Le nouveau commandant de la Flotte canadienne de l'Atlantique a officiellement pris les r\u00eanes lors d'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie \u00e0 bord du Navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) Margaret Brooke le 28 juin.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Commodore (Cmdre) Jacob French entre en fonction au cours d'une p\u00e9riode charg\u00e9e pour les navires de la c\u00f4te Est, qui ne montre aucun signe de ralentissement, et alors que la flotte travaille \u00e0 l'introduction compl\u00e8te des navires de la classe Harry-DeWolf tout en planifiant les futurs navires de combat de surface canadiens.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Les responsabilit\u00e9s li\u00e9es \u00e0 ce poste sont vastes et dynamiques, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la contre-amiral Jos\u00e9e Kurtz, Commandante des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique et de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique, qui a pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 la passation de commandement. Les journ\u00e9es du Cmdre French consisteront \u00e0 optimiser les programmes des navires en mer et \u00e0 quai, tout en restant concentr\u00e9 sur le bien-\u00eatre des marins face \u00e0 la p\u00e9nurie de main-d'\u0153uvre et aux exigences croissantes en mati\u00e8re de maintenance associ\u00e9es \u00e0 une flotte vieillissante en transition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Je ne doute pas que le Cmdre French s'appuiera sur ses ann\u00e9es d'exp\u00e9rience, qu'il examinera les probl\u00e8mes avec son propre regard, qu'il s'appuiera sur l'\u00e9quipe et qu'il accueillera favorablement ses id\u00e9es et ses recommandations \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la Cam Kurtz.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Cmdre French succ\u00e8de au Capitaine de vaisseau (Capv) Mike Stefanson, qui a pass\u00e9 deux mois en tant que commandant de la flotte dans ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit comme un r\u00f4le temporaire de \u00ab protecteur. \u00bb Bien que son s\u00e9jour ait \u00e9t\u00e9 de courte dur\u00e9e, la Cam Kurtz a salu\u00e9 son travail de supervision d'une flotte atlantique extr\u00eamement active, avec huit navires r\u00e9cemment en mer simultan\u00e9ment, soutenant plusieurs op\u00e9rations nomm\u00e9es et d'autres initiatives.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Capv Stefanson terminera son mandat de commandant adjoint de la Flotte avant de retourner sur la c\u00f4te Ouest, o\u00f9 il prendra le commandement du Groupe d'instruction de la Marine (GIM) de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le nouveau Cmdre French a \u00e9t\u00e9 promu \u00e0 son grade actuel en juin, apr\u00e8s avoir suivi un programme d'\u00e9tudes strat\u00e9giques et de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 nationale \u00e0 la Facult\u00e9 de guerre navale des \u00c9tats-Unis (United States Naval War College). Il a notamment \u00e9t\u00e9 commandant adjoint de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es (Nord) et commandant du NCSM Regina, dont il a dirig\u00e9 les d\u00e9ploiements dans le cadre des op\u00e9rations Art\u00e9mis et Projection dans l'Indo-Pacifique et le nord de la mer d'Arabie.<\/p>\n

En s'adressant \u00e0 ses pairs et aux membres de la flotte pour la premi\u00e8re fois en tant que nouveau commandant, il a d\u00e9crit les d\u00e9fis attendus du poste en p\u00e9riode de tension mondiale, associ\u00e9s aux d\u00e9fis susmentionn\u00e9s auxquels la MRC et les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC) dans leur ensemble sont actuellement confront\u00e9es.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
