Chaque insigne officiel cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC) est le fruit d'un long travail de recherche et de cr\u00e9ation artistique.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le dernier en date, celui du NCSM Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Rolette (le cinqui\u00e8me navire de patrouille extrac\u00f4tier et de l'Arctique du Canada (NPEA)), a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9cemment achev\u00e9 \u00e0 l'Autorit\u00e9 h\u00e9raldique du Canada (AHC) et comprend divers \u00e9l\u00e9ments inspir\u00e9s du patrimoine militaire canadien.<\/p>\n

\u00ab L'h\u00e9raldique fait appel \u00e0 l'imagination et m\u00eame \u00e0 des cr\u00e9atures imaginaires pour transmettre des histoires complexes et des concepts abstraits \u00bb, explique Bruce Patterson, h\u00e9raut d'armes adjoint du Canada.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Pour le NCSM Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Rolette, les caract\u00e9ristiques personnelles, les ant\u00e9c\u00e9dents et la renomm\u00e9e de son homonyme sont incarn\u00e9s par la simple image d'un lion de mer h\u00e9raldique tenant un sabre \u00bb, poursuit-il.<\/p>\n

N\u00e9 \u00e0 Qu\u00e9bec le 23 septembre 1785, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Rolette est d\u00e9crit comme un marin canadien-fran\u00e7ais audacieux, tenace et courageux, selon les d\u00e9p\u00eaches historiques. Ces descriptions ont profond\u00e9ment inspir\u00e9 l'insigne, notamment le lion de mer et le sabre h\u00e9raldiques.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le sabre de Rolette est actuellement expos\u00e9 au Mus\u00e9e naval de Qu\u00e9bec.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce sabre a \u00e9t\u00e9 offert au Lieutenant Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Rolette de la Marine provinciale en 1815 pour ses exploits et sa bravoure lors la Guerre de 1812 \u00bb, explique Samuel Veni\u00e8re, historien et charg\u00e9 de projet au Mus\u00e9e naval de Qu\u00e9bec.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Peu apr\u00e8s la guerre, un groupe d\u2019amis et autres citoyens ont r\u00e9colt\u00e9 une somme de 50 guin\u00e9es [un monnaie utilis\u00e9e par les colonies britanniques en Am\u00e9rique du Nord \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque] pour lui donner ce sabre particulier, dont la lame en acier fin est richement d\u00e9cor\u00e9e de figures mythologiques et dont le fourreau est fait de cuivre dor\u00e9e incrust\u00e9 de peaux de crocodile \u00bb, ajoute-t-il.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Un processus cr\u00e9atif et collaboratif<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Un insigne principal commence par une demande de la Direction \u2013 Histoire et patrimoine (DHP) envoy\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019AHC, qui est responsable de l'h\u00e9raldique au Canada et qui fait partie du Bureau de la gouverneure g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. Le projet est alors confi\u00e9 \u00e0 un h\u00e9raut qui travaille avec l'unit\u00e9 militaire pour cr\u00e9er un concept. La conception de l'insigne (souvent appel\u00e9 \u00ab \u00e9cusson \u00bb dans la marine) du NCSM Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Rolette a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en mars 2023 et a n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d'importantes recherches, notamment des consultations avec la Marine royale canadienne et les descendants de Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Rolette.<\/p>\n

Un artiste h\u00e9raldique qualifi\u00e9, selon une tradition h\u00e9raldique qui se perp\u00e9tue encore aujourd'hui, peint l'insigne \u00e0 la main. Les derni\u00e8res retouches, comme le lettrage, sont effectu\u00e9es par un calligraphe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chaque insigne est accompagn\u00e9 d'une description compl\u00e9mentaire, appel\u00e9e blason, qui explique le symbolisme en utilisant le langage h\u00e9raldique. Une fois termin\u00e9, chaque insigne est examin\u00e9 par le H\u00e9raut d'armes (AHC) et l'Inspecteur des drapeaux consacr\u00e9s et des insignes des FAC (\u00e0 la DHP) avant d'\u00eatre pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 la gouverneure g\u00e9n\u00e9rale pour approbation officielle.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L'insigne pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent des NPEA, pour le NCSM William Hall, a \u00e9t\u00e9 achev\u00e9 l'\u00e9t\u00e9 dernier et repr\u00e9sente un canon. William Hall est le premier N\u00e9o-\u00c9cossais \u00e0 recevoir la Croix de Victoria et c'est la premi\u00e8re fois dans l'histoire du Canada qu'un navire de guerre est nomm\u00e9 en l'honneur d'une personne d'origine africaine.<\/p>\n
