Des dizaines de marins et d'employ\u00e9s civils ont fait la queue pour d\u00e9jeuner et soutenir l'organisation R\u00eaves d\u2019enfants Canada lors du dernier d'une s\u00e9rie de barbecues de bienfaisance organis\u00e9s par l'\u00e9quipage du NCSM St. John's dans l'Arsenal canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 le 28 juin.<\/p>\n

Les barbecues organis\u00e9s une fois par semaine faisaient partie d'une s\u00e9rie d'activit\u00e9s de collecte de fonds organis\u00e9es par l'\u00e9quipage du St. John's, qui s'est poursuivie avec le relais annuel Run the Rock, du 5 au 17 juillet. Tous les b\u00e9n\u00e9fices sont revers\u00e9s \u00e0 la section de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador de R\u00eaves d'enfants Canada, une organisation caritative qui offre des exp\u00e9riences sp\u00e9ciales aux enfants souffrant d'une maladie grave.<\/p>\n

Le 28 juin, avant le coup d'envoi officiel du relais, l'\u00e9quipage du St. John's avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 r\u00e9colt\u00e9 plus de 50 000 dollars, ce qui est suffisant pour exaucer les v\u0153ux de cinq enfants, selon la matelot de 1re classe (Mat 1) Mary Ellen Ambroziak, l'une des organisatrices b\u00e9n\u00e9voles du navire.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Notre objectif cette ann\u00e9e \u00e9tait de r\u00e9aliser 11 v\u0153ux, ce qui repr\u00e9sente 110 000 dollars \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la Mat 1 Ambroziak. Au 15 juillet, alors qu'il restait encore deux jours, l'\u00e9quipe avait d\u00e9pass\u00e9 cet objectif, avec plus de 123 000 dollars de dons \u00e0 ce jour.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Une \u00e9quipe de 16 marins de St. John 's participe \u00e0 la course Run the Rock de cette ann\u00e9e. Partie de Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse le 4 juillet, l'\u00e9quipe s'est rendue en ferry \u00e0 Terre-Neuve pour entamer une course \u00e0 relais de 12 jours, de Port Aux Basques \u00e0 St. John's, avec de nombreux arr\u00eats en cours de route. Tout en courant, l'\u00e9quipe sollicite des dons et sensibilise les communaut\u00e9s qu'elle visite \u00e0 la cause de R\u00eaves d\u2019enfants.<\/p>\n

Pendant le relais, chaque membre de l'\u00e9quipe alterne entre la course et la collecte de dons. La Mat 1 Ambroziak explique que le groupe compte \u00e0 la fois des coureurs performants et des solliciteurs efficaces.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous jouons tous sur nos points forts. Nous avons beaucoup de gens de Terre-Neuve qui participent \u00e0 l'\u00e9quipe et qui ont beaucoup de famille, mais ils font passer le mot et nous avons un soutien vraiment solide de la part de la communaut\u00e9. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2024 marque le 29e anniversaire de Run the Rock. Selon la Mat 1 Ambroziak, le partenariat de longue date entre le NCSM St. Johns et R\u00eaves d'enfants Canada a permis de recueillir environ deux millions de dollars, soit 200 v\u0153ux, depuis ses d\u00e9buts.<\/p>\n
