{"id":7708,"date":"2022-04-03T13:34:13","date_gmt":"2022-04-03T16:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tridentnewspaper.com\/?p=7708"},"modified":"2022-04-03T21:35:49","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T00:35:49","slug":"look-back-ndwcc-2021-retour-sur-la-ccmtdn-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tridentnewspaper.com\/fr\/look-back-ndwcc-2021-retour-sur-la-ccmtdn-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"A look back at NDWCC 2021 \/ Retour sur la CCMTDN 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><b>A look back at NDWCC 2021<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><b>By Himaly Fernando,<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021 MARLANT NDWCC Communications &amp; Events Officer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In early October 2021, as COVID-19 restrictions eased and our ability to safely gather once more became possible, our local Defence Team came together in support of the National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In partnership with United Way and Health Partners, the NDWCC provides Defence Team members with a direct line to donate to over 86,500 charities, including numerous organizations with strong ties to Canada\u2019s military.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our local 2021 campaign kicked off with a number of barbeque events at Willow Park and Stadacona as well as the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax Base Commander\u2019s NDWCC Golf Tournament at Hartlen Point Golf Club. At the same time, an amazing group of trained canvassers was beginning their important work, connecting with local Defence Team members to make them aware of the many ways to donate to the cause.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCanvassing for the NDWCC and planning events have been challenging tasks compared to years past given that we have all had to be adaptable to ever-changing risk postures and a variety of important public health measures,\u201d says Capt(N) Sean Williams, CFB Halifax Base Commander and MARLANT\u2019s NDWCC Champion. \u201cI applaud our Defence Team for their creativity and determination to see the campaign through despite these challenges.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our local Defence community proved we are stronger together through the planning and execution of various events and initiatives across a number of units from mid-October to mid-December. At Stadacona, members enjoyed activities such as the NDWCC Leadership Breakfast, the Naval Museum of Halifax\u2019s night at the museum ghost tour, Campus Atlantic\u2019s silent auction, Base Administration\u2019s candy jars and raffles, and Canadian Forces Health Services Centre (Atlantic)\u2019s Commanding Officer parking raffle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team at 12 Wing Shearwater saw fundraising success through their family portraits and \u00bc Mile events, while 5th Canadian Division headquarters planned various BBQ\u2019s, bake sales and draws. In addition, many of our ships planned their own fundraising initiatives such as Canadian Fleet Atlantic\u2019s Great Getaway Giveaway, HMCS <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. John&#8217;s\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Simply Spooktacular NDWCC Halloween Haunt and HMCS <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlottetown<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s Walk the Plank fundraiser where the Operations Chief and Coxswain jumped in the harbour. He was even spotted changing the tires on his own vehicles during TEME\u2019s popular Ex Dirty Hands fundraiser!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As canvassing and events slowed and we entered into the holiday season, Defence Team members participated in the always anticipated NDWCC Day of Caring. This annual day of volunteerism, a United Way Halifax initiative, matches organizations and individuals with hands-on projects within our community. Our Defence Team is always eager to participate in this important day as it connects us directly with some of the incredible charitable organizations that positively impact our communities through poverty reduction, health and wellness support and other means. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In keeping with public health guidelines at that time, our Defence Team\u2019s Day of Caring activities were spread across three separate days. This allowed us to work in smaller groups while remaining compliant with all protective health measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On December 7, members of HMCS <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Halifax<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> spent the day at Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank in Halifax. The team was able to clean and reorganize the food staging area, the furniture warehouse, the toy and clothes donations warehouse, and their fridges in just one day. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On December 10, Defence Team members headed to St. Paul&#8217;s Family Resources Institute in Spryfield. Here they assembled 250+ toiletry bags for distribution, cleaned and organized the storage room, sorted and organized non-perishable items in preparation for Christmas food hampers, prepared the facility for food hamper distribution and prepared \u201cweekend\u201d bags for local schools.