Le drapeau panafricain a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 hiss\u00e9 lors de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie des couleurs matinales au QG de la BFC Halifax le 21 mars. Ce drapeau a \u00e9t\u00e9 choisi pour souligner le th\u00e8me de la JIEDR de cette ann\u00e9e : Une d\u00e9cennie de reconnaissance, de justice et de d\u00e9veloppement : mise en \u0153uvre de la D\u00e9cennie internationale des personnes d\u2019ascendance africaine. Bien que l\u2019histoire de la JIEDR et le th\u00e8me de cette ann\u00e9e soient tous deux ax\u00e9s sur les personnes d\u2019ascendance africaine, nous reconnaissons que la discrimination raciale a des r\u00e9percussions sur de nombreuses personnes, communaut\u00e9s et soci\u00e9t\u00e9s. Les pan\u00e9listes r\u00e9pondent aux questions pendant la partie discussion de la table ronde de la Journ\u00e9e internationale pour l'\u00e9limination de la discrimination raciale \u00e0 la tour Juno le 21 mars. L\u2019AVIATEUR GREGORY COLE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

En l'honneur de la Journ\u00e9e internationale pour l'\u00e9limination de la discrimination raciale (JIEDR), la base des Forces canadiennes (BFC) Halifax a accueilli le 21 mars une table ronde sur le th\u00e8me des droits de l'homme. L'\u00e9v\u00e9nement \u00e9tait organis\u00e9 par le Groupe consultatif des minorit\u00e9s visibles de la D\u00e9fense (GCMVD).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique \/ Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique Chef d'\u00e9tat-major la Capitaine de vaisseau (Capv) Beth Vallis a ouvert la conf\u00e9rence en parlant de l'importance de cette journ\u00e9e et des efforts continus des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC), et de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, pour lutter contre le racisme et la discrimination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous reconnaissons l'impact de la discrimination raciale sur les individus, les communaut\u00e9s et les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s racialis\u00e9s, tout en appelant les individus et les organisations \u00e0 travailler pour \u00e9liminer toutes les formes de discrimination raciale, d'injustice, de racisme syst\u00e9mique et de haine. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Les pan\u00e9listes \u00e9taient la Dr Leah Sarson de l'universit\u00e9 Dalhousie, la Dr Madhuparna Gupta de l'universit\u00e9 Saint Mary's, l'avocate Megan Ross de Path Legal et Janelle Brooks, cofondatrice de POC Arch, une organisation qui se consacre \u00e0 la mise en valeur des r\u00e9alisations architecturales des personnes de couleur. La discussion a port\u00e9 sur les droits de l'homme en relation avec le racisme et sur les moyens d'apporter des changements positifs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00ab J'ai voulu r\u00e9unir aujourd'hui ces universitaires praticiens pour parler de la mani\u00e8re dont le changement se produit et de la fa\u00e7on dont nous envisageons la relation entre le droit et la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 lorsque nous pensons au changement culturel \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Sarson en pr\u00e9sentant le groupe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Les intervenants se sont exprim\u00e9s \u00e0 tour de r\u00f4le sur une s\u00e9rie de questions relatives aux droits de l'homme, au droit et \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9. La plupart des discussions ont port\u00e9 sur le racisme institutionnel et sur les limites des lois et des politiques dans la cr\u00e9ation de changements soci\u00e9taux.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Cette journ\u00e9e est le moment id\u00e9al pour examiner les raisons pour lesquelles les changements institutionnels n'ont pas entra\u00een\u00e9 les changements sociaux que nous esp\u00e9rions \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Ross.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le panel a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 pour les citoyens d'examiner les institutions au sein desquelles ils travaillent et de r\u00e9examiner leurs propres croyances.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous vivons tous dans un syst\u00e8me qui a des points de vue vraiment probl\u00e9matiques et nous avons adopt\u00e9 certains d'entre eux sans le savoir \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Ross.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Il est donc de notre devoir \u00e0 tous d'examiner activement la fa\u00e7on dont nous voyons la race dans notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et de travailler activement en nous-m\u00eames pour aborder ces id\u00e9es que nous avons peut-\u00eatre adopt\u00e9es sans nous en rendre compte. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Le panel s'est \u00e9galement pench\u00e9 sur plusieurs sujets d'actualit\u00e9 li\u00e9s aux droits de l'homme, notamment les migrations de masse, les mouvements politiques r\u00e9actionnaires et la perte d'espaces communautaires.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Les pan\u00e9listes ont \u00e9galement r\u00e9pondu aux questions du public. Plusieurs membres du personnel de la FAC ont profit\u00e9 de l'occasion pour faire part de leurs sentiments et de leurs exp\u00e9riences en mati\u00e8re de racisme et ont demand\u00e9 l'avis des membres du panel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dans ses remarques finales, la Capv Vallis a parl\u00e9 de la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 pour les FAC de poursuivre et d'am\u00e9liorer leur travail d'\u00e9limination du racisme au niveau institutionnel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
