Pourtant, alors que la Marine royale canadienne (MRC) s'appr\u00eate \u00e0 solder les navires, je suis ici en train de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 une carri\u00e8re qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 indissociable de la vie de la classe elle-m\u00eame. Au fil des ans, j'ai eu le privil\u00e8ge de naviguer \u00e0 bord des cinq navires de d\u00e9fense c\u00f4ti\u00e8re (NDC) de classe Kingston, une exp\u00e9rience qui a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 mon service et m'a laiss\u00e9 un profond sentiment d'appartenance \u00e0 leur h\u00e9ritage.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pour moi, la classe Kingston n'a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 une simple plate-forme, elle est devenue une constante. Depuis mes premiers jours en tant que rondier et chef de quart du g\u00e9nie, jusqu'\u00e0 mes nombreuses ann\u00e9es en tant que chef du g\u00e9nie et plus tard \u00e0 l'entra\u00eenement maritime (Atlantique) de la patrouille, j'ai navigu\u00e9 aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de camarades qui partageaient le m\u00eame d\u00e9vouement, le m\u00eame professionnalisme et la m\u00eame fiert\u00e9 dans leur travail. Ensemble, nous avons form\u00e9 des marins, encadr\u00e9 des \u00e9quipages et fait en sorte que ces navires soient pr\u00eats \u00e0 relever les d\u00e9fis qui les attendaient. Chaque succ\u00e8s \u00e9tait le fruit d'un travail d'\u00e9quipe - ing\u00e9nieurs, chefs de quart \u00e0 la passerelle, personnel d'approvisionnement, op\u00e9rateurs de combat et cuisiniers - qui s'effor\u00e7aient ensemble de faire de chaque navire plus que la somme de ses parties.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">La classe Kingston nous a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9s autant que nous l'avons fa\u00e7onn\u00e9e, et l'h\u00e9ritage que nous laissons derri\u00e8re nous est un h\u00e9ritage partag\u00e9, port\u00e9 par chaque marin qui a sign\u00e9 son nom dans le journal de bord d'un navire.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ce qui a commenc\u00e9 comme une mise \u00e0 niveau des navires de la classe Porte des ann\u00e9es 1950 pour la r\u00e9serve navale s'est transform\u00e9 en quelque chose de bien plus grand : une classe de navires qui ont discr\u00e8tement fourni plus que ce qu'on leur demandait. Au fil des d\u00e9cennies, je les ai vus se transformer en v\u00e9ritables atouts op\u00e9rationnels, gagnant une place sur les lignes de front de l'OTAN et naviguant dans certains des environnements les plus exigeants de la plan\u00e8te. Ces navires ont form\u00e9 une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de marins et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 constamment r\u00e9invent\u00e9s pour offrir un service exceptionnel au Canada, preuve que l'ing\u00e9niosit\u00e9 et le d\u00e9vouement peuvent faire na\u00eetre la grandeur, m\u00eame \u00e0 partir des d\u00e9buts les plus modestes.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Mon propre parcours refl\u00e8te cette transformation, et voici quelques d\u00e9ploiements et missions notables. En 1998, le Glace Bay a \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9 de d\u00e9ployer un sonar \u00e0 balayage lat\u00e9ral exp\u00e9rimental pour aider \u00e0 cartographier l'\u00e9pave du vol 111 de Swissair au large de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, soutenant ainsi l'un des plus grands efforts de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration et d'enqu\u00eate de l'histoire du Canada. SUBMITTED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">En 2000, je me suis retrouv\u00e9 une fois de plus \u00e0 bord du Glace Bay, cette fois pour naviguer