Le contre-amiral Yannick Bossu, de la marine fran\u00e7aise, a transmis le commandement du 2e groupe maritime permanent de l'OTAN (SNMG2) au commodore (Cmdre) Matthew Coates, de la marine royale canadienne, lors d'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie qui s'est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e le 1er juillet \u00e0 bord du FS Somme, qui \u00e9tait alors le navire amiral du SNMG2.<\/p>\n

Le commandant en second du Commandement maritime alli\u00e9 de l'OTAN (MARCOM), le vice-amiral d'escadre de la marine fran\u00e7aise Didier Maleterre, a pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

C'\u00e9tait la premi\u00e8re fois que la France commandait le SNMG2, bien que des navires fran\u00e7ais aient souvent servi dans les forces navales permanentes de l'OTAN, ce qui t\u00e9moigne de l'engagement de la France en faveur de la d\u00e9fense des int\u00e9r\u00eats vitaux de l'Alliance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce fut un privil\u00e8ge et un honneur de servir en tant que commandant du SNMG2 \u00bb , a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le contre-amiral Bossu. \u00ab Ce commandement en mer, le premier pour la France, a \u00e9t\u00e9 une exp\u00e9rience tr\u00e8s enrichissante, tant sur le plan professionnel que personnel. Je le dois en grande partie \u00e0 l'\u00e9norme travail et au d\u00e9vouement des personnes avec lesquelles j'ai eu le plaisir de travailler ; mon personnel pour son travail d'\u00e9quipe et sa loyaut\u00e9, les commandants et les \u00e9quipages des navires de combat de surface qui ont int\u00e9gr\u00e9 la SNMG2 pour leur esprit de guerre, et le personnel du quartier g\u00e9n\u00e9ral MARCOM pour son soutien ind\u00e9fectible. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La passation des pouvoirs a marqu\u00e9 la fin d'un d\u00e9ploiement de trois mois pour le SNMG2 en p\u00e9riode de volatilit\u00e9, avec la guerre en Ukraine, les tensions croissantes au Moyen-Orient et la crise des Houthis en mer Rouge. Du 5 avril au 1er juillet, le Task Group a effectu\u00e9 sa mission en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e orientale et centrale.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours de cette mission, le SNMG2 a fait preuve de solidarit\u00e9 et a renforc\u00e9 l'interop\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 avec les partenaires et les alli\u00e9s, sa pr\u00e9sence contribuant \u00e0 la stabilit\u00e9 du flanc sud-est de l'Alliance. En outre, la FS Somme a apport\u00e9 un soutien logistique pr\u00e9cieux aux unit\u00e9s alli\u00e9es, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 de nombreux r\u00e9approvisionnements en mer. Le SNMG2 a \u00e9galement assur\u00e9 une surveillance pr\u00e9cise des activit\u00e9s russes en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dans le cadre du d\u00e9ploiement fran\u00e7ais, la fr\u00e9gate hell\u00e9nique Themistocles et la fr\u00e9gate turque Yavuz ont servi dans le SNMG2 pendant plusieurs semaines. Le groupe a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 l'exercice de vigilance renforc\u00e9e multi-domaine Neptune Strike 24-1 et \u00e0 un exercice de d\u00e9fense a\u00e9rienne de l'OTAN. Le SNMG2 a \u00e9galement collabor\u00e9 \u00e0 de nombreuses reprises avec la 6e flotte am\u00e9ricaine ainsi qu'avec des unit\u00e9s fran\u00e7aises, grecques, italiennes et espagnoles sous contr\u00f4le op\u00e9rationnel national. Il a \u00e9galement escort\u00e9 le porte-avions am\u00e9ricain USS Dwight Eisenhower lors de son court s\u00e9jour en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

D\u00e9but juin, le SNMG2 a patrouill\u00e9 avec le groupe a\u00e9ronaval italien vers le canal de Suez pendant plusieurs jours. Cette mission a \u00e9t\u00e9 l'occasion de mener un certain nombre d'activit\u00e9s de coop\u00e9ration op\u00e9rationnelle entre navires de l'OTAN, notamment des man\u0153uvres d'h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res, des \u00e9volutions tactiques, des exercices de lutte anti-sous-marine, anti-a\u00e9rienne et m\u00eame de guerre multi-domaine avec des navires grecs dans le cadre d'un exercice national au large de la Cr\u00e8te.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dans un communiqu\u00e9 de presse, le Cmdre Coates s'est dit tr\u00e8s honor\u00e9 de prendre le commandement du SNMG2. Le navire amiral du groupe op\u00e9rationnel sous commandement canadien sera le NCSM Charlottetown<\/p>\n
