{"id":2038,"date":"2018-04-20T09:00:42","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T12:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tridentnewspaper.com\/?p=2038"},"modified":"2018-04-20T10:06:31","modified_gmt":"2018-04-20T13:06:31","slug":"hmcs-vancouver-slips-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tridentnewspaper.com\/fr\/hmcs-vancouver-slips-asia\/","title":{"rendered":"HMCS Vancouver slips for Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2039\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2039\" style=\"width: 4325px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2039\" src=\"https:\/\/tridentnewspaper.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/HMCS-Vancouver.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4325\" height=\"2884\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2039\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RAdm Art McDonald takes the salute as HMCS Vancouver departs CFB Esquimalt en route to Operation PROJECTION Indo-Asia Pacific.<br \/>Photo: MARPAC PA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">HMCS Vancouver slips for Asia<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">By Lt(N) Tony Wright,<br \/>\nLe NCSM <i>Vancouver <\/i>PAO<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After a long Easter weekend with family and friends, HMCS <i>Vancouver<\/i> and crew deployed for Operation PROJECTION Indo-Asia Pacific.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is a three-month patrol in the Western Pacific that will be followed by <i>Vancouver\u2019s<\/i> participation in the 2018 Rim of the Pacific exercise (RIMPAC), the world\u2019s largest naval exercise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Vancouver<\/i> will visit Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and Fiji in order to demonstrate Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) operational capabilities, and the flexibility to contribute to a range of requirements: support to international missions, strengthening relationships with allies and partners, and responding to humanitarian or security related incidents in the Indo-Asia Pacific, if required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The mission will also demonstrate the CAF\u2019s ability to project naval influence and support Government of Canada objectives in this region. Canada is a Pacific nation and Op PROJECTION Indo-Asia Pacific is another example of Canada\u2019s commitment to support stability in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe RCN offers options to government to effectively engage in parts of the world where our country has economic and security interests, and we are a very flexible resource,\u201d<i> <\/i>says Cdr Christopher Nucci, <i>Vancouver\u2019s<\/i> Commanding Officer. \u201cAs <i>Vancouver<\/i> has experienced first-hand in the past, although ships set sail expecting to complete a certain set of tasks, we can end up doing something completely different within our spectrum of capabilities if the need arises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 2016, <i>Vancouver<\/i> deployed to the Western Pacific and was scheduled to participate in the Royal New Zealand Navy\u2019s (RNZN) fleet review. That port visit quickly turned into a humanitarian mission after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Kaikoura region. A task group that included units from Australia, Canada, and the United States contributed to the humanitarian relief effort for the people of New Zealand hit hardest by the powerful earthquake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis crew is ready to go,\u201d says Cdr Nucci. \u201cWe are excited to represent Canada and to meet and work with other nations to promote peace and security in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Following the Op PROJECTION deployment and RIMPAC exercise participation, <i>Vancouver<\/i> is scheduled to return to Canada in August.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HMCS Vancouver slips for Asia By Lt(N) Tony Wright, HMCS Vancouver PAO After a long Easter weekend with family and friends, HMCS Vancouver and crew deployed for Operation PROJECTION Indo-Asia Pacific.
