Pour souligner le 75e anniversaire de la participation des forces terrestres, navales et a\u00e9riennes du Canada \u00e0 la guerre de Cor\u00e9e, ainsi que la signature de la convention d'armistice du 27 juillet 1953, la section de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse de l'Association navale du Canada (NSANC) et l'Institut royal des services unis de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse (RUSI(NS)) ont organis\u00e9 conjointement une r\u00e9ception en l'honneur des anciens combattants de la guerre de Cor\u00e9e, au mess des officiers du parc de l'Artillerie royale, le 16 juillet dernier.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Un certain nombre d'anciens combattants cor\u00e9ens r\u00e9sidant dans la r\u00e9gion d'Halifax et de Dartmouth ont \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9s, dont plusieurs vivant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9difice comm\u00e9moratif des anciens combattants de Camp Hill. Ceux qui \u00e9taient en mesure de se d\u00e9placer ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transport\u00e9s jusqu'au lieu du rassemblement. \u00c2g\u00e9s de 93 \u00e0 105 ans, ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 accueillis par le vice-amiral (\u00e0 la retraite) Duncan (Dusty) Miller, pr\u00e9sident du RUSI(NS), et le commodore (\u00e0 la retraite) Bruce Belliveau, pr\u00e9sident du NSANC.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le capitaine de vaisseau (\u00e0 la retraite) Tony Goode, directeur du RUSI(NS) et du NSANC, a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 les anciens combattants pr\u00e9sents et d\u00e9crit leur service en Cor\u00e9e. Le groupe comprenait : Elias Gaudet, du 3e R\u00e9giment de cavalerie canadienne (blind\u00e9)\u202f; Allen Hopkins, du Corps des transmissions\u202f; Reginald Borden et Harold Munro, du Royal Canadian Regiment\u202f; Graham McBride, NCSM Iroquois et NCSM Haida\u202f; Tom Estabrooks, NCSM Haida, et Ronald Prime, NCSM Iroquois.<\/p>\n

Heather Ryman, au nom d'Anciens Combattants Canada, a remerci\u00e9 les anciens combattants pour leur service. Joanne Geddes, vice-pr\u00e9sidente de la L\u00e9gion royale canadienne, commandement de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse et du Nunavut, a transmis les salutations des membres de la L\u00e9gion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Vam (\u00e0 la retraite) Miller a rappel\u00e9 \u00e0 l'assembl\u00e9e l'importante contribution terrestre, maritime et a\u00e9rienne du Canada \u00e0 la force multinationale des Nations Unies charg\u00e9e de d\u00e9fendre la Cor\u00e9e du Sud contre l'invasion des forces nord-cor\u00e9ennes et chinoises. Cela comprenait la r\u00e9sistance h\u00e9ro\u00efque de l'Arm\u00e9e canadienne lors de la bataille cruciale de Kapyong en avril 1951, ainsi que les bombardements c\u00f4tiers efficaces men\u00e9s par les navires de la Marine royale canadienne, qui ont mis hors service des voies ferr\u00e9es, des tunnels et des trains de ravitaillement.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Cmdre (\u00e0 la retraite) Belliveau a rappel\u00e9 que 27 000 Canadiens ont servi en Cor\u00e9e dans les ann\u00e9es 1950, subissant 516 pertes et plus de 1 500 bless\u00e9s. \u00ab\u202fNous ne devons jamais oublier leur service et leur sacrifice\u202f\u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours de l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement, le Cmdre (\u00e0 la retraite) Belliveau a \u00e9galement annonc\u00e9 que deux des anciens combattants pr\u00e9sents, Graham McBride et Tom Estabrooks, avaient re\u00e7u une bourse du Fonds de dotation de l'Association navale du Canada pour leur projet de comm\u00e9moration du 75e anniversaire de la guerre de Cor\u00e9e.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
