Le navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) William Hall se dirige vers le nord alors que les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC) se d\u00e9ploient dans l\u2019Arctique par voie terrestre, a\u00e9rienne et maritime afin d\u2019affirmer la souverainet\u00e9 du Canada dans la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n

Le William Hall a quitt\u00e9 la base des Forces canadiennes (BFC) Halifax le 18 ao\u00fbt pour un d\u00e9ploiement de deux mois dans l\u2019Arctique dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration Nanook, qui comprendra une travers\u00e9e du passage du Nord-Ouest.<\/p>\n

L\u2019op\u00e9ration Nanook est une mission annuelle visant \u00e0 assurer une pr\u00e9sence visible des FAC dans l\u2019Arctique et \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer la capacit\u00e9 du Canada \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre aux urgences et aux menaces \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Elle se d\u00e9roule chaque ann\u00e9e au Yukon, dans les Territoires du Nord-Ouest, au Nunavut et au Labrador, avec la participation de tous les \u00e9l\u00e9ments des FAC.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le William Hall op\u00e9rera aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne et de navires des marines alli\u00e9es, notamment ceux de la France, de l\u2019Allemagne et du Danemark. Le navire se rendra \u00e9galement \u00e0 Rankin Inlet dans le cadre d\u2019un effort continu visant \u00e0 renforcer les relations des FAC avec les peuples autochtones de la r\u00e9gion. En 2024, le NCSM William Hall a \u00e9t\u00e9 affili\u00e9 \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion de Kivalliq de l\u2019Inuit Nunangat lors d\u2019une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie \u00e0 Rankin Inlet.<\/p>\n

\u00ab La mission du NCSM William Hall comprendra plusieurs phases. La premi\u00e8re sera l\u2019interop\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 militaire, le renforcement des relations avec les nations alli\u00e9es et les autres agences du gouvernement du Canada qui op\u00e8rent dans le Grand Nord. La seconde sera la coop\u00e9ration avec les gardes-c\u00f4tes canadiens et la r\u00e9alisation de patrouilles de surveillance et de connaissance de la situation dans la r\u00e9gion. Enfin, le navire s\u2019attachera \u00e0 \u00e9tablir des liens avec la r\u00e9gion \u00e0 laquelle il est affili\u00e9 \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le commandant du William Hall, le capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Scott Kelemen.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Le William Hall renforcera notre pr\u00e9sence dans le Nord, am\u00e9liorera l\u2019interop\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 avec nos alli\u00e9s et favorisera un engagement concret avec les communaut\u00e9s autochtones du Nord. Cette mission refl\u00e8te notre responsabilit\u00e9 de d\u00e9fendre la souverainet\u00e9, la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la collaboration dans l\u2019une des r\u00e9gions les plus strat\u00e9giques de notre pays. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Bien que le NCSM William Hall soit le dernier patrouilleur extrac\u00f4tier et arctique de la MRC \u00e0 effectuer le voyage nordique, il n\u2019est qu\u2019un \u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u2019un effort beaucoup plus vaste des FAC dans la r\u00e9gion cet \u00e9t\u00e9 et cet automne.<\/p>\n

Dans l\u2019Arctique de l\u2019Ouest, le NCSM Regina, le NCSM Max Bernays et le navire \u00e0 moteur Ast\u00e9rix ont quitt\u00e9 Esquimalt dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration Latitude, en collaboration avec les forces am\u00e9ricaines sur le th\u00e9\u00e2tre de l\u2019Alaska et avec l\u2019appui des avions CP-140 Aurora et CC-150 Polaris de l\u2019Aviation royale canadienne (ARC). Leur d\u00e9ploiement comprendra une participation \u00e0 l\u2019exercice Northern Edge 25 dirig\u00e9 par les \u00c9tats-Unis. D\u2019autres activit\u00e9s comprennent des patrouilles dans le nord de l\u2019Arctique par des Rangers canadiens aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de membres du 2e Bataillon, Princess Patricia\u2019s Canadian Light Infantry, avec le soutien de l\u2019ARC.<\/p>\n

La MRC, l\u2019ARC, la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne, l\u2019Arm\u00e9e canadienne et le Commandement des op\u00e9rations sp\u00e9ciales des Forces canadiennes ont tous engag\u00e9 des moyens et du personnel pour participer \u00e0 des op\u00e9rations et \u00e0 des exercices dans l\u2019Arctique cet automne et cet \u00e9t\u00e9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La Chef d\u2019\u00e9tat-major de la D\u00e9fense, la g\u00e9n\u00e9rale Jennie Carignan, a soulign\u00e9 dans un communiqu\u00e9 de presse du 10 ao\u00fbt que le maintien d\u2019une pr\u00e9sence continue dans l\u2019Arctique est essentiel pour dissuader les menaces potentielles et d\u00e9fendre la souverainet\u00e9 du Canada. En am\u00e9liorant la connaissance de la situation dans le Nord, les FAC s\u2019assurent d\u2019\u00eatre toujours pr\u00eates \u00e0 d\u00e9fendre le Canada et l\u2019ensemble du continent nord-am\u00e9ricain, a-t-elle ajout\u00e9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
