Quand le ltv Maxwell Riley s\u2019est enr\u00f4l\u00e9 dans les Forces Arm\u00e9es Canadiennes (FAC), il \u00e9tait loin d\u2019imaginer \u00e0 quel point son travail serait gratifiant. Aujourd\u2019hui, dans son poste d\u2019officier du g\u00e9nie des syst\u00e8mes maritimes \u00e0 bord du NCSM Windsor, ce N\u00e9o-\u00c9cossais se dit ravi de s\u2019\u00eatre joint aux FAC.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Au fil de ma carri\u00e8re, le sentiment d\u2019\u00e9panouissement et la possibilit\u00e9 de faire de l\u2019aide humanitaire m\u2019ont pouss\u00e9 \u00e0 pers\u00e9v\u00e9rer \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le ltv Riley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

N\u00e9 \u00e0 Eastern Passage, en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, le ltv Riley s\u2019est enr\u00f4l\u00e9 dans la R\u00e9serve navale le 4 mai 2010, ann\u00e9e du centenaire de la Marine royale canadienne. Il se souvient que la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d\u2019enr\u00f4lement s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e sur le pont du NCSM Toronto.<\/p>\n

\u00ab \u00c0 mes yeux, c\u2019\u00e9tait une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie grandiose et assez int\u00e9ressante \u00bb, a ajout\u00e9 le ltv Riley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, l\u2019officier de revue, le vice-amiral Paul Maddison, s\u2019est approch\u00e9 de lui et lui a demand\u00e9 pourquoi il s\u2019\u00e9tait enr\u00f4l\u00e9. \u00ab Pour l\u2019argent \u00bb, a-t-il r\u00e9pondu. Son p\u00e8re, le matelot\u2011chef (retrait\u00e9) James Riley, qui \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sent \u00e0 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d\u2019enr\u00f4lement, en \u00e9tait rest\u00e9 sans voix.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Il n\u2019est pas \u00e9tonnant qu\u2019il ait \u00e9t\u00e9 scandalis\u00e9! Je n\u2019avais aucune id\u00e9e de qui il s\u2019agissait, mais mon p\u00e8re, lui, le savait \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le ltv Riley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cependant, peu de temps apr\u00e8s son enr\u00f4lement, le ltv Riley a effectu\u00e9 un transfert de cat\u00e9gorie de service vers la Force r\u00e9guli\u00e8re dans le cadre du Programme de formation des officiers - Force r\u00e9guli\u00e8re, et cette exp\u00e9rience a chang\u00e9 sa vision des choses. Plus il en apprenait sur la culture, le patrimoine et l\u2019histoire, plus le ltv Riley en venait \u00e0 comprendre ce que cela signifiait de faire partie des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Le sentiment d\u2019\u00eatre utile aux gens partout dans le monde, et le sens du devoir et des responsabilit\u00e9s sont les valeurs fondamentales qui me poussent \u00e0 rester dans les FAC \u00bb, a ajout\u00e9 le ltv Riley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, le ltv Riley est toujours pr\u00eat \u00e0 ajouter sa pierre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9difice. Pendant son temps libre, il rend service \u00e0 sa communaut\u00e9 en tant qu\u2019entra\u00eeneur d\u2019une \u00e9quipe de soccer mineur et en se portant volontaire comme pompier. Plus r\u00e9cemment, il s\u2019est lanc\u00e9 dans l\u2019apiculture.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Mon ami, un apiculteur passionn\u00e9, racontait que son voisin avait un pommier qui n\u2019avait pas donn\u00e9 de fruits depuis des ann\u00e9es. Quelques ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s que mon ami a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 pratiquer l\u2019apiculture, le m\u00eame voisin est revenu pour montrer les magnifiques pommes que son arbre avait produites. Augmenter la population d\u2019abeilles en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, aider \u00e0 la pollinisation des jardins, c\u2019est un passe-temps int\u00e9ressant \u00bb, a affirm\u00e9 le ltv Riley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Que va-t-il faire ensuite? Riley a d\u00e9j\u00e0 une id\u00e9e int\u00e9ressante pour l\u2019avenir.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
