Les Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique (FMAR(A)) ont officiellement accueilli leur plus r\u00e9cent navire avec une d\u00e9monstration de culture et de communaut\u00e9 le 16 mai, alors que le personnel naval, les constructeurs de navires, les amis, les descendants et d'autres ont soulign\u00e9 la mise en service du navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) William Hall \u00e0 Halifax.<\/p>\n

Le William Hall est le quatri\u00e8me des navires de patrouille extrac\u00f4tiers et arctiques de la classe Harry-DeWolf \u00e0 \u00eatre mis en service actif, apr\u00e8s la mise en service du NCSM Max Bernays sur la c\u00f4te ouest le mois dernier. Selon la Marine royale canadienne (MRC), cette nouvelle classe de navires sera encore mieux \u00e9quip\u00e9e pour faire respecter la souverainet\u00e9 du Canada et relever les d\u00e9fis \u00e0 venir dans le Nord.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Le navire arrive juste au moment o\u00f9 la capacit\u00e9 qu'il offre est si n\u00e9cessaire, ici au pays et \u00e0 l'\u00e9tranger, pour d\u00e9montrer la d\u00e9termination face aux menaces mondiales croissantes et \u00e0 l'instabilit\u00e9 grandissante \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la Cam Jos\u00e9e Kurtz, commandante des FMAR(A) et de la FOIA, tout en soulignant l'homonyme du navire, le ma\u00eetre William Hall, CV.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Le navire qui se trouve derri\u00e8re nous et son \u00e9quipage ne sont qu'une partie de l'important h\u00e9ritage de William Hall - le principal, le marin, le h\u00e9ros d\u00e9cor\u00e9. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

H\u00e9ros de la marine canadienne, Hall a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cor\u00e9 de la Croix de Victoria pour ses actions lors du Soulagement de Lucknow, dans l'Inde sous domination britannique, en 1857. Lorsqu'il a re\u00e7u cette d\u00e9coration, le 28 octobre 1859, Hall est devenu le premier Noir de l'Empire britannique, le premier marin canadien et le premier N\u00e9o-\u00c9cossais \u00e0 obtenir cette prestigieuse m\u00e9daille.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab La mise en service d'un navire repr\u00e9sente non seulement une nouvelle orientation pour la marine canadienne, mais aussi un pas en avant dans la reconnaissance de la communaut\u00e9 africaine de Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse et de toutes les contributions qu'elle a apport\u00e9es \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Russel Grosse, directeur ex\u00e9cutif du Centre culturel noir de Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie s'est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e en pr\u00e9sence de plusieurs descendants de William Hall, dont le parrain du navire, l'ancien surintendant principal de la GRC Craig Gibson, et d'autres membres de la communaut\u00e9 afro-n\u00e9o-\u00e9cossaise. Le groupe Drummers from Home, un collectif qui se concentre sur les rythmes africains et du monde, a donn\u00e9 le coup d'envoi de l'apr\u00e8s-midi, tandis qu'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de purification dirig\u00e9e par des autochtones a \u00e9galement eu lieu.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quelques jours plus tard, le 21 mai, le NCSM William Hall a quitt\u00e9 Halifax pour son premier d\u00e9ploiement en tant que navire commissionn\u00e9. Le navire doit parcourir 15 000 kilom\u00e8tres au cours d'une travers\u00e9e de huit semaines, marqu\u00e9e par la participation \u00e0 l'op\u00e9ration Distinction en France, qui marque le 80e anniversaire du d\u00e9barquement du jour J pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Le voyage comprendra \u00e9galement plusieurs visites de ports europ\u00e9ens et une travers\u00e9e du cercle arctique.<\/p>\n
