Bien que la soir\u00e9e du 11 avril ait \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration des 100 ans de l'Aviation royale du Canada (ARC) \u00e0 la 12e Escadre Shearwater, le conf\u00e9rencier principal de l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement a \u00e9galement trouv\u00e9 le temps d'honorer le partenaire de longue date de l'ARC dans le domaine de l'aviation maritime, la Marine royale du Canada (MRC).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le d\u00eener de gala du 100e anniversaire de l'ARC a eu lieu un jeudi, jour o\u00f9 le toast naval de la journ\u00e9e est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement port\u00e9 \u00e0 la MRC elle-m\u00eame (Notre Marine), a expliqu\u00e9 la lieutenante-g\u00e9n\u00e9rale Lise Bourgon, en invitant les participants \u00e0 lever leur verre \u00e0 la fois \u00e0 la MRC et \u00e0 l'ARC pour cl\u00f4turer la soir\u00e9e.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Je pense qu'il est tout \u00e0 fait appropri\u00e9, compte tenu de la relation sp\u00e9ciale qui existe entre la Marine et l'ARC, d'honorer les deux \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

La Lg\u00e9n Bourgon, qui est maintenant le commandante int\u00e9rimaire du Commandement du personnel militaire, a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 commandante de l'escadre \u00e0 Shearwater. Elle s'est dite ravie de c\u00e9l\u00e9brer le 100e anniversaire dans le hangar du 423e Escadron d'h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res maritimes, un endroit familier qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 enti\u00e8rement mis en valeur pour l'occasion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Elle a fait une pr\u00e9sentation ax\u00e9e sur l'histoire de l'escadre, depuis ses origines en tant que station a\u00e9ronavale des \u00c9tats-Unis \u00e0 Halifax pendant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, en passant par les nombreux noms et commandements diff\u00e9rents (station de l'ARC \u00e0 Dartmouth, station a\u00e9ronavale royale canadienne \u00e0 Dartmouth, BFC Shearwater, entre autres) qui ont men\u00e9 \u00e0 la 12e Escadre Shearwater telle qu'elle existe aujourd'hui.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Que ce soit en temps de paix ou de guerre, sous diff\u00e9rents commandements et sous diff\u00e9rentes couleurs d'uniforme, Shearwater a toujours apport\u00e9 une contribution majeure au Canada, \u00e0 l'ARC et \u00e0 la MRC \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la Lg\u00e9n Bourgon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous pourrions nous plaindre - et nous le faisons. Nous pouvons nous chamailler - et nous le faisons. Mais quoi qu'il en soit, nous faisons le travail. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Des dignitaires et des repr\u00e9sentants du gouvernement, dont le lieutenant-gouverneur de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, Arthur Leblanc, et le premier ministre Tim Houston, ont \u00e9galement prononc\u00e9 des discours au cours de la soir\u00e9e. Les animateurs Tom et Bob Murphy, de CBC Nova Scotia, et le Stadacona Band, avec son groupe celtique, son quintette de cuivres et son groupe pop \u00ab Boarding Party \u00bb, se sont produits tout au long de la soir\u00e9e.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Colonel (Col) David Holmes, commandant actuel de la 12e Escadre Shearwater, a remerci\u00e9 les nombreuses personnes et organisations qui ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 rendre l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement possible, notamment ses propres \u00e9quipes au sein de l'escadre, les Programmes de soutien du personnel (PSP) d'Halifax, les entreprises commanditaires, les partenaires gouvernementaux et d'autres encore.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Un grand merci \u00e9galement \u00e0 tous les v\u00e9t\u00e9rans, membres, familles et amis des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes qui ont pu \u00eatre avec nous pour cette soir\u00e9e.
