Le navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) Margaret Brooke est rentr\u00e9 \u00e0 Halifax apr\u00e8s un d\u00e9ploiement historique de 119 jours en Am\u00e9rique du Sud, en Antarctique et dans les Cara\u00efbes dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration Projection, la mission permanente de pr\u00e9sence navale avanc\u00e9e du Canada visant \u00e0 promouvoir la paix, la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la coop\u00e9ration internationale.<\/p>\n

Parti d\u00e9but janvier, le navire est devenu le premier b\u00e2timent de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC) \u00e0 naviguer vers l'Antarctique, o\u00f9 il a soutenu la premi\u00e8re exp\u00e9dition de recherche scientifique enti\u00e8rement canadienne dans la r\u00e9gion. Aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de scientifiques de Ressources naturelles Canada, P\u00eaches et des Oc\u00e9ans Canada et d'Environnement et Changement climatique Canada, l'\u00e9quipage du navire a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 des recherches g\u00e9oscientifiques marines et c\u00f4ti\u00e8res essentielles visant \u00e0 mieux comprendre les effets du changement climatique.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab L\u2019\u00e9quipage du NCSM Margaret Brooke a accompli ce qui est sans doute la mission de sa carri\u00e8re, faisant progresser la recherche en Antarctique et renfor\u00e7ant l\u2019engagement du Canada en faveur de la paix et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 internationales \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la commandante du navire, la capitaine de fr\u00e9gate (Capf) Teri Share.<\/p>\n

Au cours du d\u00e9ploiement, le Margaret Brooke a parcouru plus de 20 500 milles nautiques, a visit\u00e9 neuf ports en Am\u00e9rique du Sud et dans les Cara\u00efbes, et a apport\u00e9 son soutien \u00e0 trois stations de recherche en Antarctique. Les visites de ports et les engagements de sensibilisation, men\u00e9s en \u00e9troite coordination avec Affaires mondiales Canada, visaient \u00e0 renforcer les liens du Canada avec les partenaires r\u00e9gionaux et \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer une pr\u00e9sence navale canadienne renouvel\u00e9e dans les zones d'op\u00e9rations o\u00f9 la MRC n'est pas r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement pr\u00e9sente.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Non seulement nous avons pu effectuer tous ces travaux scientifiques extraordinaires dans le Sud et en Antarctique \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la Capf Share, \u201cmais les relations que nous avons pu \u00e9tablir avec les pays d'Am\u00e9rique latine, au sud et au nord, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 ph\u00e9nom\u00e9nales. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration Projection, les navires de la MRC se d\u00e9ploient r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement dans le monde entier pour s'engager aupr\u00e8s d'alli\u00e9s et de partenaires internationaux, mener des formations et soutenir les objectifs de la politique \u00e9trang\u00e8re du Canada. Cette mission particuli\u00e8re m\u00ealait science, diplomatie et excellence op\u00e9rationnelle dans le but de mettre en valeur la polyvalence de la MRC sur la sc\u00e8ne internationale.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
