LE COMMANDEMENT MARITIME ALLI\u00c9<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

La Marine royale du Canada (MRC) a conclu un autre chapitre de son leadership sur la sc\u00e8ne mondiale, lorsque le Commodore (Cmdre) Matthew Coates a transf\u00e9r\u00e9 le commandement du 2e Groupe de la Force navale permanente de l'OTAN (SNMG2) au Contre-amiral H. \u0130lker Avc\u0131 de la Marine turque. La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement, qui s'est tenue le 3 d\u00e9cembre \u00e0 la base navale d'Aksaz, en Turquie, a marqu\u00e9 la fin d'un commandement qui avait d\u00e9but\u00e9 le 1er juillet, date \u00e0 laquelle le navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) Charlottetown avait \u00e9galement servi de navire amiral du SNMG2.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce fut un honneur de diriger ce groupe distingu\u00e9 \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Cmdre Coates apr\u00e8s la passation du commandement. \u00ab Ensemble, nous avons renforc\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sence maritime de l'OTAN et assur\u00e9 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des eaux de l'Alliance avec professionnalisme et engagement. Je suis convaincu que la mission se d\u00e9veloppera sous la direction de nos alli\u00e9s turcs. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le d\u00e9ploiement a eu lieu pendant une p\u00e9riode instable pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 mondiale, avec la poursuite du conflit en Ukraine et la mont\u00e9e des tensions au Moyen-Orient. Le SNMG2 indique qu'il s'est concentr\u00e9 sur le renforcement de la dissuasion, la surveillance de l'activit\u00e9 navale russe et le maintien de la pr\u00e9sence de l'OTAN en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e orientale et centrale.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tout au long de la mission, le groupe s'est efforc\u00e9 de d\u00e9montrer la solidarit\u00e9 de l'OTAN et de renforcer l'interop\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 entre les pays membres. Les navires membres, dont le NCSM Charlottetown, ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 des exercices majeurs tels que Dynamic Guard, ax\u00e9 sur la guerre \u00e9lectronique et la d\u00e9fense antimissile, et Neptune Strike 24-2, une activit\u00e9 de vigilance multi-domaine.<\/p>\n

Au cours de cette p\u00e9riode, la SNMG2 \u00e9tait compos\u00e9e de navires et de personnel de pays alli\u00e9s et partenaires, dont le Canada, la France, la Gr\u00e8ce, la Turquie et l'Espagne. Des visites portuaires en Gr\u00e8ce, en Italie et en Turquie ont facilit\u00e9 les engagements diplomatiques.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selon la MRC, ce d\u00e9ploiement, qui s'inscrit dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration Reassurance, souligne l'engagement continu du Canada \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard de la d\u00e9fense collective de l'OTAN. Bien que les navires de la MRC contribuent fr\u00e9quemment aux forces navales permanentes de l'OTAN, c'\u00e9tait seulement la deuxi\u00e8me fois que le Canada commandait le SNMG2.<\/p>\n

La contre-amirale Jos\u00e9e Kurtz, commandante des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique et de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique, a fait l'\u00e9loge des r\u00e9alisations du commodore Coates et de l'\u00e9quipage du NCSM Charlottetown: \u00ab L'expertise et le d\u00e9vouement in\u00e9branlable de tous les navires de leur flotte ont jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant dans la d\u00e9termination collective de notre Alliance. \u00c0 la t\u00eate de cinq navires et de 1 100 personnes en permanence, le Cmdre Coates a dirig\u00e9 une \u00e9quipe multinationale pendant une p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 les d\u00e9fis \u00e9taient de plus en plus importants. La mission a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite comme renfor\u00e7ant non seulement le flanc sud-est de l'OTAN, mais aussi comme d\u00e9montrant la capacit\u00e9 du Canada \u00e0 diriger des op\u00e9rations complexes et multinationales.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le SNMG2, l'un des quatre groupes maritimes permanents de l'OTAN, veille \u00e0 ce que l'Alliance reste pr\u00eate \u00e0 mener des op\u00e9rations de routine et \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre aux crises.
