New CO at the helm of FMFCS<\/b><\/h3>\n

In his farewell address, the outgoing Commanding Officer at Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott (FMFCS) thanked the facility\u2019s employees and managers, saying he couldn\u2019t have asked for a better team of professionals.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour personal commitment and dedication to our ongoing success is commendable,\u201d said Commodore Michel Thibault, speaking at a change of command ceremony held outside FMFCS at Her Majesty\u2019s Canadian Dockyard Halifax on July 14.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality of military units is that Commanding Officers come and go every couple of years, resulting in employees and managers having to constantly adapt and react,\u201d he said. \u201cIn this unprecedented year of challenges, the team at FMF demonstrated a true commitment to Canada and a profound sense of resolve in the face of adversity with your outstanding personal flexibility to adapt in an ever-changing workplace posture.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Commanding Officer of FMFCS since April 2020, Cmdre Thibault called his time at the helm \u201cthe best job\u201d of his career.<\/p>\n

As well as with thanking his family for their support, Cmdre Thibault thanked MARLANT senior leadership, other members of the command team and the various union leaders at the facility \u2014 listing each personally by name \u2014 for their guidance and commitment to ensuring FMF Cape Scott operates with a \u201cstrong sense of unity and purpose\u201d.<\/p>\n

Cmdre Thibault was recently promoted to his current rank and will return to the national capital region as Project Manager with the Canadian Surface Combatant project.<\/p>\n

Captain (Navy) Jonathan Lafontaine, the incoming CO, comes to FMFCS with a wealth of experience, most recently as acting Chief of Staff for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am humbled and grateful to be taking on the role of Commanding Officer from Cmdre Thibault,\u201d said Capt(N) Lafontaine. \u201cIt\u2019s clear he has had a tremendous positive impact on the organization and its employees during his tenure. I have big shoes to fill but I am up for the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

With new Arctic ships being added to the fleet and older ships to maintain, FMFCS will play a central role and see an increased tempo in the coming years, Capt(N) Lafontaine said.<\/p>\n

Looking to the challenges ahead, it\u2019s important to build on the positive work already underway at FMFCS, he added, outlining his commitment to fostering \u201ca culture of trust\u201d both within and outside the organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must build trust in each other by being open and transparent about our intent, by righting wrongs when we see them, and by creating a respectful and inclusive workplace where every single person feels they can be themselves and work to achieve their full potential,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rear-Admiral Brian Santarpia, Commander of Maritime Forces Atlantic and Joint Task Force Atlantic, presided over the ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u00ab La r\u00e9alit\u00e9 des unit\u00e9s militaires est que les commandants vont et viennent tous les deux ans, ce qui fait que les employ\u00e9s et les gestionnaires doivent constamment s’adapter et r\u00e9agir \u00bb, a-t-il dit. \u00ab Au cours de cette ann\u00e9e de d\u00e9fis sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent, l’\u00e9quipe de l’IMF a fait preuve d’un v\u00e9ritable engagement envers le Canada et d’un sens profond de la r\u00e9solution face \u00e0 l’adversit\u00e9, avec votre flexibilit\u00e9 personnelle exceptionnelle pour vous adapter dans une posture de travail en constante \u00e9volution. \u00bb<\/p>\n

En tant que commandant de l\u2019IMFCS depuis avril 2020, le Cmdre Thibault a qualifi\u00e9 son passage \u00e0 la barre de \u00ab meilleur emploi \u00bb de sa carri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n

En plus de remercier sa famille pour son soutien, le Cmdre Thibault a remerci\u00e9 la haute direction des FMAR(A), les autres membres de l’\u00e9quipe de commandement et les divers dirigeants syndicaux de l’installation – en les nommant personnellement – pour leurs conseils et leur engagement \u00e0 faire en sorte que l’IMF Cape Scott fonctionne avec un \u00ab fort sentiment d’unit\u00e9 et d’objectif. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Le Cmdre Thibault a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 promu \u00e0 son grade actuel et retournera dans la r\u00e9gion de la capitale nationale en tant que gestionnaire de projet pour le projet des combattants de surface canadiens.<\/p>\n

Le capitaine de vaisseau Jonathan Lafontaine, le nouveau commandant, arrive \u00e0 l’IMFCS avec une riche exp\u00e9rience, plus r\u00e9cemment en tant que chef d’\u00e9tat-major int\u00e9rimaire pour le projet des Navires de patrouille extrac\u00f4tier et de l\u2019Arctique (NPEA).<\/p>\n

J’ai de grands souliers \u00e0 remplir, mais je suis pr\u00eat \u00e0 relever le d\u00e9fi. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Avec l’ajout de nouveaux navires arctiques \u00e0 la flotte et l’entretien des navires plus anciens, l’IMFCS jouera un r\u00f4le central et conna\u00eetra un rythme accru au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Capv Lafontaine.<\/p>\n

En ce qui concerne les d\u00e9fis \u00e0 venir, il est important de s’appuyer sur le travail positif d\u00e9j\u00e0 en cours \u00e0 l’IMFCS, a-t-il ajout\u00e9, soulignant son engagement \u00e0 favoriser \u00ab une culture de confiance \u00bb tant \u00e0 l’int\u00e9rieur qu’\u00e0 l’ext\u00e9rieur de l’organisation.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous devons \u00e9tablir une confiance mutuelle en \u00e9tant ouverts et transparents quant \u00e0 nos intentions, en corrigeant les erreurs lorsque nous les voyons et en cr\u00e9ant un lieu de travail respectueux et inclusif o\u00f9 chaque personne sent qu’elle peut \u00eatre elle-m\u00eame et travailler pour atteindre son plein potentiel \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n
