Lutter contre le cancer<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

L'esprit combatif de l'instructeur de jiu-jitsu de la CAF se manifeste alors qu'il pers\u00e9v\u00e8re face aux d\u00e9fis de la sant\u00e9<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Une bataille de dix ans contre le cancer n'est qu'une autre carte dans la carri\u00e8re de combattant du caporal-chef (Cplc) Eric Nevitt. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son amour des arts martiaux, il a trouv\u00e9 la force de lutter contre la maladie - et la volont\u00e9 de partager sa passion - en tant qu'instructeur au club de jiu-jitsu br\u00e9silien de la 12e Escadre Shearwater.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Cplc Nevitt est l'un des trois instructeurs qui donnent b\u00e9n\u00e9volement de leur temps pour enseigner au club ; il y participe depuis 2018.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il se d\u00e9crit comme un combattant de longue date, un \u00ab bagarreur \u00bb qui, enfant, passait une grande partie de son temps \u00e0 se battre avec son fr\u00e8re a\u00een\u00e9. En grandissant, il est devenu fan d'arts martiaux mixtes et un spectateur r\u00e9gulier de l'UFC. En 2009, il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 s'entra\u00eener au Muay Thai et au jiu-jitsu br\u00e9silien.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il s'est rapidement d\u00e9couvert une passion pour ce sport.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Je pense que le jiu-jitsu est l'art martial le plus technique, le plus habile et probablement le plus amusant \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Avant d'\u00eatre affect\u00e9 \u00e0 la 12e Escadre, le Cplc Nevitt a mis ses comp\u00e9tences \u00e0 l'\u00e9preuve dans la Fight League Atlantic, une promotion locale d'arts martiaux mixtes. Il a combattu dans cinq matchs sous le nom d'Eric \u00ab Super Nova \u00bb Nevitt. Il dit qu'il n'a jamais eu l'intention de devenir un combattant professionnel - il voulait simplement se tester et pouvoir se vanter.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En 2015, il s'est retrouv\u00e9 dans un tout autre type de combat. Cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0, on lui a diagnostiqu\u00e9 un cancer des testicules. \u00c0 l'\u00e9poque, il avait quitt\u00e9 le monde de la boxe professionnelle, mais il continuait \u00e0 participer activement \u00e0 des comp\u00e9titions de jiu-jitsu br\u00e9silien. Il dit avoir abord\u00e9 le diagnostic avec le m\u00eame \u00e9tat d'esprit que celui qu'il mettait sur le tatami.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab La mentalit\u00e9 de combattant \u00e9tait vraiment tr\u00e8s famili\u00e8re et pr\u00e9sente. J'ai toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 plut\u00f4t positif... Quand je devais subir des op\u00e9rations et recevoir de mauvaises nouvelles, je les prenais comme un autre combat. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Les op\u00e9rations l'ont contraint \u00e0 plusieurs reprises \u00e0 quitter la comp\u00e9tition, mais il est rest\u00e9 en contact avec ses coll\u00e8gues de lutte. M\u00eame pendant sa convalescence, il a fait ce qu'il pouvait pour rester actif dans le sport.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Chaque fois que je subissais une op\u00e9ration, je r\u00e9cup\u00e9rais pendant environ cinq semaines avant de retourner sur les tatamis. Je ne m'entra\u00eenais pas, mais j'observais les cours et les techniques utilis\u00e9es. M\u00eame si j'\u00e9tais recousu et vo\u00fbt\u00e9, je faisais des exercices de mobilit\u00e9 et des exercices en solitaire dans le coin. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s plusieurs op\u00e9rations, dont une orchidectomie, le caporal-chef Nevitt a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clar\u00e9 gu\u00e9ri du cancer, mais seulement temporairement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En 2017, environ 18 mois plus tard, un suivi de routine a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que le cancer \u00e9tait revenu, cette fois dans les ganglions lymphatiques autour de son abdomen.