vers Port Canaveral, en Floride, afin de soutenir l'ancien capitaine de la MRC et astronaute Marc Garneau dans sa derni\u00e8re mission spatiale \u2014 un moment qui a li\u00e9 l'h\u00e9ritage naval et spatial du Canada d'une mani\u00e8re que peu de gens auraient pu imaginer. \u00c0 peine un an plus tard, en 2001, nous \u00e9tions en transit au large de l'\u00c9tat de New York lorsque les attentats terroristes du 11 septembre ont eu lieu. Cela nous a rappel\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re saisissante que le monde dans lequel nous servions pouvait changer en un instant et que la MRC devrait s'adapter en cons\u00e9quence.<\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">D'autres moments ont mis \u00e0 rude \u00e9preuve tant les navires que ceux d'entre nous qui les commandaient. En 2005, le NCSM Shawinigan a affront\u00e9 des vagues de 14 m\u00e8tres au large des A\u00e7ores, une le\u00e7on douloureuse sur la puissance impitoyable de l'Atlantique. En 2014, nous avons pouss\u00e9 vers le nord \u00e0 bord du m\u00eame navire, atteignant 80\u00b0 de latitude et prouvant que les navires de la classe Kingston pouvaient eux aussi tenir leur rang dans l'Arctique. Plus tard, en 2020, je suis retourn\u00e9 \u00e0 Glace Bay et j'ai \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 en Afrique de l'Ouest. Ce voyage m'a laiss\u00e9 une impression durable gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la perspective acquise en voyant comment les gens vivent dans diff\u00e9rentes parties du monde. Ce d\u00e9ploiement a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 marqu\u00e9 par les nouvelles r\u00e9alit\u00e9s li\u00e9es aux op\u00e9rations au d\u00e9but de la pand\u00e9mie de COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Enfin, en 2022, j'ai de nouveau travers\u00e9 l'Atlantique, cette fois dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration Reassurance, au service de l'OTAN, non pas comme plateforme d'entra\u00eenement, mais comme unit\u00e9 op\u00e9rationnelle pleinement int\u00e9gr\u00e9e \u00e0 nos alli\u00e9s. C'\u00e9tait peut-\u00eatre la preuve la plus \u00e9loquente du chemin parcouru par la classe Kingston.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">La classe Kingston est devenue bien plus qu'un simple ensemble d'acier et de syst\u00e8mes ; elle \u00e9tait une source de communaut\u00e9, un terrain d'essai et, pour beaucoup d'entre nous, un foyer. Les navires \u00e9taient importants, mais sans leurs \u00e9quipages, ces \u00e9quipes de marins qui se sont appropri\u00e9 leur mission, ont travaill\u00e9 c\u00f4te \u00e0 c\u00f4te et ont assum\u00e9 la responsabilit\u00e9 de chaque succ\u00e8s, ils n'auraient \u00e9t\u00e9 que des coques flottant sur l'eau. Je navigue \u00e9galement avec les Navires de patrouille extrac\u00f4tier et de l\u2019Arctique (NPEA) de la classe Harry-DeWolf. Ces navires perp\u00e9tuent le m\u00eame esprit d'adaptabilit\u00e9, de travail d'\u00e9quipe et d'excellence tranquille qui d\u00e9finissait les Kingston, tout en assumant de nouveaux r\u00f4les et des missions plus vastes. \u00c0 bien des \u00e9gards, ils h\u00e9ritent non seulement des t\u00e2ches, mais aussi de l'h\u00e9ritage du service et des le\u00e7ons tir\u00e9es de pr\u00e8s de trois d\u00e9cennies de d\u00e9ploiements \u00e0 Kingston.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pour moi, ils repr\u00e9sentent des d\u00e9cennies de service et de propri\u00e9t\u00e9, un h\u00e9ritage que je porterai longtemps apr\u00e8s que leurs couleurs auront \u00e9t\u00e9 abaiss\u00e9es. Alors qu'ils s'appr\u00eatent \u00e0 quitter la flotte, je ne peux que dire ceci : la classe Kingston a d\u00e9pass\u00e9 les attentes, surpass\u00e9 ses d\u00e9tracteurs et ses sceptiques.
