\u00a0<\/span>Le contre-amiral\u202fHugh Francis Pullen, en se joignant \u00e0 la Marine royale canadienne\u202f(MRC) en tant que cadet de la Marine en 1920, ne se doutait pas qu\u2019il venait de s\u2019embarquer dans ce qu\u2019on appellerait une vie de patrimoine naval. Reconnu \u00e0 ce jour gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9difice\u202fPullen de la BFC\u202fHalifax Stadacona, le lieu de la formation technique en communications et en radar de l\u2019\u00c9cole navale de l\u2019Atlantique, sa carri\u00e8re l\u2019a men\u00e9 sur un chemin marqu\u00e9 par de nombreuses nominations et de nombreux commandements, ce qui a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 son d\u00e9vouement exceptionnel \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9ducation et \u00e0 son pays.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Son engagement en faveur de l\u2019excellence lui a valu le Poignard \u00e9cossais de l\u2019Amiraut\u00e9 en tant qu\u2019aspirant de marine en 1925, et a \u00e9t\u00e9 ainsi d\u00e9sign\u00e9 \u00ab meilleur cadet global \u00bb. Tout au long de son illustre carri\u00e8re, le Cam\u202fPullen a servi \u00e0 bord de divers navires et a occup\u00e9 des postes cl\u00e9s, dont celui de commandant de la garde royale lors de l\u2019inauguration du M\u00e9morial du Canada \u00e0 la cr\u00eate de Vimy en 1936, ainsi que celui de commandant de la compagnie d\u2019escorte des officiers et matelots de la MRC lors de la pr\u00e9sentation du drapeau du Roi \u00e0 la MRC \u00e0 Victoria en 1939.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Non satisfait de ses exploits navals, le Cam\u202fPullen \u00e9tait \u00e9galement un auteur accompli, et a r\u00e9dig\u00e9 plusieurs ouvrages sur l\u2019histoire navale, dont \u00ab\u202fAtlantic Schooners\u202f\u00bb\u202f(1967) et \u00ab\u202fThe Shannon and the Chesapeake\u202f\u00bb\u202f(1970). Son travail sur \u00ab\u202fThe Pullen Expedition\u202f\u00bb (1979) lui a valu le prestigieux prix du livre John Lyman en 1980, d\u00e9cern\u00e9 par la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nord-am\u00e9ricaine d'histoire oc\u00e9anique, consolidant ainsi sa place en tant qu'\u00e9minent historien des affaires maritimes.<\/p>\n

Au-del\u00e0 de ses activit\u00e9s navales et litt\u00e9raires, le Cam\u202fPullen s\u2019\u00e9tait profond\u00e9ment investi dans les activit\u00e9s philanthropiques et le service communautaire. Il a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant dans la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019organisations telles que celui de cofondateur du Mus\u00e9e maritime du Canada en 1948 (aujourd\u2019hui Mus\u00e9e maritime de l\u2019Atlantique) et a occup\u00e9 des postes de direction dans diverses organisations b\u00e9n\u00e9voles, dont la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 royale de sauvetage du Canada et l\u2019Association canadienne pour la sant\u00e9 mentale.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Son engagement en faveur du service s\u2019est prolong\u00e9 au-del\u00e0 de sa retraite de la Marine en 1960, puisqu\u2019il a continu\u00e9 de contribuer \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 en participant \u00e0 de nombreuses initiatives civiques et caritatives. Le d\u00e9vouement du Cam\u202fPullen \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de son pays et de sa collectivit\u00e9 furent \u00e9galement illustr\u00e9 par son r\u00f4le de chef de file au sein d\u2019organisations telles que l\u2019\u00c9glise anglicane du Canada et par sa promotion de la sensibilisation \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 mentale.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En reconnaissance de ses contributions exceptionnelles, le Cam\u202fPullen a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cor\u00e9 de l\u2019Ordre de l\u2019Empire britannique.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comme l\u2019a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 avec \u00e9loquence le fils du Cam\u202fPullen, Hugh Pullen, en novembre 2008, lors de l\u2019inauguration de l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u2019exposition remis \u00e0 neuf dans le hall d\u2019entr\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00e9difice\u202fPullen\u202f: \u00ab\u202fIl avait deux\u202ffamilles. Il nous avait et il avait la Marine\u202f\u00bb.