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pour enlever les sections canc\u00e9reuses, il a subi une op\u00e9ration invasive connue sous le nom de lymphad\u00e9nectomie. L'exp\u00e9rience a \u00e9t\u00e9 difficile et lui a laiss\u00e9 des douleurs chroniques dans le c\u00f4t\u00e9 gauche.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Une fois de plus, il s'est appuy\u00e9 sur son esprit combatif pour s'en sortir.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab C'est la mentalit\u00e9 du combattant... Quand je suis \u00e0 l'h\u00f4pital, j'accroche ma ceinture de jiu-jitsu \u00e0 mon porte-perfusion. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours des ann\u00e9es suivantes, il a retrouv\u00e9 la forme. Il a obtenu sa ceinture noire, a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 enseigner au club de la 12e Escadre et s'est mari\u00e9 en 2023.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Puis, \u00e0 l'\u00e9t\u00e9 2024, le cancer est revenu. Cette fois, le traitement \u00e9tait la chimioth\u00e9rapie. Une fois de plus, il \u00e9tait pr\u00eat.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce n'\u00e9tait pas mon premier rod\u00e9o \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. Cet \u00e9tat d'esprit l'a aid\u00e9 \u00e0 traverser un \u00e9t\u00e9 difficile.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aujourd'hui, le Cplc Nevitt est \u00e0 nouveau en r\u00e9mission. Apr\u00e8s trois diagnostics en dix ans, il reste prudemment optimiste quant \u00e0 l'avenir. Malgr\u00e9 tout, il n'a jamais abandonn\u00e9 le jiu-jitsu br\u00e9silien. Il affirme que l'exp\u00e9rience l'a rendu plus attentif et plus technique, par rapport \u00e0 une concentration ant\u00e9rieure sur la vitesse et l'agressivit\u00e9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il continue \u00e0 redonner \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9 des arts martiaux et officie d\u00e9sormais comme arbitre lors d'\u00e9v\u00e9nements locaux. Lors d'une comp\u00e9tition r\u00e9gionale de grappling des FAC qui s'est tenue \u00e0 Halifax en d\u00e9cembre dernier, il a offici\u00e9 en tant qu'officiel en chef, ce qui lui a valu l'admiration de ses amis et de ses coll\u00e8gues athl\u00e8tes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Son combat a \u00e9t\u00e9 une source d'inspiration pour nous tous \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le matelot de 1re classe Atlas Del Mar, un coll\u00e8gue instructeur du club de jiu-jitsu br\u00e9silien de la 12e Escadre. \u00ab Ce qu'il a travers\u00e9 n'a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 facile, et le voir reprendre l'entra\u00eenement et l'arbitrage a \u00e9t\u00e9 incroyable. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le club de la 12e Escadre continue d'offrir des s\u00e9ances d'entra\u00eenement trois fois par semaine au Centre de conditionnement physique, de sports et de loisirs Shearwater. Pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 l'int\u00e9r\u00eat croissant, les membres du club ont \u00e9galement cr\u00e9\u00e9 une antenne du c\u00f4t\u00e9 d'Halifax. Le club de lutte HERO, dirig\u00e9 par le Mat 1 Del Mar, se r\u00e9unit deux fois par semaine dans la salle de combat au corps \u00e0 corps au troisi\u00e8me \u00e9tage du b\u00e2timent S-120 \u00e0 Stadacona. Comme son homologue de Shearwater, le club HERO est soutenu par les PSP et se concentre sur le d\u00e9veloppement des comp\u00e9tences dans un environnement accueillant.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Cplc Nevitt encourage tous ceux qui sont curieux de d\u00e9couvrir ce sport \u00e0 l'essayer. Il le d\u00e9crit comme un sport difficile avec une courbe d'apprentissage abrupte, mais affirme que les clubs de la 12e Escadre et HERO sont parfaits pour les d\u00e9butants qui souhaitent se lancer dans les sports de combat.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
