Le 20 janvier 2024, des membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale ont uni leurs forces dans le cadre d\u2019une activit\u00e9 de la Journ\u00e9e d\u2019entraide de Centraide Halifax afin d\u2019appuyer le nouveau programme de logement avec services de soutien pour les femmes et les personnes de diverses identit\u00e9s de genre du YWCA d\u2019Halifax.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En tant que partenaire de longue date de Centraide Halifax, YWCA d\u2019Halifax se r\u00e9jouit de la participation \u00e0 des activit\u00e9s telles que les Journ\u00e9es d\u2019entraide, au cours desquelles des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles de la communaut\u00e9 sont jumel\u00e9s \u00e0 des organismes de bienfaisance qui cherchent de l\u2019aide. Centraide Halifax collabore r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement avec la communaut\u00e9 locale de la D\u00e9fense pour soutenir ces initiatives, en associant des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense \u00e0 des projets pratiques dans la communaut\u00e9 dans le cadre de la Campagne de charit\u00e9 en milieu de travail de la D\u00e9fense nationale de la r\u00e9gion d\u2019Halifax. Les partenariats lors de ces occasions des Journ\u00e9es d\u2019entraide aident Centraide Halifax \u00e0 lutter contre la pauvret\u00e9, les probl\u00e8mes de logement et l\u2019itin\u00e9rance, ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 cr\u00e9er des communaut\u00e9s plus inclusives dans l\u2019ensemble de la MRH.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lors de la Journ\u00e9e d\u2019entraide du 20 janvier, des membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense locale se sont rendus \u00e0 Old Waverley Inn, au centre-ville d\u2019Halifax, un b\u00e2timent qui deviendra bient\u00f4t la demeure de 32 femmes et personnes de diverses identit\u00e9s de genre. Sur place, et en coordination avec le personnel du YWCA d\u2019Halifax, les b\u00e9n\u00e9voles ont enlev\u00e9 les meubles des chambres \u00e0 deux lits et d\u00e9termin\u00e9 les \u00e9l\u00e9ments de chaque chambre afin de les transformer en chambres \u00e0 un lit. On esp\u00e9rait que l\u2019\u00e9quipe terminerait le premier et le deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9tage, mais gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un travail acharn\u00e9, elle a pu terminer les trois \u00e9tages, enlever tous les accessoires muraux et d\u00e9terminer les meubles dans chaque couloir, entr\u00e9e principale et vestibule!<\/span>!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ce programme de logement avec services de soutien est l\u2019un des nombreux programmes et initiatives administr\u00e9s par YWCA d\u2019Halifax, une organisation dont la mission est d\u2019\u00e9tablir la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique, de promouvoir le bien-\u00eatre et de cr\u00e9er des occasions pour toutes les femmes, les filles, les personnes bispirituelles et les personnes ayant diverses identit\u00e9s de genre. Le YWCA d\u2019Halifax aura cette ann\u00e9e son 150e anniversaire. Tout au long de sa longue existence, cette organisation a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9termin\u00e9e \u00e0 aider les femmes et les personnes ayant diverses identit\u00e9s de genre, car ces populations sont touch\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re disproportionn\u00e9e par l\u2019itin\u00e9rance. Le YWCA offre donc un soutien important \u00e0 ceux qui font face \u00e0 de multiples obstacles qui peuvent les emp\u00eacher de trouver un endroit o\u00f9 vivre. Le YWCA est conscient de l\u2019importance d\u2019offrir stabilit\u00e9 et soutien \u00e0 ses r\u00e9sidents, c\u2019est pourquoi ce nouveau centre d\u2019h\u00e9bergement avec services de soutien offrira une aide accessible 24 heures sur 24 et 7 jours sur 7.<\/p>\n

Une fois ouvert, ce centre d\u2019h\u00e9bergement avec services de soutien sera en place pendant cinq ans, car le propri\u00e9taire de l\u2019immeuble, Grafton Developments, a g\u00e9n\u00e9reusement offert de retarder ses plans d\u2019am\u00e9nagement. Bien que cela signifie que le YWCA d\u2019Halifax devra \u00e9laborer un plan \u00e0 plus long terme, cela ne veut pas dire que les services de soutien dispara\u00eetront lorsque la p\u00e9riode de cinq ans sera \u00e9coul\u00e9e.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Les gens peuvent rester dans le programme aussi longtemps qu\u2019ils en ont besoin et qu\u2019ils le souhaitent. Nous ne renverrons personne \u00e0 l\u2019itin\u00e9rance, a expliqu\u00e9 Danielle Hodges, directrice principale des programmes du YWCA d\u2019Halifax. S\u2019ils ne peuvent pas rester dans la maison, ils seront transf\u00e9r\u00e9s dans un autre programme ou une autre maison. Nous esp\u00e9rons qu\u2019avec de la stabilit\u00e9 et du soutien, le cycle pourra \u00eatre bris\u00e9. \u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comme pour tout projet de cette ampleur, il y a eu de nombreux participants. Le YWCA a d\u00e9termin\u00e9 des groupes cl\u00e9s qui ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la r\u00e9alisation du projet, y compris le minist\u00e8re des Services communautaires, qui a abord\u00e9 le YWCA au sujet de Waverley Inn pour voir s\u2019il ferait un bon centre d\u2019h\u00e9bergement avec services de soutien; Grafton Developments qui a fait don de Waverley Inn et de tous les \u00e9l\u00e9ments dans le b\u00e2timent, et qui a retard\u00e9 ses plans d\u2019am\u00e9nagement; et la province de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019une aide incroyable tout au long du processus. Ils ont \u00e9galement soulign\u00e9 la relation de longue date avec Centraide Halifax et le minist\u00e8re de la D\u00e9fense nationale pour leur aide en vue de trouver des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles pour le projet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
