They provide professional advice to military commanders, particularly in the areas of recruiting, selection, leadership, performance appraisal and other human resource issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The primary responsibilities of a Personnel Selection Officer are to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assess applicants to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and recommend training;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recommend CAF members for special training;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support professional development, accreditation and transition programs;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct applied and advanced behavioural research;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct occupational analyses;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teach military leadership, management and behavioural science courses;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Train Military Career Counsellors in interviewing techniques, personnel assessments and counselling techniques;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Write selection policy, design selection instruments, and develop selection assessment processes; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engage in strategic human resource concept design, planning and coordination.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Base Personnel Selection Office (BPSO) employees at CFB Halifax remain available by appointment and through e-mail (contact information can be found at the bottom of this article). Unfortunately, some in-person seminars and events, especially those for members transitioning, cannot be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and physical distancing protocols.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Given the substantial number of SCAN and CTW events that have been postponed or cancelled, the Directorate of Transition Services and Policy (DTSP) has created an overview of online services that continue to be available:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1)\u00a0<\/span><b>My Transition Services App<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u2013\u00a0This\u00a0mobile\u00a0application\u00a0can be downloaded to most devices from any major\u00a0App Store. It contains direct links to transitioning resources and tools like retirement financial planners, career planning resources, MNET, MySET, and useful checklists. To download the app, visit:\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/mobile.html#record00088\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/mobile.html#record00088<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2)\u00a0<\/span><b>SCAN Online<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u2013\u00a0This tool\u00a0houses a curated collection of online presentations on major SCAN topics in the form videos with accompanying voiceovers and scripts. The videos and scripts can be easily downloaded\u00a0for offline use, and most presentations have links to further resources embedded in the \u2018Related Information\u2019 section. This modularized training is mandatory for all members with a date of release (DOR). Transitioning members may select the stream that is most applicable to them &#8211; General, Medical, Executive, or Executive Medical. ETT is currently considered essential only for members with a DOR.
