So for SLt Lassina Traor\u00e9, a member of the National Navy of the Ivory Coast, to spend five weeks sailing with the RCN to West Africa is a pretty big deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI am most likely the one person who traveled the most nautical miles in my navy,\u201d said SLt Traor\u00e9 upon conclusion of his time with HMCS<i> Summerside<\/i>. \u201cIt was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to sail on a Canadian warship and, most of all, crossing the Atlantic Ocean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As part of Op PROJECTION West Africa, the RCN offered spaces for two exchange officers from Africa on each ship, HMCS <i>Kingston<\/i> en <i>Summerside<\/i>. One was SLt Traor\u00e9, and the other an exchange officer from the Ghana Navy. SLt Traor\u00e9 was selected among all the junior officers of the National Navy of the Ivory Coast to participate in this exchange.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">His adventure began in Halifax mid-January, one week prior to their departure for Op PROJECTION. While in Halifax, he met the Command Teams and crews of both ships, as well as Commodore Craig Skjerpen, Commander Canadian Fleet Atlantic, who welcomed him to the fleet. The junior officers also showed him around Halifax to experience traditional Maritime hospitality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">During the deployment, SLt Traor\u00e9 stood watches and participated in ship evolutions. \u201cHe participated in multiple events on board, including our small arms shoot. When we approached his home country, he provided important advice on navigation and pattern of life in the area. We also had some very interesting conversations with him about his home, politics in his country, and about Canada,\u201d said Lt(N) Guillaume Desjardins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cCe fut une occasion pr\u00e9cieuse pour moi d&#8217;acqu\u00e9rir des exp\u00e9riences nouvelles avec vous dans les eaux bleues et les op\u00e9rations c\u00f4ti\u00e8res,\u00a0\u00bb said Slt Traor\u00e9. \u00ab\u00a0J\u2019ai suivi avec beaucoup d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eats les proc\u00e9dures op\u00e9rationnelles de la MRC en mati\u00e8re de navigation, de matelotage, de veille et de leadership avec les navires de classe Kingston.\u00a0Ces exp\u00e9riences seront tr\u00e8s\u00a0 constructives pour moi dans l\u2019exercice de mes fonctions.\u00a0\u00bb <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Back home, SLt Traor\u00e9 is the Executive Officer of coastal defence vessel EMERGENCE P1401, the first out of three coastal defence vessels that the National Navy of the Ivory Coast received in 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cJe saurai faire de meilleurs propositions \u00e0 mes sup\u00e9rieurs sur l\u2019architecture de votre navire, l\u2019organisation des services, l\u2019harmonie entre les membres d\u2019\u00e9quipage que je n\u2019ai cesser d\u2019appr\u00e9cier,\u00a0\u00bb added SLt Traor\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">SLt Traor\u00e9 disembarked in his home country when HMC Ships <i>Kingston<\/i> et <i>Summerside<\/i> arrived in Abidjan on March 4.
