Le retour du HMCS St. John\u2019s, un cadeau pour les marins et leurs familles<\/strong><\/h3>\n

L'\u00e9quipage du HMCS St. John's n\u2019\u00e9tait bien que chez soi les F\u00eates, accueilli par sa famille et ses amis lors de son joyeux retour \u00e0 Halifax le 20 d\u00e9cembre.<\/p>\n

Des spectateurs portant de v\u00eatements festifs et brandissant des pancartes sur le th\u00e8me des F\u00eates ont acclam\u00e9 le vaisseau lorsqu\u2019il est venu s\u2019amarrer \u00e0 l\u2019Arsenal canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9. L\u2019atmosph\u00e8re de c\u00e9l\u00e9bration \u00e9tait rehauss\u00e9e par de la musique en direct interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e par des membres de la Musique Stadacona. Le St. John\u2019s est revenu d\u2019un d\u00e9ploiement de cinq mois dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration REASSURANCE, \u00e0 l\u2019appui des efforts de d\u00e9fense et de dissuasion de l\u2019OTAN en Europe.<\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00e9quipage de 241 personnes est parti en juillet et a pass\u00e9 les 120 premiers jours de la mission \u00e0 naviguer en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e avec le 2e Groupe maritime permanent de l\u2019OTAN. En novembre, le vaisseau a \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9 au 1er Groupe maritime permanent de l\u2019OTAN dans l\u2019Atlantique Nord. Pendant son d\u00e9ploiement, le HMCS St. John\u2019s a pris part \u00e0 des exercices et \u00e0 des patrouilles avec les alli\u00e9s de l\u2019OTAN. L\u2019\u00e9quipage a \u00e9galement assist\u00e9 aux c\u00e9r\u00e9monies du jour du Souvenir \u00e0 Beaumont-Hamel et \u00e0 la cr\u00eate de Vimy, en France, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 Passchendaele, en Belgique.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Je n\u2019aurais pas pu r\u00eaver d\u2019un \u00e9quipage plus extraordinaire avec lequel avoir eu l\u2019occasion de naviguer. La flexibilit\u00e9, la t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 et la r\u00e9silience dont tous ces marins ont fait preuve ont \u00e9t\u00e9 exceptionnelles \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le capitaine de fr\u00e9gate (Capf) Jeffrey Anderson, commandant du vaisseau.<\/p>\n

\u00ab J\u2019\u00e9tais enthousiaste \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019arriver, mais je n\u2019\u00e9tais pas pr\u00eat \u00e0 ce que cela se termine. \u00bb Le matelot de 1re classe (Mat 1) Steven Andrews a eu l\u2019honneur de d\u00e9barquer le premier pour embrasser sa femme, affirmant s\u2019\u00eatre senti submerg\u00e9 par l\u2019\u00e9motion du moment. \u00ab Au moment o\u00f9 j\u2019ai pu franchir la coup\u00e9e, toutes les \u00e9motions sont arriv\u00e9es, et j\u2019ai eu les larmes aux yeux en essayant de les retenir. \u00bb<\/p>\n

En serrant sa femme et ses trois jeunes enfants dans ses bras, le Mat 1 Andrews a indiqu\u00e9 qu\u2019apr\u00e8s des mois d\u2019appels vid\u00e9o avec sa famille, il \u00e9tait \u00ab tellement heureux de pouvoir les toucher et les serrer dans ses bras \u00bb, et qu\u2019il avait h\u00e2te de passer du temps de qualit\u00e9 ensemble pendant les F\u00eates.<\/p>\n

La famille Forrester esp\u00e9rait elle aussi simplement profiter de moments pass\u00e9s ensemble.<\/p>\n

Dans un communiqu\u00e9 de presse annon\u00e7ant le retour du navire, la contre-amirale Jos\u00e9e Kurtz, commandante des Forces maritimes de l\u2019Atlantique, a d\u00e9crit le NCSM St. John\u2019s comme un \u00e9l\u00e9ment essentiel pour rassurer les alli\u00e9s europ\u00e9ens quant \u00e0 la solidarit\u00e9 et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat de pr\u00e9paration de l\u2019OTAN.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Cette mission souligne la capacit\u00e9 des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer \u00e0 l'\u00e9tranger des ressources capables de mener de multiples missions.
