I first want to acknowledge the dedication our local Defence Team has demonstrated to enable the success of the 2021 NDWCC up to this point. Since early October, our ambassadors and canvassers have been working diligently to reach each and every military and civilian member working in the local region in order to educate you on how and why you should consider donating this campaign season. Further, units have taken the initiative to organize many successful events which have enabled members at Stadacona, Windsor Park\/Willow Park, 12 Wing Shearwater, MARLANT HQ and HMC Dockyard to support the NDWCC in both fun and meaningful ways. I want to thank all who have helped to make these initiatives a success.\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

With each passing month, it\u2019s evident that the realities of COVID-19 continue to challenge Canadians here at home and citizens around the globe, doubly impacting our most vulnerable citizens who were already struggling due to poverty or illness pre-pandemic. For this reason, it\u2019s clear that our Defence community\u2019s support toward the NDWCC is even more vital now than ever.\u00a0<\/span>As we near the end of our campaign, I want to convey the importance of individual giving, either via a one-time donation or through monthly payroll deductions; these individual contributions are \u2013 and always have been \u2013 a key component of a successful campaign. Your donations help to provide safe shelter, nourishing food, and many life-changing opportunities and services to those who need it most here in the Halifax region and across Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, your donation of $25 per pay might provide a daily, healthy breakfast to 10 children during a summer day camp program, or monthly workshops and social activities for 500 newcomers.\u00a0Meanwhile, just $5 per pay might provide educational tool-kits to support individuals who have just been diagnosed with Crohn\u2019s disease or ulcerative colitis. I have no doubt that many of us might spend more (much more, in some cases) on coffee each year!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fighting poverty is not a \u201cone size fits all\u201d solution. Nor is curing acute or chronic illness.<\/span> Every <\/span>individual contribution, no matter how big or small, will bring us one step closer to finding a variety of lasting solutions to poverty and illness. And remember: You can choose to contribute to a charity\/charities of your choice, or simply allow United Way Halifax and HealthPartners to use the funds where they are needed most.<\/span>If you are able, I encourage you to locate your local NDWCC ambassadors and canvassers for more information on how to donate. While ePledge payroll deductions end on November 26, the options to donate through monthly and one-time credit card\/PayPal payments are available until December 31, 2021. Finally, with the end of the campaign drawing near, I ask that you offer patience and compassion when being approached by our NDWCC ambassadors and canvassers. The challenges of this past year have made canvassing very different from years past. Please know that with the help of the United Way and Health Partners, we as a Defence Team are making a positive change within our community. Combining our individual efforts, we can show how we truly are #StrongerTogether.<\/span><\/p>\n

Je tiens tout d\u2019abord \u00e0 saluer le d\u00e9vouement dont a fait preuve notre \u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale pour assurer le bon d\u00e9roulement de la CCMTDN 2021 jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce jour. Depuis le d\u00e9but du mois d\u2019octobre, nos ambassadeurs et nos solliciteurs ont travaill\u00e9 sans rel\u00e2che pour parler \u00e0 chaque militaire et civil travaillant dans la r\u00e9gion des raisons pour lesquelles il ou elle devrait envisager de faire un don pendant cette campagne. De plus, les unit\u00e9s ont pris l\u2019initiative d\u2019organiser de nombreux \u00e9v\u00e9nements qui ont permis aux membres de Stadacona, de Windsor Park\/Willow Park, de la 12<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0Escadre Shearwater, du QG FMAR(A) et de l\u2019arsenal CSM de contribuer \u00e0 la CCMTDN de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 la fois ludique et efficace. Je tiens \u00e0 remercier tous ceux et toutes celles qui ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 faire de ces initiatives un succ\u00e8s.\u00a0 <\/span>

Les mois qui passent continuent de souligner les difficult\u00e9s avec lesquelles doivent composer les Canadiens ici au pays et les citoyens du monde entier en raison de la COVID-19, et ce sont nos citoyens les plus vuln\u00e9rables d\u00e9j\u00e0 en difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 cause de la pauvret\u00e9 ou de la maladie avant la pand\u00e9mie qui en paient doublement le prix. Pour cette raison, l\u2019aide que peut accorder notre communaut\u00e9 de la D\u00e9fense \u00e0 la CCMTDN est encore plus essentielle maintenant que jamais.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alors que nous approchons de la fin de notre campagne, je tiens \u00e0 souligner l\u2019importance des dons individuels sous forme de dons ponctuels ou de retenues salariales mensuelles; ces contributions individuelles sont, et ont toujours \u00e9t\u00e9, un \u00e9l\u00e9ment central de la campagne. Vos dons contribuent \u00e0 fournir un logis s\u00fbr, des aliments nourrissants et des activit\u00e9s et services vitaux pour les personnes dans le besoin dans la r\u00e9gion d\u2019Halifax et dans tout le Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Par exemple, un don de 25\u00a0$ par paie suffit pour que 10\u00a0enfants puissent savourer un d\u00e9jeuner sain dans un camp de jour estival ou pour que 500\u00a0nouveaux arrivants puissent avoir droit \u00e0 des ateliers mensuels et \u00e0 des activit\u00e9s sociales. Cinq petits dollars par paie suffisent pour leur part \u00e0 acheter des trousses informatives pour les personnes chez qui on vient de diagnostiquer la maladie de Crohn ou la colite ulc\u00e9reuse. Je suis persuad\u00e9 que beaucoup d\u2019entre nous d\u00e9pensent plus (beaucoup plus, dans certains cas) en caf\u00e9 chaque ann\u00e9e!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La lutte contre la pauvret\u00e9 n\u2019est pas unidimensionnelle, pas plus que le traitement des maladies aigu\u00ebs ou chroniques. Chaque contribution individuelle, quelle que soit son importance, nous rapprochera un peu plus de solutions durables \u00e0 la pauvret\u00e9 et \u00e0 la maladie. Et n\u2019oubliez pas, vous pouvez choisir de contribuer \u00e0 une ou plus d\u2019une \u0153uvre caritative de votre choix ou simplement permettre \u00e0 Centraide Halifax et PartenaireSant\u00e9 d\u2019utiliser les fonds l\u00e0 o\u00f9 ils sont le plus n\u00e9cessaires.<\/span>Si vous en avez la possibilit\u00e9, je vous invite \u00e0 communiquer avec les ambassadeurs et les solliciteurs locaux de la CCMTDN pour savoir comment faire un don.
