Dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration Distinction \u2013 Rapatriement d\u2019un soldat inconnu de Terre-Neuve \u00e0 Beaumont-Hamel, en France, le 23 mai 2024, des membres du 37e Groupe-brigade du Canada originaires de Terre-Neuve lisent les noms des membres du Newfoundland Regiment qui ont perdu la vie \u00e0 Beaumont-Hamel le 1er juillet 1916. Le 25 mai, une d\u00e9l\u00e9gation de membres des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC) s\u2019est rendue en Normandie, en France, dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration DISTINCTION, pour ramener la d\u00e9pouille d\u2019un militaire de Terre\u2011Neuve qui a p\u00e9ri pendant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale et n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9. La d\u00e9l\u00e9gation canadienne, en compagnie de repr\u00e9sentants du gouvernement de Terre\u2011Neuve\u2011et\u2011Labrador, de la L\u00e9gion royale canadienne et d\u2019Anciens combattants Canada (ACC), a re\u00e7u sa d\u00e9pouille pendant une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie \u00e0 Beaumont-Hamel avant qu\u2019il soit transport\u00e9 par avion \u00e0 St. John\u2019s, o\u00f9 il a \u00e9t\u00e9 transport\u00e9 par procession vers un emplacement non divulgu\u00e9. La d\u00e9pouille demeurera \u00e0 cet endroit jusqu\u2019au d\u00e9voilement de sa tombe en juillet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s le rapatriement du soldat inconnu de Terre-Neuve, il convient de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 l\u2019importance de ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements. Il est appropri\u00e9 d\u2019\u00eatre fier des membres des FAC, qu\u2019ils soient membres de la R\u00e9serve ou de la Force r\u00e9guli\u00e8re, qui ont pris part au rapatriement et qui sont venus d\u2019unit\u00e9s bas\u00e9es \u00e0 Terre\u2011Neuve, dont l\u2019h\u00e9ritage remonte \u00e0 avant l\u2019entr\u00e9e de Terre\u2011Neuve dans le Canada, en 1949. Ils \u00e9taient accompagn\u00e9s de membres d\u2019unit\u00e9s au Canada continental qui partagent leur h\u00e9ritage de service au pays. Nous admirons et respectons les habitants de Terre\u2011Neuve\u2011et\u2011Labrador, qui sont sortis par milliers dans les rues de St. John's, un acte de souvenir et de fiert\u00e9 pour le retour d\u2019un des leurs, tout en le reconnaissant comme un membre des FAC. M\u00eame si, au moment de son d\u00e9c\u00e8s, il \u00e9tait citoyen du Dominion de Terre\u2011Neuve, nous l\u2019embrassons maintenant, comme compatriotes, ainsi que tous ceux et celles qui ont p\u00e9ri en service avant l\u2019entr\u00e9e de leur terre natale dans la conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comment reconnaissons\u2011nous le caract\u00e8re unique de l\u2019histoire de Terre\u2011Neuve\u2011et\u2011Labrador tout en embrassant et en favorisant l\u2019unit\u00e9? En reconnaissant et en appr\u00e9ciant cette communaut\u00e9 et en accueillant ses membres comme des compatriotes et des camarades des FAC.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La prochaine \u00e9tape dans le rapatriement du soldat inconnu de Terre\u2011Neuve sera une chapelle ardente publique \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9difice de la Conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration (Terre\u2011Neuve\u2011et\u2011Labrador) du 28 au 30 juin. Cela sera suivi par sa r\u00e9inhumation le 1er juillet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s l\u2019inhumation au Monument comm\u00e9moratif de guerre de St. John\u2019s le 1er juillet, la Tombe du Soldat inconnu de Terre\u2011Neuve servira de s\u00e9pulture pour les T\u00e9n\u00e9liens, les T\u00e9n\u00e9liennes et les autres qui ont servi le Dominion de Terre\u2011Neuve et qui n\u2019ont aucune s\u00e9pulture connue. Elle sera \u00e9galement un endroit o\u00f9 tous les Canadiens et toutes les Canadiennes peuvent et devraient aller pr\u00e9senter leurs respects, comme la Tombe du Soldat inconnu \u00e0 Ottawa.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alors que les FAC sont tourn\u00e9es vers l\u2019avenir et continuent d\u2019\u00e9voluer, nous devons toujours nous souvenir que notre diversit\u00e9 nous rend forts!