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, on December 14, Defence Team members joined together at Feed Nova Scotia for our final Day of Caring activity. In just three hours the team was able to sort, categorize, pack, weigh, label and palletize 2600+ kgs of food just before the holidays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI enjoy these opportunities because we get to give back to our community, and they are great team building exercises,\u201d explains CPO2 Lynn Cassidy, the Defence Team lead for our Day of Caring at St. Paul&#8217;s Family Resources Institute \u201cWe spoke with the volunteers there and really got an appreciation for the work they do. The weekend bags we prepared, for example, go directly to the schools and ensure these kids get enough food for the weekend. Knowing that we made a difference and how it really does impact our community really shows the importance of the NDWCC.\u201d<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In late December, after months of campaigning, fundraising, and volunteering, the official 2021 MARLANT NDWCC came to a close. We would like to thank our dedicated canvassers, campaign ambassadors, event planners and Day of Caring volunteers for contributing to the success of this campaign. Canvassing to every military and civilian member in our local Defence community and coming up with safe and feasible event ideas for your respective units are not small tasks, especially during a global pandemic. We also want to commend all local Defence Team members who participated in the campaign by contributing funds, attending events, participating in raffles, draws, BBQs and the like. Your campaign contributions will impact the lives of friends and neighbours right here in our community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In total, our local Defence Team raised over $190,000 for important causes during the 2021 NDWCC campaign season; this is a commendable effort that shows how caring for our friends and neighbours is still in the minds and hearts of our members. Thank you all, once again, for remaining committed to the NDWCC. Your continued support makes all the difference.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Retour sur la CCMTDN 2021 <\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Par Himaly Fernando,<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offici\u00e8re responsable des activit\u00e9s et des communications de la CCMTDN des FMAR(A) de 2021\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Au d\u00e9but du mois d\u2019octobre 2021, alors que les restrictions de la COVID-19 s\u2019assouplissaient et que nous pouvions \u00e0 nouveau nous rassembler en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9, notre \u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale a uni ses efforts pour soutenir la Campagne de charit\u00e9 en milieu de travail de la D\u00e9fense nationale (CCMTDN).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En partenariat avec Centraide et PartenaireSant\u00e9, la CCMTDN offre aux membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense une ligne directe pour faire des dons \u00e0 plus de 86 500 organismes de bienfaisance, y compris de nombreux organismes ayant des liens \u00e9troits avec les militaires canadiens. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le coup d\u2019envoi de notre campagne locale de 2021 a \u00e9t\u00e9 donn\u00e9 par un certain nombre de barbecues \u00e0 Willow Park et \u00e0 Stadacona, ainsi que par le tournoi de golf de la CCMTDN du commandant de la base des Forces canadiennes (BFC) Halifax, qui a eu lieu au terrain de golf de Hartlen Point. Au m\u00eame moment, un groupe formidable de solliciteurs form\u00e9s commen\u00e7ait son important travail, en communiquant avec les membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale pour les informer des nombreuses fa\u00e7ons de faire un don.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab La sollicitation pour la CCMTDN et la planification des activit\u00e9s ont repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 des t\u00e2ches difficiles par rapport aux ann\u00e9es pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 que nous avons tous d\u00fb nous adapter aux changements constants des niveaux de risque et \u00e0 diverses mesures de sant\u00e9 publique importantes \u00bb, indique le Capv Sean Williams, commandant de la BFC Halifax et champion de la CCMTDN des FMAR(A). \u00ab Je f\u00e9licite notre \u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense pour sa cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 et sa d\u00e9termination en vue de mener \u00e0 bien la campagne malgr\u00e9 ces d\u00e9fis. \u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notre communaut\u00e9 locale de la D\u00e9fense a montr\u00e9 que nous sommes plus forts ensemble gr\u00e2ce aux diverses activit\u00e9s et initiatives qu\u2019elle a planifi\u00e9es et mises en \u0153uvre dans un certain nombre d\u2019unit\u00e9s, de la mi-octobre \u00e0 la mi-d\u00e9cembre. \u00c0 Stadacona, les membres ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 des activit\u00e9s, comme le petit-d\u00e9jeuner des dirigeants de la CCMTDN, la nuit au Mus\u00e9e naval d\u2019Halifax avec les revenants, l\u2019encan silencieux au campus Atlantique, les pots de bonbons et les tirages au sort de l\u2019administration de la base et le tirage du stationnement du commandant du Centre des services de sant\u00e9 des Forces canadiennes (Atlantique).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019\u00e9quipe de la 12<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Escadre Shearwater a connu du succ\u00e8s en termes de collecte de fonds gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses\u00a0portraits de famille\u00a0et \u00e0 l\u2019activit\u00e9 du quart de mile, tandis que le quartier g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la 5<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Division du Canada organisait diverses activit\u00e9s, comme des barbecues, des ventes de p\u00e2tisserie et des tirages. De plus, de nombreux membres d\u2019\u00e9quipage de navires ont organis\u00e9 leurs propres activit\u00e9s de financement, comme l\u2019Escapade cadeau de la Flotte de la Flotte canadienne de l\u2019Atlantique, la maison hant\u00e9e de la CCMTDN tout simplement fantosmatique du NCSM <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. John\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> et la collecte de fonds \u00ab\u00a0Marchez sur la planche\u00a0\u00bb du NCSM <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlottetown<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, qui consistait \u00e0 faire sauter le chef des op\u00e9rations et le capitaine d\u2019armes dans le port. Il ne s\u2019agit que d\u2019un \u00e9chantillon de la grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019activit\u00e9s rendues possibles gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019ing\u00e9niosit\u00e9 et \u00e0 la passion de nos membres.