La derni\u00e8re pi\u00e8ce d'un partenariat continu entre le Mus\u00e9e naval d'Halifax, le Groupe consultatif de la d\u00e9fense pour les personnes handicap\u00e9es de la r\u00e9gion d'Halifax (GCDPH) et la Fondation INCA a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9voil\u00e9e de fa\u00e7on adorable le 20 septembre, alors que les invit\u00e9s se sont joints \u00e0 l'\u00e9quipe de chiens-guides de l'INCA et \u00e0 leurs apprentis canins \u00e0 la Tour Juno de Halifax.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s la pr\u00e9sentation du nouveau panneau d'exposition du Mus\u00e9e naval intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Halifax, les v\u00e9t\u00e9rans aveugles et la cr\u00e9ation de l'INCA \u00bb, les participants ont \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9s \u00e0 rencontrer un chien-guide en cours de dressage et \u00e0 se faire photographier dans le \u00ab kiosque \u00e0 photos des chiots. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L'exposition elle-m\u00eame pr\u00e9sente des informations sur la cr\u00e9ation de l'INCA (anciennement Institut national canadien pour les aveugles) et sur sept v\u00e9t\u00e9rans de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale qui ont jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 dans la cr\u00e9ation de l'organisation. La n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d'un organisme national sans but lucratif ax\u00e9 sur la perte de vision est apparue apr\u00e8s qu'un grand nombre de soldats sont revenus du front europ\u00e9en avec des blessures qui les ont rendus aveugles ou malvoyants. L'explosion d'Halifax en 1917, qui demeure l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement le plus important de l'histoire du Canada en mati\u00e8re de perte de vision, a \u00e9galement jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le. La toute premi\u00e8re r\u00e9union de l'INCA a d'ailleurs eu lieu le 18 mars 1918.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L'exposition contient \u00e9galement des informations sur l'\u00e9volution de l'INCA au fil des ans, ainsi que sur les programmes et services offerts par l'INCA aujourd'hui \u00e0 Halifax et dans l'ensemble du Canada. Les \u00e9quipes de la GCDPH et du mus\u00e9e ont travaill\u00e9 avec l'archiviste nationale de l'INCA, Jane Beaumont, qui a aid\u00e9 \u00e0 compiler les documents et \u00e0 confirmer la v\u00e9racit\u00e9 de l'histoire de l'INCA.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le matelot de 1re classe (Mat 1) Stephen Happe, copr\u00e9sident militaire local de la GCDPH, et sa partenaire Shelley Adams, qui travaille comme responsable de la d\u00e9fense des int\u00e9r\u00eats de l'INCA pour la r\u00e9gion de l'Atlantique, ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9tablir et \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper le partenariat entre les trois groupes.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce panel est une c\u00e9l\u00e9bration des accomplissements de sept v\u00e9t\u00e9rans canadiens de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, dont certains ont \u00e9t\u00e9 bless\u00e9s et rendus aveugles dans les tranch\u00e9es \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Mat 1 Happe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous esp\u00e9rons que leur histoire inspirera et motivera les marins, les soldats et les anciens combattants d'aujourd'hui et de demain. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Des copies en braille et en gros caract\u00e8res des informations figurant sur le panneau ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 produites en anglais et en fran\u00e7ais et seront mises \u00e0 la disposition des visiteurs du mus\u00e9e naval d'Halifax.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Des pr\u00e9sentoirs r\u00e9partis dans la salle offraient des informations sur les services de l'INCA, des ressources \u00e9ducatives et des \u00e9chantillons d'objets de mus\u00e9e utilis\u00e9s dans des pr\u00e9sentations accessibles r\u00e9centes.

Ce partenariat a \u00e9galement permis de mettre au point des pr\u00e9sentations accessibles sur l'histoire navale impliquant le personnel du mus\u00e9e et des artefacts, qui ont eu lieu au mus\u00e9e naval d'Halifax lui-m\u00eame et sur des sites ext\u00e9rieurs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Toutes les personnes impliqu\u00e9es ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que la direction des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique (FMAR(A)) avait apport\u00e9 un soutien sans faille \u00e0 ces r\u00e9centes initiatives. La contre-amiral Josee Kurtz, commandante des FMAR(A) et de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique, a pris la parole lors de l'inauguration du panneau, et d'autres hauts responsables \u00e9taient pr\u00e9sents.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
