Cette ann\u00e9e, lors du dimanche de la bataille de l'Atlantique (le 4 mai 2025), nous avons soulign\u00e9 le 80e anniversaire de la fin de la bataille de l'Atlantique. Nous \u00e9tions nombreux \u00e0 nous rassembler au parc Point Pleasant pour la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie comm\u00e9morative annuelle. Ce fut un moment important et \u00e9mouvant pour nous, membres de la Marine royale canadienne et des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes, qui avons rendu hommage \u00e0 ceux qui nous ont pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9s, en particulier les marins et les aviateurs de notre nation, tous ceux qui, \u00e0 bord de grands ou de petits navires, ont brav\u00e9 les p\u00e9rils des profondeurs, et ceux qui, dans les airs, ont affront\u00e9 les dangers du ciel, tous ceux qui ont donn\u00e9 leur vie pour leur souveraine et leur pays, afin que le souvenir de leur d\u00e9vouement demeure \u00e0 jamais un exemple pour nous.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dans le cadre des traditions de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de la Bataille de l'Atlantique, la pri\u00e8re navale est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement r\u00e9cit\u00e9e par l'aum\u00f4nier. La pri\u00e8re navale est probablement la pri\u00e8re la plus connue de la Marine royale canadienne, imm\u00e9diatement reconnaissable par ses premiers mots : \u00ab \u00d4 Dieu \u00e9ternel, toi seul qui as \u00e9tendu les cieux et qui domines la fureur de la mer... \u00bb. C'est une pri\u00e8re que nous partageons avec d'autres marines du Commonwealth, telles que la Royal Navy, la Royal Australian Navy et la Royal New Zealand Navy. Historiquement, cette pri\u00e8re a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9cit\u00e9e lors de divisions, de changements de commandement, de c\u00e9r\u00e9monies comm\u00e9moratives, d'inhumations en mer et \u00e0 de nombreuses autres occasions, y compris lors de ce dernier rassemblement au parc Point Pleasant. Cette importante pri\u00e8re aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crite par Robert Sanderson, \u00e9v\u00eaque de Lincoln (1587-1663). La rubrique prescrivant son usage quotidien dans la Royal Navy est apparue pour la premi\u00e8re fois dans le livre de pri\u00e8res communes en 1662. Il va sans dire que la tradition de la pri\u00e8re navale r\u00e9cit\u00e9e lors des c\u00e9r\u00e9monies navales est une tradition de longue date qui se perp\u00e9tue encore aujourd'hui. Bien que la pri\u00e8re navale soit issue d'une tradition chr\u00e9tienne, elle c\u00f4toie les nombreuses fa\u00e7ons dont les marins de toutes confessions, ou sans confession, cherchent force, sens et paix dans leur service.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Depuis sa cr\u00e9ation, notre marine a toujours accord\u00e9 une grande importance \u00e0 la pri\u00e8re, en mer comme \u00e0 terre. Le fanion eccl\u00e9siastique a lui aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u pour perp\u00e9tuer cette tradition en mer. La vie en mer n'est pas toujours facile. L'oc\u00e9an peut \u00eatre un endroit dangereux et impitoyable, et m\u00eame les meilleurs marins ont perdu la vie dans les profondeurs. Il est donc essentiel que les marins aient la possibilit\u00e9 de prendre le temps, que ce soit pour prier ou pour r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir, de se souvenir de ceux qui nous ont pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9s et de ceux qui servent actuellement, afin que nous puissions \u00eatre prot\u00e9g\u00e9s du danger et soutenus dans notre service quotidien, afin que nous ayons la r\u00e9silience spirituelle n\u00e9cessaire pour aller de l'avant et retourner chez nous et aupr\u00e8s de nos familles avec reconnaissance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alors que nous r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissons \u00e0 la bataille de l'Atlantique de cette ann\u00e9e, r\u00e9unis en tant que membres d'un grand service, puissions-nous continuer \u00e0 prendre conscience de nos responsabilit\u00e9s les uns envers les autres. Puissions-nous \u00eatre vigilants \u00e0 nos postes et toujours attentifs aux besoins des autres, partageant nos joies et portant leurs fardeaux dans le travail important que nous accomplissons. Et enfin, que la v\u00e9rit\u00e9, la loyaut\u00e9 et la gentillesse r\u00e8gnent parmi nous, et que nous obtenions le succ\u00e8s et la protection contre les dangers de la mer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
