Les membres de l'\u00e9quipage du NCSM Charlottetown ont tenu une petite c\u00e9r\u00e9monie solennelle au cimeti\u00e8re de guerre canadien d'Agira lors d'un r\u00e9cent s\u00e9jour en Italie. Cette initiative a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite comme un moment de r\u00e9flexion et de respect \u00e0 l'approche de la Semaine des v\u00e9t\u00e9rans et du jour du Souvenir.<\/p>\n

Le cimeti\u00e8re d'Agira contient les tombes de 490 Canadiens qui sont morts pendant l'invasion de la Sicile par les Alli\u00e9s au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, \u00e0 l'\u00e9t\u00e9 1943. Agira fut l'une des villes siciliennes prises par les membres de la 1re Division d'infanterie canadienne et de la 1re Brigade de chars d'assaut de l'arm\u00e9e canadienne \u00e0 la fin de juillet, apr\u00e8s des jours de combats difficiles, ce qui contribua \u00e0 la capture compl\u00e8te de la Sicile par les Alli\u00e9s le 17 ao\u00fbt 1943.<\/p>\n