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u00a0Je suis heureux de constater que notre engagement envers cette cause est toujours aussi manifeste\u00a0\u00bb, explique le Capv Williams, qui a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs activit\u00e9s, notamment au barbecue dans les installations de Transport et g\u00e9nie \u00e9lectrique et m\u00e9canique (TGEM) et au petit-d\u00e9jeuner des dirigeants. Il a m\u00eame \u00e9t\u00e9 aper\u00e7u en train de changer les pneus de ses propres v\u00e9hicules pendant la populaire collecte de fonds du TGEM \u00ab\u00a0Ex Dirty Hands\u00a0\u00bb!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00c0 l\u2019approche de la p\u00e9riode des F\u00eates, alors que la sollicitation et les activit\u00e9s ralentissaient, les membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la traditionnelle Journ\u00e9e d\u2019entraide de la CCMTDN. Cette journ\u00e9e de b\u00e9n\u00e9volat annuelle, qui est une initiative de Centraide Halifax, permet de jumeler des organismes et des personnes en vue de r\u00e9aliser des projets pratiques au sein de notre communaut\u00e9. Notre \u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense est toujours enthousiaste \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e de participer \u00e0 cette journ\u00e9e importante, car elle nous permet d\u2019\u00e9tablir des liens directs avec certains des formidables organismes de bienfaisance qui contribuent \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la vie de nos communaut\u00e9s en r\u00e9duisant la pauvret\u00e9 et en soutenant la sant\u00e9 et le bien-\u00eatre, entre autres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Afin de respecter les directives de sant\u00e9 publique de l\u2019\u00e9poque, les activit\u00e9s de la Journ\u00e9e d\u2019entraide de notre \u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tal\u00e9es sur trois jours distincts. Cela nous a permis de travailler en plus petits groupes et de nous conformer \u00e0 toutes les mesures de protection de la sant\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le 7 d\u00e9cembre, des membres de l\u2019\u00e9quipage du NCSM <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Halifax<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ont pass\u00e9 la journ\u00e9e \u00e0 la Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank \u00e0 Halifax. Ils y ont assembl\u00e9 plus de 250 trousses de toilette \u00e0 distribuer, nettoy\u00e9 et organis\u00e9 le local d\u2019entreposage, tri\u00e9 et organis\u00e9 les denr\u00e9es non p\u00e9rissables en vue de la pr\u00e9paration des paniers de No\u00ebl, pr\u00e9par\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9tablissement pour la distribution des paniers alimentaires et pr\u00e9par\u00e9 des sacs pour la \u00ab fin de semaine \u00bb \u00e0 l\u2019intention des \u00e9coles locales. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enfin, le 14 d\u00e9cembre, des membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense se sont r\u00e9unis \u00e0 Feed Nova Scotia pour participer \u00e0 notre derni\u00e8re activit\u00e9 de la Journ\u00e9e d\u2019entraide. En seulement trois heures, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 trier, \u00e0 classer par cat\u00e9gorie, \u00e0 emballer, \u00e0 peser, \u00e0 \u00e9tiqueter et \u00e0 palettiser plus de 2\u00a0600 kg de nourriture juste avant les F\u00eates.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u00a0J\u2019aime participer \u00e0 ces activit\u00e9s, car elles nous permettent de redonner \u00e0 notre communaut\u00e9 et parce qu\u2019elles constituent d\u2019excellents exercices de renforcement de l\u2019esprit d\u2019\u00e9quipe\u00a0\u00bb, explique la PM 2 Lynn Cassidy, chef de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense pour notre Journ\u00e9e d\u2019entraide au St. Paul\u2019s Family Resources Institute. \u00ab\u00a0Nous avons parl\u00e9 avec les b\u00e9n\u00e9voles sur place et avons vraiment pu appr\u00e9cier le travail qu\u2019ils font. Nous tenons \u00e0 remercier nos solliciteurs d\u00e9vou\u00e9s, les ambassadeurs de la campagne, les planificateurs d\u2019activit\u00e9s et les b\u00e9n\u00e9voles de la Journ\u00e9e d\u2019entraide pour leur contribution au succ\u00e8s de cette campagne. Nous tenons \u00e9galement \u00e0 f\u00e9liciter tous les membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale qui ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la campagne en apportant une contribution financi\u00e8re, en participant \u00e0 des activit\u00e9s, \u00e0 des tirages au sort, \u00e0 des barbecues, etc. Votre contribution \u00e0 la campagne permettra d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la vie de vos amis et de vos voisins ici m\u00eame dans notre communaut\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En tout, notre \u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale a recueilli plus de 180\u00a0000\u00a0$ au profit d\u2019importants organismes de bienfaisance dans le cadre de la CCMTDN de 2021; il s\u2019agit d\u2019un effort louable qui montre \u00e0 quel point le souci de nos amis et de nos voisins est toujours pr\u00e9sent dans l\u2019esprit et le c\u0153ur de nos membres.
