Le 22 janvier, le Navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM)\u00a0<\/span>William Hall<\/span><\/i>\u00a0a tenu une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement, transf\u00e9rant le commandement du capitaine de fr\u00e9gate (Capf) Scott Kelemen au Capf Jeremy Ruggles. Le commodore Jacob French, commandant de la Flotte canadienne de l\u2019Atlantique, a pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e au Centre culturel noir de Cherry Brook. Le navire porte le nom du ma\u00eetre William Hall, un h\u00e9ros de guerre de la Marine noire, dont les actions en tant que matelot de 2e classe lors de l\u2019op\u00e9ration de secours \u00e0 Lucknow en 1857, durant la R\u00e9bellion indienne, lui ont valu la Croix de Victoria. Hall a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier N\u00e9o-\u00c9cossais \n(le troisi\u00e8me Canadien) et le premier Noir de l'Empire britannique \u00e0 recevoir la Croix de Victoria.<\/span><\/p>\n

L\u2019emplacement a \u00e9t\u00e9 choisi pour honorer l\u2019h\u00e9ritage de William Hall ainsi que les contributions d\u2019autres membres noirs de la Marine canadienne, dont le service a \u00e9t\u00e9 historiquement n\u00e9glig\u00e9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mis en service en 2024, le NCSM<\/span>\u00a0William Hall<\/span><\/i>\u00a0perp\u00e9tue l\u2019h\u00e9ritage de son homonyme et a depuis men\u00e9 plusieurs missions et op\u00e9rations dans l\u2019Atlantique Nord et la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lors de son d\u00e9ploiement \u00e0 la fin du mois de mai 2025 \u00e0 l\u2019appui de l\u2019op\u00e9ration CARIBBE, le NCSM\u00a0<\/span>William Hall\u00a0<\/span><\/i>William Hall a travaill\u00e9 aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d\u2019un d\u00e9tachement d\u2019application de la loi de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re am\u00e9ricaine pour saisir plus de 1 300 kilogrammes de coca\u00efne dans la mer des Cara\u00efbes. Ces actions s\u2019inscrivent dans la contribution continue du Canada aux op\u00e9rations antidrogue renforc\u00e9es men\u00e9es par les \u00c9tats-Unis sous l\u2019\u00e9gide de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es Sud.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En ao\u00fbt 2025, le Capf Kelemen a \u00e9galement dirig\u00e9 le NCSM\u00a0<\/span>William Hall<\/span><\/i>\u00a0dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration NANOOK, qui consistait \u00e0 naviguer vers le nord afin de renforcer la souverainet\u00e9 canadienne dans l\u2019Arctique. Le navire a travers\u00e9 le passage du Nord-Ouest pour se rendre dans la r\u00e9gion de Kivalliq, au Nunavut, et s\u2019est arr\u00eat\u00e9 \u00e0 Coral Harbour et \u00e0 Rankin Inlet, marquant ainsi sa premi\u00e8re visite dans la r\u00e9gion. Au cours du d\u00e9ploiement, l\u2019\u00e9quipage du navire s\u2019est engag\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s des communaut\u00e9s locales, notamment en participant \u00e0 une foire commerciale communautaire. Le Capf Kelemen a \u00e9galement particip\u00e9 \u00e0 une table ronde sur les changements en mati\u00e8re de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 dans l\u2019Arctique, partageant son point de vue sur l\u2019impact de l\u2019\u00e9volution de la dynamique g\u00e9opolitique dans le Nord.<\/span><\/p>\n

La passation de commandement du Capf Kelemen marque une \u00e9tape importante pour le navire et pour la Marine royale canadienne. Le Capf Ruggles commence l\u2019ann\u00e9e en tant que deuxi\u00e8me commandant du quatri\u00e8me navire de patrouille extrac\u00f4tier et de l\u2019Arctique de la flotte de l\u2019Atlantique.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
