M\u00eame s\u2019il avait souvent \u00e9cout\u00e9 son p\u00e8re, Roland, lui parler des bienfaits d\u2019une carri\u00e8re dans les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes, l\u2019adjudant Steve Dugas lui r\u00e9pondait toujours que cela ne l\u2019int\u00e9ressait pas.<\/p>\n

Maintenant p\u00e8re de sept enfants, Dugas a beaucoup de v\u00e9cu dans les Forces. Que ce soit un d\u00e9ploiement en Afghanistan, une participation \u00e0 l\u2019exercice RIMPAC pr\u00e8s des iles d\u2019Hawaii, des d\u00e9ploiements en mer et 14 ans de carri\u00e8re, il pense maintenant que s\u2019enr\u00f4ler fut une des meilleures d\u00e9cisions qu\u2019il ait faites.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Quand je communique avec mes amis au civil, ils ont m\u00eame de la mis\u00e8re \u00e0 croire les histoires que je leur raconte, parce que c\u2019est assez exceptionnel comme carri\u00e8re, \u00bb dit Dugas.<\/p>\n

N\u00e9 \u00e0 Happy Valley au Labrador, adjt Dugas n\u2019y passera que tr\u00e8s peu de temps avant que son p\u00e8re, op\u00e9rateur de contr\u00f4le spatial, soit mut\u00e9 en Allemagne, et plus tard en Ontario. Apr\u00e8s, son p\u00e8re pris sa retraite \u00e0 Grande-Anse, au Nouveau-Brunswick, le village natal de sa famille, o\u00f9 Dugas y passera la plus grande partie de sa jeunesse.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Mes parents vivent encore \u00e0 Grande-Anse avec le reste de ma famille. J\u2019aurais voulu y rester, \u00bb avoue Dugas.<\/p>\n

Il finira donc ses \u00e9tudes secondaires et coll\u00e9giales \u00e0 Grande-Anse et trouvera un travail dans une firme en tant qu\u2019agent de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Mais en 2009, il perd son emploi et sa femme lui apprend qu\u2019elle est enceinte. Dugas d\u00e9cide donc de s\u2019enr\u00f4ler comme technicien en gestion du mat\u00e9riel avec la Force a\u00e9rienne, afin de pouvoir subvenir \u00e0 sa famille grandissante.<\/p>\n

Il avait esp\u00e9r\u00e9 rester dans l\u2019est du Canada, mais apr\u00e8s deux ans, il est mut\u00e9 \u00e0 Esquimalt, C.-B.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Lorsqu\u2019ils m\u2019ont annonc\u00e9 que je m\u2019en venais ici, \u00e0 Esquimalt, je ne savais pas ce que c\u2019\u00e9tait. Quand j\u2019ai compris que c\u2019\u00e9tait une base navale, pour \u00eatre honn\u00eate, j\u2019ai pleur\u00e9, \u00bb d\u00e9voile Dugas.<\/p>\n

Il faut dire que la base militaire d\u2019Esquimalt n\u2019\u00e9tait pas son premier choix. Une des causes premi\u00e8res fut sa peur de l\u2019environnement marin et sa crainte du mal de mer. L\u2019id\u00e9e de quitter les Forces lui a m\u00eame travers\u00e9 l\u2019esprit. Cependant, gr\u00e2ce au support de sa femme Magalie, il d\u00e9cide de rester et tombe en amour avec la vie en mer. Cette exp\u00e9rience fut tellement agr\u00e9able qu\u2019il passera la majorit\u00e9 de sa carri\u00e8re dans les bases navales et 10 ans en mer \u00e0 bord des navires.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Mais ma femme m\u2019a convaincu de rester. \u00c7a a \u00e9t\u00e9 les meilleures ann\u00e9es de notre vie. On a absolument ador\u00e9, \u00bb affirme Dugas.<\/p>\n

Avec ses ann\u00e9es d\u2019exp\u00e9rience, Dugas am\u00e8ne une approche unique et un mentorat n\u00e9cessaire au d\u00e9veloppement des troupes, qu\u2019il consid\u00e8re \u00eatre son r\u00f4le primaire.<\/p>\n
