Un morceau d'histoire navale r\u00e9cemment restaur\u00e9 est maintenant expos\u00e9 \u00e0 la base des Forces canadiennes (BFC) Halifax. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Un chalutier de l'Amiraut\u00e9 datant de la Seconde Guerre mondiale a \u00e9t\u00e9 livr\u00e9 dans le hall d'entr\u00e9e du Centre de formation en matelotage consolid\u00e9 (S120) de Stadacona le 8 avril, mettant fin \u00e0 un voyage qui a commenc\u00e9 il y a pr\u00e8s de trois ans.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On pense que ce chalutier est le dernier de son genre - construit pour la marine alli\u00e9e pour les corvettes de la classe Flower pendant la bataille de l'Atlantique. Il \u00e9tait auparavant sous la garde du Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust \u00e0 Portsmouth, en Angleterre, qui a recommand\u00e9 que le bateau soit d\u00e9plac\u00e9 \u00e0 Halifax pour \u00eatre proche de la derni\u00e8re Corvette restante, le NCSM Sackville.<\/p>\n

La travers\u00e9e de l'Atlantique a eu lieu en 2021, le NCSM Summerside embarquant le bateau \u00e0 Portsmouth apr\u00e8s la fin des exercices de l'OTAN en mer Baltique, puis le remettant au Naval Museum of Halifax peu de temps apr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n

Le navire historique \u00e9tait cependant en mauvais \u00e9tat, avec une forte d\u00e9t\u00e9rioration du c\u00f4t\u00e9 tribord. Le mus\u00e9e a fait appel au Big Pond Boat Shop de Mahone Bay et \u00e0 l'\u00e9quipe familiale de constructeurs de bateaux Pat, Keith et Dayna Nelder pour redonner vie au chalutier, dont la coque a \u00e9t\u00e9 enti\u00e8rement restaur\u00e9e et la peinture refaite \u00e0 neuf. Ils \u00e9taient bien plac\u00e9s pour ce travail, puisqu'ils ont construit un nouveau baleinier \u00e0 partir de z\u00e9ro pour le NCSM Sackville en 2022.<\/p>\n

L'\u00e9quipe de Big Pond a pris en charge le bateau \u00e0 l'automne dernier.
