Le navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) Montr\u00e9al a r\u00e9cemment quitt\u00e9 son port d'attache de Halifax pour traverser l'Atlantique, le Pacifique et l'oc\u00e9an Indien dans le cadre d'un d\u00e9ploiement de six mois dans la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique, dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration Horizon.<\/p>\n

L'objectif de la mission est de renforcer la pr\u00e9sence militaire du Canada dans la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique. Pendant son d\u00e9ploiement, le NCSM Montr\u00e9al participera \u00e0 des exercices navals internationaux avec des alli\u00e9s et des partenaires r\u00e9gionaux.<\/p>\n

Le NCSM Montr\u00e9al s'est rendu dans la r\u00e9gion en 2023 dans le cadre de l'Op Projection et y retourne maintenant, avec un \u00e9quipage et une \u00e9quipe de commandement renouvel\u00e9s, en tant que premier navire \u00e0 prendre part \u00e0 l'Op Horizon, une mission qui se concentre uniquement sur la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Cela signifie beaucoup, cela indique que le Canada accorde une grande importance \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique \u00bb, d\u00e9clare le commandant du Montr\u00e9al, le capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Travis Bain.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Le fait que le Canada y envoie plus r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement des navires et qu'il y accroisse sa pr\u00e9sence montre qu'il se pr\u00e9occupe de cette r\u00e9gion et qu'il veut d\u00e9montrer qu'il est un partenaire fiable qui peut participer aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de ses alli\u00e9s. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Pendant son d\u00e9ploiement, le Capf Bain indique que le Montr\u00e9al se joindra aux navires des alli\u00e9s de l'OTAN et des partenaires r\u00e9gionaux, le Japon, la Cor\u00e9e et les Philippines, pour des exercices conjoints visant \u00e0 accro\u00eetre l'efficacit\u00e9 de la Marine royale du Canada (MRC) dans la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n

Selon le capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Bain, l'envoi d'un navire de la flotte de l'Atlantique dans la r\u00e9gion indo-pacifique est un aspect important des efforts d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s par le Canada pour accro\u00eetre sa pr\u00e9sence dans la r\u00e9gion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab C'est une d\u00e9monstration que le Canada est une nation capable de se projeter de la c\u00f4te est ou de la c\u00f4te ouest vers n'importe quel endroit du monde. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Les pr\u00e9paratifs en vue du d\u00e9part et de la mission \u00e9taient en cours depuis des mois, avec de nombreux entra\u00eenements et essais en mer depuis que le NCSM Montr\u00e9al a chang\u00e9 d'\u00e9quipage en octobre dernier. Le Capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Bain d\u00e9crit le processus de pr\u00e9paration comme \u00ab probablement l'un des programmes les plus charg\u00e9s que j'aie jamais men\u00e9s. \u00bb<\/p>\n

L'enseigne de vaisseau de premi\u00e8re classe Aidan Nicol, le nouvel officier de plong\u00e9e du Montr\u00e9al, prend la mer pour son premier d\u00e9ploiement d'envergure. Il s'est assur\u00e9 que l'\u00e9quipe de plong\u00e9e du navire \u00e9tait pr\u00eate pour la mission tout en compl\u00e9tant ses propres programmes de formation. Il affirme qu'il n'avait aucune id\u00e9e pr\u00e9con\u00e7ue de ce que seraient les pr\u00e9paratifs en vue du d\u00e9ploiement.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Je ne savais pas \u00e0 quoi m'attendre, alors je suis arriv\u00e9 avec l'esprit ouvert. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

L'Ens 1 Nicol a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'il partageait l'avis du Cdr Bain sur le rythme rapide des travaux de pr\u00e9paration du navire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous avons \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s occup\u00e9s, tr\u00e8s occup\u00e9s. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Maintenant que le d\u00e9part est derri\u00e8re lui, l'Ens 1 Nicol est impatient de naviguer et d'explorer les ports que le Montr\u00e9al visitera au cours des prochains mois.<\/p>\n

Sa camarade de bord, la matelot de 1re classe (S1) Ran Bryshun, est elle aussi impatiente de d\u00e9couvrir de nouveaux endroits. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 affect\u00e9e \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al l'automne dernier et a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'elle \u00e9tait \u00e0 la fois excit\u00e9e et anxieuse de prendre la mer. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e il y a deux ans avec le NCSM Goose Bay et vit maintenant ses premi\u00e8res exp\u00e9riences \u00e0 bord d'une fr\u00e9gate de classe Halifax.<\/p>\n

La Mat 1 Bryshun a ajout\u00e9 que l'int\u00e9gration avec ses nouveaux camarades de bord a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 un processus positif.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Il y a beaucoup de femmes sur ce navire ; c'est le plus grand nombre de femmes avec lesquelles j'ai navigu\u00e9 et nous avons toutes \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s le m\u00eame \u00e2ge, alors nous sommes devenues de tr\u00e8s bonnes amies. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Les marins \u00e0 bord du NCSM Montr\u00e9al seront accompagn\u00e9s d'un d\u00e9tachement a\u00e9rien et d'un h\u00e9licopt\u00e8re CH-148 Cyclone, ce qui portera \u00e0 247 le nombre total de membres d'\u00e9quipage pour le d\u00e9ploiement.
