Le plus r\u00e9cent navire de patrouille extrac\u00f4tier et de l'arctique (NPEA) de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC) a quitt\u00e9 Halifax pour sa premi\u00e8re s\u00e9rie d'essais en mer, au moment m\u00eame o\u00f9 la province de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse s'appr\u00eate \u00e0 rendre hommage \u00e0 son homonyme.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 (NCSM) William Hall a quitt\u00e9 Halifax le 12 f\u00e9vrier pour un voyage qui le m\u00e8nera d'abord \u00e0 Boston pour une visite du port, puis dans les eaux de Terre-Neuve pour des essais et des entra\u00eenements par temps froid. Le William Hall a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement livr\u00e9 \u00e0 la MRC par le constructeur Irving Shipbuilding en septembre 2023.<\/p>\n

Pour les membres de l'\u00e9quipage du navire, dont certains font partie de l'unit\u00e9 depuis qu'elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 mise sur pied, ce moment repr\u00e9sente l'aboutissement de nombreux mois de travail et de pr\u00e9paration.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab J'ai eu l'occasion de voir l'\u00e9quipage grandir et s'unir - de cinq d'entre nous dans le bureau \u00e0 terre \u00e0 un \u00e9quipage complet pr\u00eat \u00e0 partir en mer. C'est une exp\u00e9rience inoubliable \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la matelot-chef Sarah MacKenzie.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Il y a un r\u00e9el sentiment de fiert\u00e9 \u00e0 faire partie de l'\u00e9quipage de mise en service et \u00e0 honorer l'h\u00e9ritage de William Hall. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Cet h\u00e9ritage est \u00e9galement c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 ce mois-ci, puisque William Hall lui-m\u00eame a \u00e9t\u00e9 choisi pour \u00eatre la personne honor\u00e9e en 2024 lors de la Journ\u00e9e du patrimoine de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse.<\/span><\/p>\n

N\u00e9 \u00e0 Horton, en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, William Hall est le fils de parents anciennement esclaves. Il a servi dans la Marine royale de 1852 \u00e0 1876 et a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier Noir et le premier N\u00e9o-\u00c9cossais \u00e0 recevoir la Croix de Victoria pour ses actions et sa bravoure sous le feu de l'ennemi lors du Secours de Lucknow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Outre la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration de la Journ\u00e9e du patrimoine de William Hall au Mus\u00e9e naval d'Halifax le 19 f\u00e9vrier, une journ\u00e9e communautaire consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 William Hall a \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9e au Centre culturel noir de Cherry Brook, et les \u00e9l\u00e8ves du premier cycle du secondaire de toute la province ont \u00e9t\u00e9 initi\u00e9s \u00e0 un programme d'enseignement virtuel ax\u00e9 sur la vie de William Hall.<\/span><\/p>\n

L'\u00e9quipage du navire s'est efforc\u00e9 de nouer des liens avec des membres de la communaut\u00e9 noire ainsi qu'avec des historiens, des chercheurs et d'autres personnes de la communaut\u00e9 noire afin d'explorer les meilleurs moyens de renforcer le lien entre le William Hall, le navire, et William Hall, l'homme.<\/p>\n

Le PM1 Brent Williamson, qui est \u00e0 la fois le premier capitaine d'armes du navire et son premier capitaine d'armes noir, a d\u00e9crit le sentiment \"po\u00e9tique\" qu'il \u00e9prouve en jouant ce r\u00f4le \u00e0 bord d'un navire li\u00e9 \u00e0 l'histoire d'un marin noir h\u00e9ro\u00efque.<\/span><\/p>\n

L'\u00e9quipe de commandement a regrett\u00e9 que le navire ne soit pas \u00e0 Halifax pendant ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements importants de la Journ\u00e9e du patrimoine, mais elle a soulign\u00e9 que ce travail n\u00e9cessaire en mer permettra au navire d'\u00eatre pleinement int\u00e9gr\u00e9 \u00e0 la flotte et de partager l'histoire du William Hall dans les villes et les ports du monde entier.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
