Le navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) Charlottetown est rentr\u00e9 \u00e0 Halifax le 17 ao\u00fbt, marquant ainsi la fin d\u2019un d\u00e9ploiement de plus de six mois dans la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique dans le cadre des op\u00e9rations HORIZON et NEON.<\/p>\n

Le navire avait quitt\u00e9 l\u2019arsenal canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 le 1er f\u00e9vrier. Au cours de ce d\u00e9ploiement, le NCSM Charlottetown a parcouru plus de 45 000 milles marins et fait escale dans 13 ports r\u00e9partis dans 10 pays.<\/p>\n

Il a maintenu un programme charg\u00e9 tout au long de son d\u00e9ploiement, op\u00e9rant aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de navires provenant de 15 nations alli\u00e9es et partenaires dans le cadre de plusieurs exercices multinationaux, notamment KAKADU, BALIKATAN et VALIANT SHIELD.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

S\u2019adressant aux journalistes apr\u00e8s l\u2019accostage, le capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Jonathan Maurice, commandant du NCSM Charlottetown, est revenu sur cette mission couronn\u00e9e de succ\u00e8s.<\/p>\n

\u00ab De mon point de vue, peut-\u00eatre un peu partial, je pense que tout s'est tr\u00e8s bien pass\u00e9. Nous avons repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le Canada \u00e0 l'\u00e9tranger dans la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique, atteint tous nos objectifs, rempli notre mission, et nous sommes tous rentr\u00e9s sains et saufs ici aujourd'hui. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que naviguer dans la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique avait \u00e9t\u00e9 une exp\u00e9rience unique. Les escales dans les ports de la r\u00e9gion ont constitu\u00e9 des moments forts pour son \u00e9quipe de marins de la c\u00f4te Est, qui ont rarement l'occasion de se rendre en Australie ou en Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab C'\u00e9tait la premi\u00e8re fois que je naviguais dans cette r\u00e9gion. Nous avons d\u00e9couvert de nouveaux ports et de nouvelles cultures auxquelles il fallait s'adapter, ce qui est fantastique. Travailler avec nos alli\u00e9s et partenaires sur place, avec lesquels je n'avais pas l'habitude de collaborer, a constitu\u00e9 un d\u00e9fi unique et une exp\u00e9rience que je n'oublierai jamais. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le premier ma\u00eetre de 1re classe (PM 1) Brett Marchand, capitaine d'armes du navire, a salu\u00e9 le moral et la concentration de l'\u00e9quipage tout au long d'un programme en mer long et exigeant.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Cela comporte certes des d\u00e9fis, mais nous avons r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 maintenir l'engagement de l'\u00e9quipage, en lui proposant des activit\u00e9s vari\u00e9es et en lui permettant de se divertir lorsque c'\u00e9tait possible. Nous sommes toutefois rest\u00e9s concentr\u00e9s sur notre objectif, \u00e0 savoir mener \u00e0 bien la mission. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il a ajout\u00e9 que cette longue p\u00e9riode loin de leurs proches avait constitu\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9preuve la plus difficile pour l\u2019\u00e9quipage.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Les familles qui nous manquent, les anniversaires, les f\u00eates et tout le reste \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \u00ab Mais aujourd\u2019hui, cela en vaut vraiment la peine, car nous pouvons r\u00e9unir tout l\u2019\u00e9quipage du navire. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Le navire a \u00e9t\u00e9 accueilli par une foule nombreuse de proches et d\u2019amis qui l\u2019acclamaient \u00e0 son arriv\u00e9e \u00e0 quai.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Je savais que l\u2019accueil serait tr\u00e8s, tr\u00e8s chaleureux \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le PM 1 Marchand.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Karen et John Gilley, tous deux anciens marins, attendaient leur fille, la lieutenant de vaisseau Lacey Gilley, offici\u00e8re charg\u00e9e des syst\u00e8mes d\u2019information de combat \u00e0 bord du Charlottetown.<\/p>\n

\u00ab C'est un moment tr\u00e8s \u00e9mouvant pour eux de rentrer au port d'attache \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Karen Gilley. \u00ab C'est vraiment un \u00e9v\u00e9nement majeur. Nous en sommes tr\u00e8s fiers. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le PM 1 Marchand a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu\u2019il estimait que ce d\u00e9ploiement avait \u00e9t\u00e9 extr\u00eamement enrichissant pour l\u2019\u00e9quipage, qui est rentr\u00e9 avec de nouvelles comp\u00e9tences et une exp\u00e9rience qui lui seront utiles lors de ses futures missions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
