Le vice-amiral (Vam) Angus Topshee a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 Vice-chef d'\u00e9tat-major de la D\u00e9fense apr\u00e8s avoir occup\u00e9 le poste de commandant de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC), au cours d'une p\u00e9riode marqu\u00e9e par la modernisation, l'\u00e9volution des d\u00e9fis mondiaux en mati\u00e8re de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et les engagements op\u00e9rationnels soutenus tant au pays qu'\u00e0 l'\u00e9tranger.<\/p>\n

Le Vam Topshee s'adresse \u00e0 l'\u00e9quipage du NCSM Margaret Brooke lors d'une r\u00e9union publique alors que le navire traverse la baie Maxwell, sur l'\u00cele du Roi-George, en Antarctique, dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration PROJECTION 25-01, le 11 mars 2025.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

En tant que 38e commandant de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC), le vice-amiral Topshee a dirig\u00e9 la Marine pendant une p\u00e9riode de transition tout en continuant de faire progresser les op\u00e9rations dans les r\u00e9gions indopacifique, arctique et euro-atlantique. Sous sa direction, la MRC a maintenu sa contribution aux op\u00e9rations de l\u2019OTAN et \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 maritime internationale, tout en soutenant les objectifs de d\u00e9fense plus larges du Canada dans un environnement mondial de plus en plus complexe. Les efforts visant \u00e0 maintenir et \u00e0 moderniser la flotte ont \u00e9galement progress\u00e9 au cours de son mandat. Ces efforts comprenaient la poursuite des travaux visant \u00e0 mettre en service les navires de patrouille extrac\u00f4tier et de l\u2019Arctique (classe Harry DeWolf), \u00e0 faire avancer le programme des navires de soutien interarm\u00e9es (classe Protecteur) et des destroyers de classe River, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 prolonger la dur\u00e9e de vie op\u00e9rationnelle des fr\u00e9gates de classe Halifax. La MRC a \u00e9galement continu\u00e9 d\u2019explorer ses capacit\u00e9s futures, notamment avec une flotte de sous-marins renouvel\u00e9e et avec la corvette de d\u00e9fense continentale.<\/p>\n

Tout au long de son mandat, le Vam Topshee s'est forg\u00e9 une solide r\u00e9putation gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'attention particuli\u00e8re qu'il portait aux marins, \u00e0 son leadership et \u00e0 la pr\u00e9paration op\u00e9rationnelle dont il faisait preuve. Il n'a cess\u00e9 de souligner que les gens constituent la plus grande force de la Marine, en soutenant des initiatives ax\u00e9es sur le recrutement, le maintien en poste, le mentorat et le changement de culture au sein de l'institution. Alors qu\u2019il prend ses nouvelles fonctions de Vice-chef d\u2019\u00e9tat-major de la D\u00e9fense, le Vam Topshee laisse derri\u00e8re lui un h\u00e9ritage durable au sein de la Marine royale canadienne, marqu\u00e9 par un engagement profond envers les marins, l\u2019excellence op\u00e9rationnelle et l\u2019avenir de l\u2019institution. Avec le navire historique NCSM\u00a0Haida<\/em>\u00a0en toile de fond, la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement aura lieu \u00e0 bord du NCSM\u00a0Star<\/em> \u00e0 Hamilton, en Ontario, le 16 juin. \u00c0 cette occasion, le vice-amiral Dan Charlebois assumera le commandement de la Marine royale canadienne, succ\u00e9dant au vice-amiral Angus Topshee. Le Vam Charlebois apporte \u00e0 ce poste plus de 30 ans d\u2019exp\u00e9rience op\u00e9rationnelle et de leadership, ayant occup\u00e9 divers postes de commandement et d\u2019\u00e9tat-major au sein de la MRC et des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC).
