, pour son aide, le Mat1 Cowbrough a indiqu\u00e9 que plusieurs organisations locales d’anciens combattants ont \u00e9galement apport\u00e9 un soutien important, comme les Anciens combattants de la r\u00e9gion de l’Est de l’OTAN et la filiale Eastern Passage de la L\u00e9gion royale canadienne, qui ont fait don d’une couronne pour le trou comm\u00e9moratif, o\u00f9 sont plac\u00e9es des photos de l’\u00e9quipage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Veteran Farm Project a \u00e9galement fourni des fleurs fra\u00eeches provenant de son jardin comm\u00e9moratif, plant\u00e9 en 2021 en l’honneur de la Ens 1 Abbigail Cowbrough.<\/span><\/p>\n

Avant que les golfeurs ne partent pour la journ\u00e9e, deux membres du corps de cornemuses de la 12e escadre ont jou\u00e9 un hommage solennel \u00e0 l’\u00e9quipage. La Ens 1 Cowbrough avait \u00e9t\u00e9 membre de l’orchestre.<\/span><\/p>\n

Comme pour l’ann\u00e9e inaugurale, les recettes provenant des dons, de la vente de billets et d’autres commandites sont vers\u00e9es \u00e0 Sans Limites, un programme des FAC qui soutient le r\u00e9tablissement et la r\u00e9adaptation des militaires et des anciens combattants aux prises avec des blessures physiques et mentales par le biais d’activit\u00e9s sportives et r\u00e9cr\u00e9atives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bien que l’objectif principal soit de rassembler les gens en m\u00e9moire des membres de l’\u00e9quipage du Stalker 822, le Mat 1 Cowbrough a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu’il esp\u00e9rait continuer \u00e0 augmenter le soutien des militaires et des entreprises \u00e0 l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement dans les ann\u00e9es \u00e0 venir.<\/span><\/p>\n
