Le 7 novembre 2023, le service des incendies de la BFC Halifax a accueilli 14 \u00e9l\u00e8ves du secondaire et quatre sp\u00e9cialistes du soutien aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves (SSE) du Centre r\u00e9gional de services d\u2019enseignement de la vall\u00e9e d\u2019Annapolis pour une visite d\u2019exploration des carri\u00e8res.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le r\u00f4le principal des SSE est d\u2019apporter un soutien aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves d\u2019origine africaine et \u00e0 leurs proches, tandis que le programme SSE vise, entre autres, \u00e0 promouvoir la diversit\u00e9 culturelle et un milieu scolaire et d\u2019apprentissage accueillant pour les \u00e9l\u00e8ves. Les visites d\u2019exploration des carri\u00e8res font partie des activit\u00e9s du programme qui ont pour but d\u2019aider les \u00e9l\u00e8ves \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer ce qu\u2019ils veulent faire apr\u00e8s l\u2019obtention de leur dipl\u00f4me.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tara Davidson, la SSE qui a organis\u00e9 la visite, a expliqu\u00e9 que \u00ab ces visites \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s utiles, car elles pouvaient ouvrir les yeux des \u00e9l\u00e8ves. Les visites d\u2019exploration des carri\u00e8res montrent aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves les options qui s\u2019offrent \u00e0 eux. \u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours de la visite au service des incendies de la BFC Halifax, huit pompiers de service ont anim\u00e9 un groupe de discussion pendant lequel ils ont expliqu\u00e9 les conditions \u00e0 remplir pour devenir pompier, les exigences physiques, la solde et les avantages sociaux. Ils ont \u00e9galement pr\u00e9vu diverses s\u00e9ances pratiques, notamment sur la d\u00e9sincarc\u00e9ration des v\u00e9hicules, les espaces clos, l\u2019utilisation des extincteurs d\u2019incendie et le maniement des boyaux \u00e0 incendie, ainsi qu\u2019une visite de la caserne.<\/span><\/p>\n

Randell Davidson, chef principal de peloton, a affirm\u00e9 qu\u2019il avait \u00ab pris plaisir \u00e0 passer la journ\u00e9e avec les jeunes, \u00e0 leur montrer [son] m\u00e9tier et \u00e0 leur expliquer les possibilit\u00e9s qui leur \u00e9taient offertes \u00bb pr\u00e9cisant que les \u00e9l\u00e8ves avaient particuli\u00e8rement aim\u00e9 utiliser les m\u00e2choires pour la d\u00e9sincarc\u00e9ration de v\u00e9hicules et les boyaux \u00e0 incendie.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le service des incendies a organis\u00e9 d\u2019autres activit\u00e9s avec les SSE, ainsi que la journ\u00e9e \u00ab Invitons nos jeunes au travail \u00bb et des visites dans le cadre du programme de sensibilisation de la Marine dans les \u00e9coles secondaires. Le chef de peloton Davidson esp\u00e8re que son \u00e9quipe pourra faire encore plus \u00e0 l\u2019avenir. \u00ab Sous r\u00e9serve du consentement des dirigeants, le service des incendies organisera certainement d\u2019autres activit\u00e9s de ce type. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n
