La communaut\u00e9 de l'aviation navale s'est r\u00e9unie \u00e0 la 12e Escadre Shearwater le 9 ao\u00fbt pour un moment unique dans l'histoire de l'escadre, alors que le commandant et l'adjudant-chef de l'escadre ont transmis leurs responsabilit\u00e9s de leadership \u00e0 leurs successeurs lors d'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie combin\u00e9e de passation de commandement et de changement de nomination.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tenu dans le hangar du 423e Escadron d'h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res maritimes, l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement a marqu\u00e9 la transition de la haute direction d'une Escadre qui joue un r\u00f4le essentiel pour l'Aviation royale canadienne (ARC) et la Marine royale canadienne (MRC). Le week-end ayant d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 marqu\u00e9 par d'importants jalons et comm\u00e9morations de l'ARC et de la MRC, l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement a attir\u00e9 des hauts dirigeants des deux services, notamment le commandant de la MRC, le vice-amiral Angus Topshee, et la commandante de l'ARC, la lieutenante-g\u00e9n\u00e9rale Jamie Speiser-Blanchet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La d\u00e9cision de combiner les c\u00e9r\u00e9monies \u00e9tait tout \u00e0 fait appropri\u00e9e, compte tenu du partenariat solide que le commandant sortant, le colonel (Col) David Holmes, et l'adjudant-chef de l'escadre, l'adjudant-chef (Adjuc) Kevin Wezenbeek, ont forg\u00e9 au cours de leur mandat. Les deux dirigeants ont parl\u00e9 du lien qui s'est d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 entre eux, d\u00e9crivant \u00e0 la fois le respect professionnel et l'amiti\u00e9 sinc\u00e8re, tout en r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant \u00e0 l'importance de la relation entre le Cmdt et l'Adjuc en tant que fondement du leadership dans toute Escadre de l'ARC.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L'esprit d\u2019\u00e9quipage a \u00e9t\u00e9 un th\u00e8me central tout au long de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie. L'Adjuc Wezenbeek a soulign\u00e9 que les initiatives ax\u00e9es sur les personnes, comme le Programme d'innovation de la 12e Escadre et le Conseil consultatif des membres juniors, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 l'origine de certains des moments les plus significatifs de sa nomination.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il sera bient\u00f4t commissionn\u00e9 comme officier de l'ARC et assumera un nouveau r\u00f4le au sein de la 12e Escadre, alors que l'Adjuc James McCarron deviendra le nouvel Adjuc de l'Escadre.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L'Adjuc McCarron arrive \u00e0 Shearwater apr\u00e8s avoir r\u00e9cemment occup\u00e9 le poste de chef de formation pour l'\u00e9l\u00e9ment canadien du NORAD \u00e0 Colorado Springs. Il a remerci\u00e9 ses mentors et ses coll\u00e8gues pour le soutien qu'ils lui ont apport\u00e9 tout au long de sa carri\u00e8re, ce qui l'a conduit \u00e0 un r\u00f4le o\u00f9 il esp\u00e8re maintenant favoriser l'innovation et l'inclusion au sein de l'escadre.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 \u00e0 la rel\u00e8ve officielle des chefs d'escadre, le Col Holmes a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 les succ\u00e8s et les d\u00e9fis qui ont marqu\u00e9 sa p\u00e9riode de commandement de la 12e Escadre. Il a soulign\u00e9 l'incertitude entourant le CH-148 Cyclone apr\u00e8s que les h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 temporairement clou\u00e9s au sol au d\u00e9but de l'ann\u00e9e, mais il a \u00e9galement f\u00e9licit\u00e9 son \u00e9quipe pour avoir re\u00e7u avec succ\u00e8s certains des derniers nouveaux Cyclones, pour avoir renforc\u00e9 les capacit\u00e9s et pour avoir efficacement fourni des \u00e9quipages et des techniciens de premi\u00e8re ligne pour les d\u00e9ploiements.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab J'ai \u00e9t\u00e9 particuli\u00e8rement fier l'automne dernier lorsque les six DETAIRHEL (d\u00e9tachements a\u00e9riens d'h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res) ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s en m\u00eame temps, une premi\u00e8re dans l'\u00e8re du Cyclone. Cela n\u2019a \u00e9t\u00e9 possible que gr\u00e2ce au travail de notre 12e OSS (escadron de soutien op\u00e9rationnel) et de nos \u00e9quipes du QG \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le colonel Holmes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La nouvelle commandante de l'Escadre n'est pas \u00e9trang\u00e8re \u00e0 Shearwater ; la colonelle Tara Willis est de retour \u00e0 la 12e Escadre apr\u00e8s plusieurs affectations et d\u00e9ploiements, notamment en tant qu'officier adjoint aux op\u00e9rations et \u00e0 l'entretien de la 12e Escadre, puis en tant que commandante du 12e Escadron de maintenance a\u00e9rienne. Une grande partie de sa carri\u00e8re a \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9e au soutien des h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res CH-124 Sea King, puis \u00e0 l'introduction des h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res CH-148 Cyclone. Parmi les autres faits saillants de sa carri\u00e8re, mentionnons un d\u00e9ploiement en 2016 en tant qu'officier de liaison militaire aupr\u00e8s de la Mission des Nations unies au Soudan du Sud, et au Mali en 2021 en tant que commandante de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle canadienne de l'op\u00e9ration Pr\u00e9sence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Le monde dans lequel nous vivons est de plus en plus dangereux. L'ordre international fond\u00e9 sur des r\u00e8gles \u00e9tablies est remis en question et nous devons \u00eatre pr\u00eats. L'\u00e9tat de pr\u00e9paration signifie que nous devons toujours \u00eatre pr\u00eats \u00e0 fournir un effet op\u00e9rationnel, de mani\u00e8re s\u00fbre, efficace et sans h\u00e9sitation \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la colonelle Willis \u00e0 la foule r\u00e9unie dans le hangar, peu apr\u00e8s avoir officiellement pris le commandement. Elle a ajout\u00e9 qu'elle s'engageait \u00e0 combler les lacunes en mati\u00e8re de capacit\u00e9 et de disponibilit\u00e9, tout en demandant \u00e0 son \u00e9quipe de tirer le meilleur parti des outils dont elle dispose actuellement.<\/span><\/p>\n
