Un cairn r\u00e9cemment \u00e9rig\u00e9 \u00e0 la base des Forces canadiennes (BFC) d'Halifax reconna\u00eet le service et les contributions d'un groupe d'officiers de marine qui ont re\u00e7u leur formation dans les ann\u00e9es 1950 et 1960 et qui ont grandement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la Marine canadienne dans les ann\u00e9es qui ont suivi.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d'inauguration a eu lieu le 14 septembre pour d\u00e9voiler officiellement le nouveau cairn comm\u00e9moratif du NCSM Venture dans la cour du mus\u00e9e naval d'Halifax et du quartier g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la BFC Halifax. Les anciens \u00e9l\u00e8ves, connus sous le nom de \u00ab Venture \u00bb, sont venus de tout le Canada pour marquer l'occasion. Elle est intervenue deux jours seulement apr\u00e8s le 70\u00e8me anniversaire des premiers pas des \u00e9l\u00e8ves de Venture sur la place d'armes de l'\u00e9cole.<\/p>\n

Le NCSM Venture \u00e9tait un \u00e9tablissement de formation d'officiers subalternes de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC) en activit\u00e9 de 1954 \u00e0 1968 \u00e0 l'arsenal d'Esquimalt. Le \u00ab plan Venture \u00bb initial de la MRC a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en place pour rem\u00e9dier \u00e0 la difficult\u00e9 de produire un nombre suffisant d'officiers form\u00e9s - il a \u00e9volu\u00e9 pour devenir le plan des officiers en service court, puis le plan de formation des \u00e9l\u00e8ves-officiers. Au cours de ses 14 ann\u00e9es d'existence, le NCSM Venture a form\u00e9 plus de 500 officiers de la MRC, dont beaucoup ont atteint des grades \u00e9lev\u00e9s et ont constitu\u00e9 une composante importante du corps des officiers de la marine pendant des d\u00e9cennies<\/p>\n

Matt Durnford (Venture, promotion 1965), membre du comit\u00e9 de l'h\u00e9ritage de Venture et premier \u00e0 avoir propos\u00e9 le projet d'h\u00e9ritage de Venture, a prononc\u00e9 le discours d'introduction de la journ\u00e9e. \u00ab Le cairn c\u00e9l\u00e8bre et reconna\u00eet les centaines de jeunes de 17 \u00e0 20 ans qui se sont rencontr\u00e9s pour la premi\u00e8re fois et ont rev\u00eatu l'uniforme naval au NCSM Venture, et qui ont servi le Canada et la Marine avec distinction. \u00bb<\/p>\n

John Cody (Venture, promotion '64) et la contre-amiral Jos\u00e9e Kurtz, commandante des forces maritimes de l'Atlantique et de la force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique, ont \u00e9galement pris la parole lors de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s que le NCSM Venture a cess\u00e9 ses activit\u00e9s en 1968, le nom est rest\u00e9 en usage. Le Centre de formation des officiers de marine Venture a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 1976, et bien qu'il ait \u00e9t\u00e9 absorb\u00e9 par l'\u00c9cole de la flotte (Pacifique) en 2016, le nom a \u00e9t\u00e9 raviv\u00e9 en 2022, et le NCSM Venture est \u00e0 nouveau un \u00e9l\u00e9ment cl\u00e9 du programme de formation de la MRC pour les officiers de guerre navale et les officiers techniques de la marine.<\/p>\n
