Apr\u00e8s avoir annonc\u00e9 en septembre que la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne (GCC) serait int\u00e9gr\u00e9e \u00e0 l'\u00c9quipe de d\u00e9fense du Canada, les dirigeants du minist\u00e8re de la D\u00e9fense nationale et de la GCC se sont r\u00e9unis \u00e0 Dartmouth le 10 octobre pour une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie officielle marquant la transition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab La g\u00e9ographie ne prot\u00e8ge plus le Canada comme autrefois. C'est particuli\u00e8rement vrai dans l'Arctique, o\u00f9 nos adversaires et nos concurrents lorgnent sur la r\u00e9gion \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la g\u00e9n\u00e9rale Jennie Carignan, chef d'\u00e9tat-major de la d\u00e9fense, pour expliquer la raison d'\u00eatre de ce changement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La GCC restera un organisme civil d'op\u00e9rations sp\u00e9ciales jouissant d'une autonomie op\u00e9rationnelle en ce qui concerne ses missions, son personnel et ses moyens, et il n'est pas pr\u00e9vu d'armer le personnel ou les navires de la GCC. Ce changement permettra une coordination plus \u00e9troite entre la GCC et les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC) en cas d'urgence, ainsi que dans des domaines tels que la collecte partag\u00e9e de renseignements en mer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La GCC continuera \u00e9galement \u00e0 remplir les r\u00f4les qui lui sont d\u00e9volus depuis longtemps, notamment en mati\u00e8re de recherche et de sauvetage, d'intervention environnementale, de recherche oc\u00e9anique et d'application de la l\u00e9gislation sur la p\u00eache.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous travaillons avec la Marine et les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes depuis des d\u00e9cennies ; d\u00e9sormais, la collaboration sera transparente \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Mario Pelletier, commissaire de la GCC.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral a d\u00e9crit l'inclusion de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne dans l'\u00c9quipe de d\u00e9fense comme une \u00e9tape importante, soulignant son engagement \u00e0 renforcer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 maritime, \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la coop\u00e9ration inter-agences et \u00e0 maintenir une pr\u00e9sence forte et unifi\u00e9e dans les eaux canadiennes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
